I’m developing an windows application using vb.net 2003 as front end& ms access 2003 as backend.
I have a column to store date(today’s date).datatype I’m using is text.i.e. using front end I wil add some new records to database,
At that moment “today’s” date wil be stored in the corresponding column as text datatype.
Then in frontend I need to search the database for records between 2 date ranges and display in a datagrid.
To select date ranges I’m using 2 date time picker controls with short date format.
The Resultant recors will not be 100% accurate if I select date as single digit date(i.e. below 9 to 1).
If I select dates 10 & above 10 (2 digit date) , the resultant records wil be accurate.
Pleass suggest me the solution.Thanks in advance.

 I am not sure, whether I got that right, but you are saving the date in text-format? Why? Use datetime-format. Then there will be no problems when searching your database's entries by date.

As someone suggested, you should use the datetime type to store the date. But, you could just format the single digit to be two digits, i.e. 9 becomes 09.

Is it possible to store an array inside an array?
Like for example I have these logs below
array1(0)
2007-05-17 04:25:30 Receive
2007-05-17 04:25:31 Sent
2007-05-17 04:25:31 Sent
2007-05-17 04:25:34 DLR
array1(1)
2007-05-17 04:32:18 Receive
2007-05-17 04:32:19 Sent
2007-05-17 04:32:19 Sent
array1(2)
2007-05-17 04:37:03 Receive
2007-05-17 04:37:04 Sent
2007-05-17 04:37:04 Sent
2007-05-17 04:37:04 Sent
Then for each array1 element I can create another array (array2) to store each line separately for "Received", "Sent" and "DLR". So I was thinking it would look something like array1(0(array2(0)).

Not quite. An array is an object, so it doesn't have a name in itself. What you name is the reference variable that holds a reference to the array.
So, you don't name the arrays that you store in the array. You only have a name for the variable referencing the outer array:
Dim array1(3)() As String
array1(0) = new String() { "Receive", "Sent", "Sent", "DLR" }
array1(1) = new String() { "Receive", "Sent", "Sent" }
array1(2) = new String() { "Receive", "Sent", "Sent", "Sent" }
You can create a string array to store in the array. You would have a reference variable for that array too, but you still only store the reference to the string array in the outer array:
Dim x(1) As String
x(0) = "Receive"
x(1) = "Sent"
array1(3) = x 'Puts the reference in the outer array
To use the arrays you only use the single variable name that you have. The value of the expression array1(0) is a string array, so you just stack another index after that expression to access a string:
array1(0)(1)

Aha! So i just have to add the element number of the inner array when i call upon the outer array. Many thanks Sir! Sorry about this but I forgot to mention I'm using vb6. Is this still applicable or is this already for .NET?

It should work just fine in VB6, but the syntax isn't exactly the same. It's called a jagged array if you want to look for code examples.

Great! That just changed my views.
Got the code and it looks something like this:
Dim aTest(1 To 2) As Variant
Dim bTest(1 To 1) As Variant
aTest(1) = 1
aTest(2) = 2
bTest(1) = aTest
MsgBox bTest(1)(1)
MsgBox bTest(1)(2)
...for future reference.  Thanks again for the help, not to mention the enlightenment

for eg

in one command can we make

Nope. You're going to have to write your own mdethod to do it. I suggest looking into the StringBuilder class to accomplish this.

I know how to loop through the string and get it done but i was just asking if any of you who knows the better and short way .
Because I was wondering if there would be a function like:
string.reverse
by .net or any other similar functions.
I was just trying to learn some new thing.

Well, only if you create a method like ReverseString, but you'll still have to code the actual algorithm to reverse the string.

I can convert the string into
chararray() and then do the Array.reverse()

Can anyone tell me why I get this error. This happens when I try to save a backup to a folder other than the default SQL backup folder...
"System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: Cannot open backup device 'C:\Program Files\mycompany\mytool\backups\myDB 922008111739.bak'. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.)."

SQL Server doesnt have Permissions to that folder.

It's simple. The person running the code doesn't have write permissions to that folder.
Normal users don't normally have write permissions to anything under Program Files.

I can write the backups to any folder on my machine as long as I am in VS.
I built an install and running the installer and running the app afterwards (as the administrator) on the same machine I can only write to the backup folder of SQL. It by default installed the program into the Program Folder. Which I think according to MS rules is where it should be.
This machine is the admin machine I have full rights to everthing.
Any other thoughts?

Like Bassam said, the SQL Server or Agent service doesn't have write permissions to that folder.
I thought you were writing the backup file yourself. My mistake. Your code is telling SQL Server to run the backup for you. It doesn't have the appropriate permissions. You'd normally have a folder (not under Program Files) dedicated to storing SQL backups, with appropriate permissions on it.
