Hi,
I am positive I have been a member here on codeproject since 2000 or 2001, I cant remember which year. I have two accounts (One for home and another for work) here on codeproject.
My question is: I have noticed that my join date does not seem to be correct (At least by my memory) How can I fix that?

AFAIK you can't ... it'd be a bit pointless to let memebers edit stuff like that.
IIRC the dates all got reset at one point and so that is why it's changed.

Your join date is set by when your account is created and isn't modified (or modifiable)

It really doesn't matter much... but I am positive my join date was modified at some point on my other account. I think it was years ago when I heard you had to rebuild the database or something.
But I am not really concerned about it, just thought I'd ask.

There is a "Report Broken Article" link at the top of each article. Be sure to include a link to the material being plagarised if possible

I've read the two articles and I'm not sure which bits you are referring to as being copies. There's overlap in material, definitely, but I'm not seeing anything blatantly ripped off. If you can point out the bits I can contact the other author

My article is about how to use Oracle's Instant Client files within your project to connect to Oracle & retrieve data. It essentially explains how to avoid having to install the Oracle developer tools by using a few files from a package they provide to accomplish connectivity with a minimal footprint. This is essentially the core of my article and what is being copied (although his is not in as great detail and is using the latest client version files).
The actual code in either of our articles has no bearing on the material presented. While our code may differ in appearance it achieves the same results, which is to use the Oracle Instant Client files within a project to retrieve data from an Oracle DB without installing the developer tools.
Sort of like getting some software, changing the labels & box, resealing it and selling it as your own

Could I suggest something. Whenever a new member signs up. Let them get a mail to their ID when prior to their e-mail ID activation.
That mail should contain detailed posting guidelines for this Community and would also contain warnings of being banned if not properly particioate in maintaining the decorum of the community
This way thay cannot evade the decorum guidelines of this forum.
Please see if we can do something more. I'm speaking this in regard to the long discussion we had in the following thread

In a lighter vien for a few truant users, we can also mandate and stipulate an induction wizard to be taken up within 30 days of signup.
Instead of showing up a long story, it can be like Step-By-Step. Wouldn't that be a bit interactive too?

As another light version of it, you could do two things:
1.
offer varying parts of the guidelines as tip, always, to everyone, in the
message/reply form.
2.
present a new member with a couple (say 3) of multiple-choice questions
every time they start a new message/reply.
They would be required to answer the majority correctly before they can enter
their message.
And they would need say 10 times a maximum score before they are no longer submitted
to this test.

My impression is that we often spend a lot of time and power searching ways to prevent people, who do not fit, having access to this forum.
Maybe we can benefit more in searching ways, how to support people who are not able to understand which way to behave "correct"!

My Suggestion from the Lounge:
I like to make a suggestion, which would help to make the forum more multicultural.
Why not give "full trusted" members of CP community the possibility, to write the forum guidelines in their mothers language!
There are a lot of excellent programmers from India (and all over the world), who I'm shure, will be happy to help programming friends in their country.

I think there are ways to make them read instructions, by spoon feeding
and testing. See my earlies message.
Unfortunately I see no way in making them read and try the replies they
get, so some of them keep asking the same questions, completely ignoring
perfect replies.

Sometimes when you reply to a particular thread and the discussion goes that way. Way down, you would find another poster asking a similar query, which has been answered sometime back in the same discussion query.
Now instead of COPY-PASTING the content across the thread, there is a cool PERMALINK that you can use. However, I feel that there is a drawback with the Permalink since it contains full absolute URL. Is it possible to introduce a Bookmark Navigation within the discussion threads. Perhaps CP can try introducing an Auto-Hyperlink to other threads for the same query using a simple AJAX textbox.
