I am getting a strange problem with IE7 tabs.
The web application I am working (developed in ASP.Net, .Net 2.0), will show a popup message with the count down timer 2 minutes before session time out. The count down timer on popup will start with 120 and will be count down to 0 and if the user doesn't click on the Continue button (which is on popup), application logs out and the web page will be shown with login page. If the user clicks Continue button it extends the session for 20 more minutes.
Now the problem is, I have two tabs (or more tabs) on my IE7. One tab with my application website and the other tab with xxxxx.com website and xxxxx.com is active now. My website will not show the count down timer popup till it gets activated. Once the application tab is actived even after 2 hours or two days, then it starts the count down timer, till that time the session is active. (That means somebody can keep the application session live for any long time by opening one more tab besides it and new tab is active tab.)
So if my application is opened 2 hours ago and it is hidden by other tab, it will not time out till I make the application tab as active tab. Once I make the application tab active after 2 hours or 2 days it shows the count down timer popup on which I can click on Continue to extend the session.
Can anybody know how to stop this behaviour. I can't remove the popup as per the business.
Thanks in advance and any help will be greatly appricated.

Hi there, I have a question which has got me stuck for the past couple of days.
My question is related to datagrids and HTML. I am well aware how datagrid works and data is retreived. I create the database connection, then pass the data to a dataset, on the HTML side I use the Databinder to display the data. I use the template column for higher customization.
Here's an example:
<asp:datagrid id.....="">
<columns>
<asp:templatecolumn>
<itemtemplate>
<table>
<tr><td><%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"DATATOBESHOWN") %></td></tr>
</table>
</itemtemplate>
</asp:templatecolumn>
</columns></asp:datagrid>
The data will be shown in the following format:
DATA1
DATA2
DATA3
DATA4
DATA5
DATA6
However, what I want to do is something like this:
DATA1 DATA2 DATA3
DATA4 DATA5 DATA6
My point is, I need the next DATATOBESHOWN to be displayed on the right of the just-retreived DATATOBESHOWN, not on the next line.
Can it be done? It seems it is the basic HTML properties that wouldn't allow me to do it. Anyone has any ideas? I tried placing the TABLE tags outside the Datagrid tags. No luck. Any clues in what I should do?

GRID is supposed to work in TABULAR format...
you are asking about the COLUMNAR format and that is not possible with GRID (HTML doesn't apply magic)
use DATALIST with repeatcolumn=3 to generate such output....
ask freely if you need any help
cheers !

Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!
I just can't believe it is that simple, I never quite figured out the difference between Datagrid and Datalist. Now I guess I do.
I hope you wouldn't mind me asking another question. It's on textbox and labels.
How do you create a "multiline" label? I tried using a textbox, and disabling the borders to make it look like a label, and to set it read only. However I've ran into several issues:
The scrollbar is a problem, as it gives others the impression its a textbox after all, I managed to hide the scrollbar with the help of CSS. But this brings another problem:
The number of rows in a textbox is fixed. So there is a problem with text longer than the textbox themselves, since I have disabled the scrollbar so users can't scroll, meaning they are unable to read the latter part of the text.
I eventually thought of setting the number of rows in the textbox dynamically by getting the length of the string, divide it by the number of characters in each row on the textbox. So if the string to be displayed is like 100 characters long, and my textbox displays 10 characters per line. I do something like: textbox.Rows = string.length / 10.
It's not perfect, though. BIG PROBLEM: There is a problem if there are carriage returns (Enters) in the text itself? Let's say if the user types "enter" twice at the 11th character, Basically there should be spaces from character 12 to 30. However when determining the string length does not see the 2 carriage returns as 18 spaces. Therefore it still sets the textbox as 10 rows, although the text takes up 12 rows. I am absolutely stuck in how I should solve this.
Can anyone help?

use <BR /> for a line break dear.
like you have text string as given below
aknjdmsdfmdn mnknmdkjd,v cmvlmf,mjjk nbh kj kk jm kj k mkj km k kl kn lvk m,v mhj n, k jk m,h
use this line break tag wherever you want, like
aknjdmsdfmdn mnknmdkjd,<br />v cmvlmf,mjjk nbh kj kk <br />jm kj k mkj<br /> km k<br /> kl kn lvk m,v<br /> mhj n, k jk m,h
it's done.....
hope it helps...

I've searched and have seen this asked before, but none of the suggested solutions are working for me. I have items in a dropdown list that I want to display like this:
Parent
...Child
......Grandchild
...Child
I can see that I am generating the spaces correctly. The problem is that the spaces are being condensed so that the indent ends up not showing. I know this is the default action, but I would like to get around it.
I've tried adding <pre>...</pre> around the text, but it ends up showing in the DropDownList. Same for
I've also tried variations of the Server.HtmlDecode(Spaces) solution, but that doesn't seem to do anything.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

why to use spaces...?
if u r looking for hierarchical structure, go for some special character (may be .)

I'm currently using dashes, but I think spaces would look nicer.

Sounds like you are looking to collect certifications to prove your worth. Not very professional.
As for books, take your pick there are hundreds available now.
only two letters away from being an asset

First, please read the forum guidelines. Your question should have a better title. Second, if you have certifications already you should have an idea of what your learning curve is. If you bought books to get certified stay with the same publisher; some people prefer one over another but if you like one chances are the publisher will have similar books on your topic.

microsoft press is enough to break through the certification barrier..
for knowledge, opt for WROX or APRESS publications. WROX is awesome.....

Hello Folks,
I am developing an application using Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition. I have been using the menu that comes with this development system. While it works ok, it certainly is not real pretty. I am looking for some tools to jazz up my application, but the primary focus is on menuing. I would like to stay in the $200 to $300 range. My app will run on GoDaddy. Any recommendations would be EXTREMELY appreciated!
Thanks,
Karl Tomecek

Did you try this[^]?

If they are not data driven try:
http://cssmenumaker.com/[^]
...cmk
The idea that I can be presented with a problem, set out to logically solve it with the tools at hand, and wind up with a program that could not be legally used because someone else followed the same logical steps some years ago and filed for a patent on it is horrifying.

I am using the following code to create a select box.
<br />
return "<select ID=\"Images_ReplaceName\" name=\"Images_ReplaceName\" runat=\"server\">" + <br />
"<option selected=\"selected\">Do not use</option>" + <br />
"<option>PictureType1</option>" + <br />
"<option>PictureType2</option>" + <br />
"<option>PictureType3</option>" + <br />
"</select>";<br />
I am replacing the "ReplaceName" with the images file name without the extension.
It looks something like
<br />
Images_IMG2384<br />
When I iterate through the form data via "Request.Form" all of the values of the Images_ Keys are equal to "".
<br />
Request.Form["Images_IMG2384"] == ""<br />
How can I get option that was actually was selected.

Ok nevermind. It seems that using an ajax panel was causing the problem.
If anyone knows how I can put my Ajax panel back on the page but still get to this information it would be greatly appreciated.

What? Using Ajax causes problems! WTF I thought Ajax was the solution to everything! The SILVER BULLET of web development!

you are adding the dropdownlist in some container or directly onto the page?
[if the code will get postback, it will generate the control every time aand so the default value will be set everytime]

I was adding via a method to show multiple pictures and drop downs. The problem was with the AJAX panel I had it on. It prevented it from sumbiting the selection. AJAX - Great idea. Poor Execution.
