So, I started running through my ASP.NET web site with IE 8.0 looking for the inevitable issues that would crop up that did not exist in the previous version. I was running IE8 on a clean client and had my development website and my live website running in separate tabs. To my bewilderment, the site running on my development machine looked totally different than the site running on my webserver. In fact on my dev machine the web site looked the same as it did in IE7. I was stumped...after spending a hour or so checking files and versions and etc. I found this little gem.
IE 8.0 has a feature called Compatibility Mode which works great as it renders outdate markup to look as it did in IE 7.0. The cute little trick here is that under Tool>Compatibility View Settings, there is an option...
Display intranet sites in Compatibility View
...which in MS's infinite wisdom is checked by default and hides the Comatibility view icon on the address bar.
So, now you know and you can save yourself from the wasted time I just enjoyed.
Regards,
Jeff

How do I do that?
thanks

hi
i think that you can use z-index property of CSS
for example:
<div style="z-index:-10">
the tag that has lower z-index is behind the others.
I hope it is useful.

Pick up a good book on the subject. There are plenty of them out there.

Really, it's not that big of a switch with .NET. I went from Winforms and VB.NET to Web Apps with C# without any real strain.

Well, it's pretty much the same, still totally different.
You are moving from a stateful client application to a stateless client-server application. That's the part that is totally different.
To make it easier for you, the web controls that you can use in a web application can to some extent emulate the statefulness that you are used to. However, this always comes with a cost, usually in the form of a larger payload that the browser has to download for every page.
Despite everything, the person most likely to be fooling you next is yourself.

Hi friends i am having a master page
and a child page
I want to search a control in the child page named "a1"
for this i have written code as
Button b = (Button)Page.FindControl("a" + z.ToString());
as well as
Button b = (Button)this.FindControl("a" + z.ToString());
I have tried this in a separate page its working there but not here
Please tell me where i am going wrong
If You win You need not Explain............
But If You Loose You Should not be there to Explain......

Check the value of z. Is it 1 always?

hmmm
I have solved it by keeping controls in a div named "Box" and keeping runat="server"
I tried to search in the div
Everything is correct
I dont know why but directly searching is giving error
If You win You need not Explain............
But If You Loose You Should not be there to Explain......

The "FindControl" method is not recursive, and probably your button is not hosted on the page itself rather is a child/child/child...child control of another one.

Hi ,
I have a form in which I need to hilight steps as user continues. I need to design these steps as arrows. Probably I need to put a table and and show arrows but i dont know how to do it.
Design should be..
-----\\-----\\-----\
step1 \\step2\\step3\
-----//-----//-----/
You may think it as email registration process.. as user steps out of step1 and goes to step2 , step1
deactivates and step 2 hilights
I can put a table here but how to show the arrow like background with different colour for the steps.. how should i design my css..
I am confused because table has rectangular cells.. arrows are overlapping some area of other (pointed portions)..i dont want much gap there.. between the arrows..
any tip will help.
regards
Vijay

You can use an HTML table with Tabs with Step1, Step2 & Step3. While loading the page, disable Step2 & Step 3 tabs. Once the user enters the required entries in Tab1 and validates(if any), you can enable and proceed to next tabs. There may be other ways to do it , but I think this is pretty simple
