My VB solutions isn't stored nor referencing anything on a mapped drive. Running VS 2005 SP 1.
Positive I don't have anything dumb like spyware, etc going on as well. System resources show I have 1.2 gig of free memory. I can open another .Net solution at the same time, and the second solution responds in a timely manner. Not running any add-ins. Rebooted. All other apps run as expected.
Did some Google searches. Found people with similar complaints. If there is a very large number of checkpoints, that could slow performance (I don't have any). Found this MS article and doesn't apply (using VB and already have SP1 installed). Installed hotfix anyways, no diff.
Totally baffled at what the heck is going on. Guess I'll try splitting the source out into multiple class files to see if that helps.

Yeah, but I didn't say anything about the project doing so. I asked if youre MACHINE was. A mapped drive that suddenly isn't available anymore can make your machine hang for a bit, with no apparent cause.
Does the problem occur at all if your doing other things outside of Visual Studio?

Sorry Dave, I misconstrued what you were saying in your previous post. Mapped drive is working correctly, or at least appears to be. I can access files without delay.
I restarted again after installing the hotfix listed above and everything appears to be working much faster with this particular solution. The hotfix was supposed to be in SP 1, so I'm not sure why Visual studio is working so much faster now with this solution.
The speed isn't blistering, but it's much more tolerable now.

Hmm... I only asked, because the very same thing happened to me yesterday. I found out that the network guys were screwing with a couple of switches between me and the 10 servers I normally attach to.

Hi all
I am kind of stuck with a strange issue.Can anyone help me.
Mine is a VB 6.0 to VB.net 2005 migration.Crystal reports 7.0 is being used in VB 6.0.I am now using .net crystal engine.I have written .net code that manipulates .rpt(this rpt is the same old 7.0 one) file at runtime and generates report.The code is working fine and report is getting generated.
I now compared the report generated from VB 6.0 and .net.Here are the differences.
1.For money field from SQL database a '$'sign is attached to each value.
2.In VB 6.0 a decimal value 2.9 becomes 3.0,but in .net it is displayed as 2.9 itself.
To correct the same i went to .net 2005 crystal report editor-Design-Default Settings and changed the field format options of currecy and number(removing $ sign and decimal roundoff setting).
But whatever i do, in final report the value doesnt get reflected.Then i wrote a runtime code to change the format.But again no use.
But to surprise when i went to control panel and removed $ sign from system regional settings,the $ value was removed from currency.What about decimal roundoff then.
What am i missing.Why is the setting that i do in crystal reports .net editor not getting reflected.Please help.

Hello,
I have the following problem. I have a VB .net 2008 application that is getting data from a SQL 2005 server that is on a Small Business Server 2003 R2 premium Server.
The application is working fine but sometimes the Green Circle of Vista is coming up and the system is locked for sometimes 10 minutes. After the green Vista circle is gone the programm is still working without any problem.
There is vista Business with SP1 installed.
I think that the application wants to get data from the server and on some moments there is the green waiting circle from vista.
Does anyone has a idea what can be wrong.
I am using a 100 mbit network to access the server. Other Pc on that moment that uses the network for other applications such as word,... has no problem accessing the server.
Could it be a Vista problem ?
The problem is that the application is used for a Point of sale solution , so when there is a customer waiting and suddenly the green circle is there for 10 minutes nothing can be sold on that moment wich is not a good situation.

This may or may not be a problem in the application. If this happens, use system tools (task manager, event log, performance monitor etc) to observe what's going on in the system. For example:
- most virus scanners halt the system when new virus information is applied or the software is being upgraded.
- virus filters for emails can do the same
- Windows update can freeze the system momentarily
- network card problems can freeze the app if the connection is lost and the re-estableshed and so on
First, have a look to the event log (both system and application), if you see anything suspicious.
The need to optimize rises from a bad design.

Thanks for answering my question.
On this PC , the connection to internet is not set and it is only used for Point of Sale. So there is no virusscanner installed on this machine.
Windows update is also not set to automatic.
There are some days that the problem is not there so i dont think that it is the programm after waiting for a while sometimes 10 or 15 min the green circle is gone and everything is working fine again.So i think the programm is ok.
Maybe the network that the connection to the SQL Server is lost ....

You can set your window position so it obscures the taskbar. You can't stop the user from using the task bar, nor should you want to.

I am just want to use Auto Hide Taskbar feature of the taskbar.
Rather, my form Size is sufficiant to show the full screen mode.
If my taskbar is hide then my application shows full screen but If my taskbar is shows then my application is not in fool screen mode.

You cannot, and should not, disable the TaskBar.

The only way to hide the Task Bar is to kill the Explorer process, but that's not acceptable to the user either.

That doesn't disable the TaskBar, it just hides the window temporarily. It's still not a good idea to do.

I guess I don't truly understand the purpose of the request.
1. If pdnet has the app in Kiosk mode, why are you worrying about the taskbar - you can't see it anyways?
2. Don't know about you, but I'd be pissed if I ran an app and it started changing my theme/settings in Windows without me allowing it to do so.
All around bad idea to it.

Sometimes project specifications is to run it full screen so that the taskbar isnt visible. From what I gathered in his post, he doesn't want to disable it, just wants the same functionality as 'Autohide the taskbar' option.
I'm kind of curious as to this myself.

The code I posted earlier in this thread accomplishes that. The form covers the task bar, just like VS if you run it in full screen mode without changing the settings or killing the task bar itself.
