Cache efficiency almost certainly gets better with this method. I am interested in the result of timing the two algorithms if c#_keithy takes the time to do it. If so, let us know which performs better on your data and maybe any noticable tendencies in the dataset you used.

Cheers everyone, your input was greatly appreciated, the algorithm was needed to find the path that was recursively scanned to populate the database with file content information.
Am still working on an implementation of the algorithm using alphabetic sorting and comparing the top and bottom records, using a for loop
For now I am just storing meta data on the database so that I can automatically tell what path was scanned

I would like to display a password in a DataGridViewTextBoxColumn. I want the password to be shown as characters ie. *. How can I achieve this?

there are more technics to solve ur problem:
and this is on of them:
u can add the temprory field to your gridview and then on it add a textbox with special name such as pass then put your favorite info from your db (for example...).
now you must to write below code in the rowcommand event of your gridview:
object obj=gridview.rows[index rows].findcontroll("pass");
textbox txt=(textbox)obj;
and in this step you must to write your favorite character instead of the real password.
txt is a object that contain information of the pass word for each rows that seperate by index rows.
good luck
nobody help you...
you have to help you yourself
and this is success way.

Hi
I an only guess that something bad happen in your OnStart method After you stop the service and restart it.
Use try catch block in order to process any exception thrown,
And log the error message to the event log in order to track down the bug.

Use a DateTime object and perform the calculation with that. The result will be a TimeSpan object.

Have a look at the XmlTextReader class.
Use MoveToFirstAttribute, MoveToNextAttribute and ReadAttributeValue methods to read the value for each attribute.

You would need a publicly available (on the internet) server for that. other than that. search CP for "chat server" there are alot of great articles on both UDP and TCP servers and clients
If it' stuck, DO NOT pull harder!

This sounds like a candidate for ClickOnce. This[^] article should give you some idea of what it's all about, and how to set it up.

storing session data in a separate in-memory cache?
What's mean of separate in-memory cache?

Please - don't start new posts for extensions to old ones. You're cluttering up the forums.
This topic means that you are storing the data in a separate process to the process your ASP.NET application runs in. The reason that you do this is because the InProc process is tied to the thread/application that created it. In other words, if your website is running on a multi-processor server then having InProc for your site is a bad idea because the in-proc session is per processor.

This was an adjunct question to a previous post, so should have been asked there or on the article. By creating a new thread, others who might have similar questions, have been deprived of seeing that these topics are linked.

Hi, im trying to get my head around structs. Whats the difference between using the following?
public struct aStruct
{
public int sId;
};
static void Main(string[] args)
{
Program prog = new Program();
aStruct theStruct;
theStruct.sId = 5;
or
aStruct theStruct = new aStruct();
theStruct.sId = 5;
}
|
|
|
|
|
Nothing really, the most important thing with structs is they're value types, i.e. if you did the following:
aStruct firstStruct = new aStruct();
firstStruct.sId = 5;
aStruct secondStruct = firstStruct; then secondStruct contains a copy of firstStruct not a reference to it, i.e. you can change properties on secondStruct without changing firstStruct . If this were a class then changing secondStruct would change firstStruct as well.
To be honest I would use the second method because it is more explicit and clearer what you are trying to do, if you then decide to change the declaration of aStruct to a class rather than a struct then you don't have lots of NullReferenceException s popping up all over the code.

Thx alot, so say for example if i wrote the following:
public struct aStruct
{
public int sId;
};
static void Main(string[] args)
{
Program prog = new Program();
aStruct theStruct;
ArrayList list = new ArrayList();
theStruct.sId = 5;
list.Add(theStruct);
theStruct.sId = 6;
list.Add(theStruct);
theStruct.sId = 7;
list.Add(theStruct);
}
I would then add three objects of type theStruct to the list even though I didn't explicitly created them with new?
