Dear friendz,
I am binding morethan 100 records in to a dropdownlist control in my web project.
If I click the dropdownlist, It is showing more than 25 data with vertical scrollbar.
It is not feeling good to look.
I want to customize the displaying records.
It should display only 10 records with vertical scrollbar.
What I have to do? Pls help me

I don't think you can set that with a standard control.
If you can, it's a HTML setting, so you should search general web dev info, not just ASP.NET.

I also had similiar problem.
i had abt 40 records to bind to dropdown and it must not scroll vertical.
something similiar u can say.
Solution implemented by me was:(lots of work in it)
I kept dropdown un-binded(rather binded to single value(-Select-,-1)
and ReadOnly
Second on click on dropdown, i did show a vertical scrolling div
havin table inside it with 20 rows.Onclick of TD, i would capture that row.
I had little right arrow button on right, on click of which it flipped div with another similiar di of 20 rows.(u could rebind same too). I added selected value to my original dropdown(dropdown.insert()) and kept it selected.
Pretty hacky and lot of work, but at end it did pay for me.
With 100records, it may not be suggested but just imagine user scrolling down for hundred values poping down.
It was better than it.

hi sir, in what aspect you were unclear.
what i did was a div with runat server attribute
this div contains as many inner divs with div style as display:none
and
added a dynamic table(s) at codebehind to inner div.
this table contained
i did show show inner-div1 on click of dropdown
if side arrow clicked i hide this inner-div1 and shown inner-div2)
if any td is clicked i hide this all div as whole and populate value in dropdown through javascript

I have a grid view that is bound to a table in database table (Events) through an objectdatasource that looks something like this:
EventName | Event Description | Event Type
------------------------------------------
my event |Great |Rock n Roll
the database schema is EventName = nvarchar, Event Description = nvarchar and Event Type = Int
Event type is then determined from retrieving an nvarchar value from an EventType table that corresponds
to the integer value it holds.
On Update of an event the Event Type column in the data grid shows a drop down list bound to another
datasource that populates it with the string representations from the EventType table. I am not sure
how to persist the selected value back to the database for the Events table. I have the sql code but am not
sure how to retreive the drop down lists DataValueField and pass it back as a parameter to the Update method.
Any help would be much appreciated. I can post up the code if needed

I am doing my collage project in ASP.net using Visual Studio 2003. I am unable to access my collage network using laptop. So, now i am suppose to be using my collage PC for my work when i am in collage.
So, how can i save my solution file and even the aspx file that is in the IIS in my USB drive.
Pls tell me how to do it.

Just copy the whole folder onto the USB drive. If you have set up the project to load via IIS, you need to make sure you copy to the ISS location to open it, or set that location. If you're just opening a solution that is a web project, you have nothing else to worry about.

How can I clear a dropdownlist selected field without it removing the item out of the list? When I do: DropDownList1.SelectedItem.Text = "" it will clear the selected item out of the display and the list.

No, it will set the text of the selected item to an empty string.
You can't clear the selection of a DropDownList, there is always one item selected. Set the SelectedIndex property to zero if you want to reset it back to have the first item selected.

hello all
i have the following function
get from table 1 result 1 the result is 961 row

get from table 2 result 2 by result 1 the result is 1 row
get from table 3 result 3 by reslut 2 the result is 1 row

it run for a while then it gaving me this error
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached.
and this is the first time i get this error
note: i use speical pool for it
can anybody tell me what is wrong

Don't make queries in a loop like that. Join in the data in the first query, so that you make only one query, not 1923 queries.
The error might come from failing to close the database connections properly. As you are running so many queries, you quickly run out of connections.

Hi All,
I have a .Net Web service I need to pass data and some user defined objects from and to the other web services. I am able access and send the data but the objects are not passed.
Even I have declared the classes as [Serializable]. Please advice me. The two classes as as follows.
The ticket class containd the object of CI class. I am able to get data from the Ticket class objects but but unable to get the data from the object of CI class that is there in the Ticket class.

The problem with Application state is, it's for the entire app. So if you have more than one user, the information stored is for all users, not just the one you're focused on.
Was cross page postback on the list ? Why can't you pass information between pages by forming the appropriate query strings ?

Session state can be stored in a central state server or in a Microsoft SQL Server database. Therefore, by configuring multiple front-end Web servers to store Session state in a single server, a user can move between Web servers without losing Session state.
Cookies store all information on the client, rather than on the server, placing no server-specific requirements on the Web application.
ViewState, ControlState, and hidden fields can be used only to maintain state for a single ASP.NET form. You cannot use them to track settings across multiple Web pages.

Hi,
I wrote an asp app and when I deploy and run it on the server, it will run up to a point then issue a timeout error along with some Event Viewer messages.
When I run the app from my VS IDE, in Release mode the app runs happily without any errors and using the same exact data parameters and settings.
I know that when running from IDE in Debug mode, the debug=true param is set, but I'm running in release mode and I understand that debug=false in that scenario. But regardless, I set debug=true when deployed and it still errors out.
web.congif has session timeout and httpruntime timeout set to over 20 minutes and I also found a trick here on codeproject top keep the page session alive. My sql calls in the app also have high timeout settings.
Can anyone think of why an asp app would run perfectly through IDE and not in production?
If the errors I got were a bit more verbose I might be able to do something with them, but they are not, just says Timed Out.
