"Allow service to interact with Desktop"?
What does this mean??
I want to start an application through a windows service (say notepad).. So when I check this option (Allow service to interact with Desktop), I am able to start it, otherwise not..
Does it mean that for GUI application, this option should be checked? What If i want to run a console application? Will checking this option let my console application run or not??
Why is that? And also, how can I programmaticaly check this option for the service that I am creating??
Is it bad for services to interact with the desktop??

In simple terms, Windows Services run under a seperate, non-visible desktop. Checking this option allows the service to interact with the users visible desktop instead of the normal hidden service desktop. Screen Savers run under another seperate desktop, and so does the UI for unlocking the workstation when you hit Ctrl-Alt-Del.

Of course. If this option is not checked, then Notepad will still launch, but it's window will show up on the service desktop, which you can't see.

If the option is checked or not, the process you launch, no matter what type it is, will still launch. It's just a matter of under which desktop the window is going to show up. If this option is not checked, the user will never wee the new application's windows, even if it's a console app.

Generally, yes, it's bad practice. Think about it. What if there's no user logged in??? How are you going to tell?? How are you going to handle this situation?? What if the user logs out during an operation your service is performing?? There are just a few of the questions you have to ask yourself if you are going to write an interactive service.

Well, I am in a newer predicament lately. This, after I managed to get some help on customising a listview control.

The problem I am facing now is that i try to scroll the customised scroll I am facing a StackOverflow Exception.

This code runs in your scroll event handler ? That will do it, you send a message to scroll, then it fires an event, then it sends a message, etc, until the stack overflows

Oh! You mean me's actually performing a loop!
What way do i not loop that? What i need to perform here is when ListView1 is scrolled, ListView2 also gets scrolled to the same level!

All it needed was a PostMessage() instead of a SendMessage()!

There's a ParameterizedThreadStart class, it's start method takes an object. If you have more than one parameter, define a struct, and make that the object you pass through. Your method will need to take an object and you'll need to cast it to be the right object type to get the values out.

Security. Reliability. Threading. Transactional Support. ACID rules. Scalability. Replication. Fault tolerance. SQL standards.
Those are just a few of the things you would need to start. May I ask why you would want to do this though? It seems a heck of a lot of work for something when there are free databases out there right now.

I have created a windows form which has some texts, pictures, graphs and a datagrid. Actually this is a reporting form. Now I want to export this form as a pdf file. There may be a button for export as pdf and after clicking the button a dialog box will apear to know where the pdf will be created.
Plz send me some links or sample codes.

There is nothing built into .NET to create PDFs. You can use the DrawToBitmap method of a control to create a bitmap, then you need a third party library to create a PDF from it.

Hello,
I am using a Java Web Service deployed on JBoss Server.
The WSDL generated from the JBoss Server is being used in the Visual C# 2005 Express Edition for creation of a Third party client or SOAP API Client.
The Reference.cs is generated correctly and I am able to access the methods of the Web Service on JBoss.
The only problem is that the parameters are shown as
<code>public void sharePerspectiveOnDisplay(sessionId arg0, objectId arg1, objectId arg2, int arg3, int arg4, int arg5, int arg6)
{
}</code>
In the above example the only thing understandable is the SessionId for the user and all other parameters are not known to him.
Is there a way thru which I can provide type-mapping for the paramaters.
The same method in the Java Interface/Web Service is as follows:
<code>public void sharePerspectiveOnDisplay (SessionId aSessionId, ObjectId aDisplayId, ObjectId aPerspectiveId, int x, int y, int width, int height)
{
}</code>
So from this perspective, the user of the Web Service do not know as what "ObjectID" he has to pass where and what "int" value to be passed as per x, y, height, width.
Is it possible to achieve this?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I need to list all the openned excel and word documents along with the path of the document. I am able to list the applications using EnumWindowsProc and Process.ProcessName. But i don't know how to find the path of the document. Can anyone help me?

Using the Windows API, there's no way to find out what the path of the file is. You'd have to use the Excel object model (Google for "Excel Object Model") to get the workbook names and paths.

Hi all,
Please any one suggest me how to solve this issue
System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file 'D:\images\2113797.jpg' because it is being used by another process.
at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)
at System.IO.FileInfo.Delete()
It seems that the file is locked, but it's strict I have to delete the file even though it's being used by another process.
