Add the bitmap to your project as an embedded resource.

Ensure that the filename matches the name of your control minus the default namespace. (If the default namespace is "MyControls" and the full control name is "MyControls.Library.FooBar" the bitmap needs to be named "Library.FooBar.bmp".

Apply the ToolboxBitmap attribute passing in the type for the control, in C# this is typeof(FooBar) not sure what the equivalent in VB.NET is.

In C# add XML Comments to your class. This will work.

Hi rama,

How can I add such intellisense
for proprties/Methods in a User Defined Control ?

I tried the Description Attribute.

But it shows the description only in the properties window.
How can I get it in the CodeWindow

I want the descriptions about the Properties, Methods etc exposed
from my Control to be visible also in the Code Window to the
developer using the control (Just like it works for the Standard controls)

The summary tag will be what is shown when the name is chosen in Intellisense, the param tag tells it what to show for each parameter. Here's an example, copied from one project on my hard drive

/// <summary>
///    <para> Removes a specific File from the FileCollection.</para>
/// </summary>
/// <param name='value'>The File to remove from the FileCollection.</param>
/// <returns><para>None.</para></returns>
public void Remove(File value) {
    List.Remove(value);
}

The <para></para> tags are for formatting in utilities that take the XML documentation to spit out other documents, as far as I can tell it is ignored by Intellisense.

It works the same for properties, except you don't use the <param> tags unless its an indexer.

You are right.
The intellisense shows the summary contents.

But it doesnt seem to work in case of a User Control.

When I make a Control (attaching the Summary tags for my custom properties and methods) and,
then use that control in another application, the intellisense doesnt show the Summary Contents
for the Properties or Methods.

Does the information in the summary tag go into the
final executable as Metadata ?

Ah, no it doesn't I forgot about that Blush | :O

You need to place the resulting .xml file in a certain directory. I believe you place it in the same directory as the assembly you are referencing, if you go into your Windows\Microsoft.NET\v1.0.3075\ directory you should see several .xml files there containing the information about the Framework.

Does anyone know if you can do something similar within the same class?

i.e. When calling a function from within the same class you can type ( or , and that tooltip pops up with the parameter list. Is there anyway to get that summary info to display in there?

The tooltip might show " int MyFunction(int,int) ".
I guess I'm looking to see something like " int MyFunction(int MaxValue,int MinValue) ".

Using Checkbox in Setup project

I want to create a Setup program in .Net, I tried to use the "Setup project" under "Setup and Deployment Projects".

I have added a Checkbox page in the "User Interface" and changed the labels and properties. But how do i USE the value/state of the checkboxes later.
For example in "File System" view.

I want to use the value/state of the Checkboes in the Condition field.

I have no idea how to do this.

Hi,

I'm trying to draw a customer list view with gdi plus. WS_EX_COMPOSITED is a nice window style that would give double buffering, but it screws up gdi plus alpha stuff and i can't use it. i would double buffer myself, but i am in cListControl::DrawItem(DRAWITEMSTRUCT* DrawItemInfo), which means i would have to double buffer each item individually.

any thoughts?

Hey everyone, is it possible to set your screen resolution with .net? The answer is probably no but it would be cool if you could. I am currently attempting to make a 2d game using GDI+ with WinForms. Cool | :cool:

If you cant find a solution using the class libraries (which i suspect), simply call the Win32 API for setting the screen resolution.

I can't afford a copy of Visual Studio .NET for home use, so I'm trying to learn C# and .NET the cheap (hard) way i.e. the .NET SDK, a text editor and the command prompt. What I'd like to write are some Windows Forms applications, but I can't stand the thought of having to write the form layout by hand. Does anyone know of a free form designer that I can download and use with C#?

You should get Visual C#.NET standard version it's only $100 I bought that and Visual C++.NET standard (which is also only $100) becuase I am also on a very tight budget and only using it for learning purposes. Smile | :)

I bought an academic version which has just about everything for 100.00 at a local university. If you dont go to a university, find someone who does and have them purchace a copy for you. If you dont know anyone that goes to university, hang out next to the university book store and ask someone that is a student to buy it for you. They usually check school ID's for this because microsoft requires a copy.

Or you could always get the 60 day free trial from MS. I think its 10.00 for shipping.

Will running applications in the CLR environment on future versions of windows operatings systems [ones with .net framework built-in] yield a performance gain ?

I don't know enough about the internals, but it seems that there might be some advantages to the .net framework being built into the operating system, if not performance perhaps other advantages?

I don't know about performance,but with .net framework size of file will become very small I THINK. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Smile | :)

Sounds cool.
I also heard that the new Intel/AMD processors will handle late binding (ie polymorphism) a LOT quicker. Not sure how, though.

There is two modes of execution: JIT compiled and pre-JIT compiled, so, it's always compiled code running. Not so efficient as C++, but almost there...
