Again - the code will position with accuracy, they are at the mercy of the sheet feeder on their printer.
You can't NOT position stuff exactly. The problem is the printer needs to feed stuff exactly.

Hello. I am working with VB.Net in Visual Studio 2005 in a PC Windows Forms project. I have a DataGridView control that has a checkbox column. Some of the rows in the grid are not valid to have a checkbox. My hope is to have a column where, based on the value of a field in the row, the column sometimes contains a checkbox and sometimes contains a link. Has anyone done this or have an idea of how to do it? I've done something like this in a web project before, but the DataGridView is a very different control and does not appear to be as flexible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This would require you making a couple of controls. One would be a composite UserControl that would show either a CheckBox or a Link control, then second would be a custom DataGridViewColumn implementation that uses the first control and supplies all the checks required.
This is a large undertaking. Creating a custom DGVColumn is not something you're going to get described in a couple of forum posts. It's really quite alot of work to get it working. Here[^] is an example of hosting a datetimepicker control in the DGV, but there is very little explanation of the code.
Normally, you wouldn't have two seperate controls representing values in a table. Either the column in the table is a boolean column, or it's not. What you're describing is pretty unusual.

I know it's kind of an unusual situation...My grid contains records that have a status of open or closed. When the record is open, the checkbox is valid to be checked and actions performed on the record. When it is closed the user must first "re-open" it. In terms of functionality I can have the re-open feature in another column or somewhere else on the screen, but the screen is already very busy and it seems much more natural and user friendly to combine it with the checkbox column.
Although I think you found exactly what I was needing, due to time constraints, I will not have the time to make my own custom DGVColumn. I had a thought the other day as something of a cheat or workaround. I'm going to play around with making an image column and displaying an image of a clear checkbox, checked checkbox, and underlined word to represent a label. Hopefully it won't look too weird or different from an actual checkbox column.
Thank you for your advice and help on the matter.

Well try looking at the results instead of asking me to - you could have had an answer by now!

We're not here to do your own work. This is a simple thing to learn if you took five minutes to read about it.

I'm amazed when people say this. You MUST have had a lot of time to wait for an answer, because it was so much quicker to look for yourself.

Then you better have that "long time" available, because it will take you that long to wait for an answer with a reply like that.

IME stands for "Input Method Editor". You'd normally only use this if you were writing an application for Korean, Japanese, or Chinese languages. This is because these languages have far more characters than can be represented on a normal keyboard. You can read more on it here[^].

They are not codecs. But, yes, you have to have the languages and Input Method Editors installed on the machine.

Hi,
I have my own file format, which is registered in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
When the user double-clicks on a file of my filetype, my program will start. But, is there any way to get the path of the file that opened my program, so i can load it?
Thanks in advance,
Zaegra

No, that's no t accurate. You have registered a file extension that's assigned to your .EXE.

When a user double-clicks a file, the Shell will look up the extension under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and find the command line to use to launch the application. This is usually in the format some.exe "%1" . The %1 is replaced with the full path of the file that was double-clicked. So, if the user double-clicked, say, C:\my folder\some folder\some file.ext , the command line executed would be:
some.exe "C:\my folder\some folder\some file.ext"
The file path appears as a command line argument to the .EXE. I'm sure you know what a command-line argument is.
If you're using .NET 2.0 (Visual Studio 2005 or above), you can get at the command line arguments by using My.Application.CommandLineArgs .

If you hold a file open, then no-one else can use it. Folders, no.
