His previous nice was 'shemvignesh'. Now it is 'svignesh'. Looks like Numerology/Nameology suggestion and hence he is trying to debug that issue first and thne debug this ConnectionString issue.

ADO.NET is the thing to google if you don't know how to connect to a database. There's also tons of articles here and elsewhere

Hi all,
In my project i am retriving some values from database. For eg: id,brand,status,comments.
After retriving this i am storing the values in the dataset. My doubt is, i want to get the count of records with the same brand, and also i want to bind the those records into datagridview which come under an specified category form the dataset.
For eg:
id brand status comments
1 aaa 1 test
2 bbb 1 test
3 aaa 1 test
4 ccc 1 test
5 bbb 1 test
6 aaa 1 test
7 aaa 1 test
In the above i want to dispaly only the record with brand "aaa" in datagridview, and want to display the count of "bbb","ccc" in a label control.
Plz any one help.

You should change your SQL statement..
SELECT brand, COUNT(status), comments FROM Table1 GROUP BY brand,comments

How did you bind the data to DataView?
In SQL statment, you have to change the statment like above....

hi,
imagine that i have five arraylists(ShapeTypeList,ColorList,CoordList,SizeList,PathList). All contains different types such as enum,Color,Point[] and etc. This arraylist is used in the form to store information on the Shapes to be drawn onto the form. Then, there is a Save function which is used to store all the informations in the arraylist using xml. I've create a AllData class inorder to serialize the class to an xml file. Can anybody give me some guides or tips on how to use xmlserializer to save the arraylist into xml file? the format i'm looking for is as below:
<RootClass>
<Arraylist1>
<ArrayItem1a>....</ArrayItem1a>
</ArrayList1>
<ArrayList2>
<ArrayItem2a>....</ArrayItem2a>
<ArrayItem2b>....</ArrayItem2b>
.......
........
........
</ArrayList5>
However other format also acceptable as long as i can deserialize it later.

You can either pass connection string as a parameter to the constructor or set the ConnectionString property of OleDbConnection.
For example:

OleDbConnection con1 = new OleDbConnection(connstring);<br />
OR:
<br />
string connstring="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=c:\bin\LocalAccess40.mdb"<br />
OleDbConnection con1 = new OleDbConnection();<br />
con1.ConnectionString=connstring;<br />

you're missing a line in there which tells the OleDbConnection how and where to connect to a database.
the line will look like:
con1.ConnectionString = "Your connection string here....";

I am trying to use the DbConnection and i used the following code.
public DbConnection mConnection = null;
mConnection.ConnectionString =value; //value has the connection string
but at the runtime its giving me
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Exception.
Can any body pls tell me how to use DbConnection.

The problem is that your object mConnection has not been instantiated. You need to instantiate a class to be able to use it. Instantiating means creating an instance, exactly what the exception message is telling you You do this by calling the constructor of the class.
public Dbconnection mConnection = new DbConnection();
mConnection.ConnectionString = value;

Except it won't work becuase DbConnection[^] is an abstract class and cannot be instantiated. You need to use a concrete class derived from DbConnection (e.g. SqlConnection)

It seems like you are working with the wrong DB Connection class.
In order to connect SqlServer Database use the SqlConnection under the System.Data.SqlClient namespace otherwise you can use the OleDbConnection under the System.Data.OleDb namespace

I got the Solution. Actually that is a very generic database connection class which can be instantiated with any type of connection like oledb,sql etc.
i solved that problem by
public DbConnection mConnection =new OleDbConnection();
