Does grid view do not provide the place holder for common messages..
If not how do you suggest to do this..

you could always pre-define your column sizes to allow for short error messages.
i believe you can set column width in a properties panel.

Ok,
So I'm taking an open source ASP.NET application and modifying it (I need it to run in partial trust, plus I want to extend it). I also had to tweak it so that it wasn't using the Subsonic build provider. No big deal, I can make my changes and compile. However, the trust issue is causing problems.
I added the following line to my configuration file under System.Web:
<trust level="Medium">Now the application is going belly up with the following exception (the exception does not occur with the trust level left at default):

You can generate barcodes, there's an article on this site about that. You can put the resultant bitmaps on a web page, you can even write a HTTP handler that takes the details on the URL, turns them into a barcode ( assuming this is possible, I thought a barcode was just a sequence of numbers ) and returns the bitmap. You can't control how or where the user of the website prints it tho, except that you can start a generic print with javascript.

I understand that ASP.NET Configuration Manager can be used to control access rules for a website , but that is only on a developer's side, But If I would like to create a page on my website that an admin user can control the users/ roles of a website, Is there a way that I can use the Configuration Manager as an API to its functionalities.? Or is there any other way to do it

The ConfigurationManager Class does not grant or deny access, it provides access to read configuration settings stored in .config files e.g. a web.config.
You can use the web.config to create access rules to certain directories and/or pages. Then couple this with either the built in membership provider or create your own customer provider.

Hello all. I have this GridView control which is bounded to a DataSource. In the DataBound event, I'm doing some extra validations and in some cases, I need to remove a record from the GridView.
Now, I know that it exists the GridView.DeleteRow method, but this one removes the row from the DataSource (i.e. the database) which is something I do not wish.
I was hoping to get the GridViewRow collection and simply remove a particular row without affecting the datasource, but I can't find how to achieve this goal.
Any suggestions?

Well if it were me and I wanted users to be able to remove something from a web based grid view i'd set a column in the database for "enabled" or "active" and change the sql of the "delete" command to set that column value to "0". And have the gridview use a where clause to check for the "enabled" or "active" column
Does that make sense?
Granted this does affect the datasource, however, it doesn't remove the data from the datasource.

Actually it does. Since I can't modify the database (if I could, I'd simply change the stored procedure's query  ), I guess I could add such field to the proper DataTable and then create a DataView... Well, I'll try this. Thanks for the answer!

Okay, I thought about that afterward that you probably can't get to the data but yes, I agree loading it into a datatable and adding a column there would essentially create the same kind of faux filter.

How can I retrive images directly from datbase and show them in Image1 server control?

Write a http handler and have it return the bitmap data from the DB. Your image control URL is the URL that returns that data from the HTTP handler. And yes, there's tons of info about this on google.

Just be aware that the database will increase in size very quickly when you store images in it. An alternative is to store just the URL of the image and use that instead of the actual image.

I am trying to create an assistive search in ASP.NET using AJAX. For example, if a user enters "Joh" into a "name" field then "John Smith" will appear for selection.
I searched MSDN but I only see examples that show how to use partial page updates.
Assistive search seems like one of the most common uses of AJAX but I can't seem to find any examples using .NET AJAX.
To use AJAX in ASP.NET a SriptManager is required, right?
What are the next steps?
