Hi,
AFAIK when you show a main form, and it shows additional forms with either Show() or
ShowDialog(), you can pass an optional reference to your main form as the one argument
of Show()/ShowDialog(); if you do, all slave forms will follow their main form:
when the main form is minimized, so are the slave forms; and when the main form is restored,
so will be the slave forms. That is what form ownership is about.

this weeks tips:
- make Visual display line numbers: Tools/Options/TextEditor/...
- show exceptions with ToString() to see all information
- before you ask a question here, search CodeProject, then Google

Thanks Luc
I've only been programming for a few weeks and hadn't come across form ownership
before, so I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.

Hi i'm just trying to find out if there is an easy way of creating custom wizards to gather user input in a windows application using VB.NET 2005. I have looked all over and only have come across something called magic library and I have no idea how to use the control as it does't give any steps to creating a wizard(at least with the version I found)

I’m currently using vb.Net 2008 to code an old VB 6 system at our organization,
I’m using the LINQ feature and strictly three tiers Architecture to program.
Yet I need some clarification on stored LINQ procedures ,
I would like to convert all my LINQ procedures to stored LINQ procedures,
Please Help?
Oh and if the is any other associated features that VB 2008 has please specify so that I can use these features with LINQ and DLINQ

There's no such thing as a "stored LINQ procedure". What are you talking about?? Using LINQ with your database's stored procedures???
|
|
|
|
|
Please illustrate an example because I don’t really understand that LINQ could be so abstract, and that level of abstraction could use a stored procedure. Vb.net code and stored SQL query

An example of what?? I have no idea what you want.
Again, are you trying to use LINQ with a stored procedure in a datbase???

I am deploying a program. Using the windows installer, I am installing my program to a certain area on user's computer. I set a default pat as EX: C:\Program Files\programName
In my program I have files also saved there. To open those files I have hardcoded (Not proper programming style) these paths in order to access data in them. What if someone changes my default path on the Window installer, Installation Folder, window.
How do I get the path that was put in so I can put it in a variable to use in my code?

Check into Application.StartupPath .

I've never had to zip programatically before, but I have had to unzip. I did it by creating and executing a batch file that ran an unzip program (the one I used was winRAR, but I'm sure winzip would have something similar) through parameters. I was able to pass parms that ran the program in a silent mode, but you could still see the dos screen flash for a moment. It wasn't a very pretty solution, but I only needed it to work for a one time thing. Perhaps the best place to start your search for more information is documentation on winzip or some other zipping program.
Hope this helps.

First you have to install wzcline (winzip add-on).
Const pathWinZip = "C:\...\Wzzip.exe"
Shell(pathWinZip & " C:\1\1.zip " & "C:\1\*.*", vbHide)
OR
'This is better because until the zip is not totally completed the program 'will not continue to the next statement.
'The only problem is that a prompt command window popup for a few second and 'close itself. I don't know how to hide it.
Const pathWinZip = "C:\...\Wzzip.exe"
Dim WSHShell As Object = CreateObject("Wscript.Shell")
WSHShell.exec(pathWinZip & " C:\1\1.zip " & "C:\1\*.*")
'waiting for zip end task...
WSHShell = Nothing
explanation: all the files that are located in C:\1\ will be zipped into C:\1\1.zip
Hope it helps

This code relies on the user having WinZip installed. Not good bet in my book. Using a library that's compiled into his own app removes that dependancy.

Is the Crystal Report on the same machine that holds the MS Access Database? If not, you could speed it up by putting them on the same machine.

Hello Pete,
If your report contains sub-report, please try to uncheck the checkbox "Re-import When Opening" in the "Subreport" tab page of Format Editor of the subreport.
You may also try to declare global object of report, when user first starts your application create a new thread and in this new thread fill data in your report but do not bind it to CrystalReport Viewer, when the user wants to view report on click of some button then bind this report to Viewer.
I hope this helps.

Your code setup up the share, but doesn't do anything to set any permissions. Which version of the .NET Framework are you using?

I am using Framework 2.0 (VS2005)

Hi ,
I had a project in version 1.1 and I have
migrated it to 2.0 using visual studio .NET 2005 but its throwing the
following script error in IE 6.0 only while selecting any value in drop down.
'event' is null or not an object.
In firefox, it is working fine.
I used DOM Validations for firing client side validations. This error is firing even before the drop down's selected index changed function is called.
Can anyone please help me out to solve this. is there any property or
setting i have to make for 2003 project to work in 2005?
Is it a bug in VS.NET or is there anything settings to be made?
kindly do help me guys.
Vikram

This is a question better asked in the ASP.NET library. It doesn't have anything to do with VB.NET.

No. ASP.NET 1.1 and ASP.NET 2.0 work very differently. These differences may be what's causing your problem, though I have little to no experience on the ASP.NET side.
