Open your VB 6.0 project in VB.NET 2005.
VB.NET 2005 will automaticaly change the existing VB 6.0
code to VB.NET 2005 code by "visual Basic Upgrrade Wizard"

Actually opening a vb6 project by vb.net, it tries to convert the code, but I couldn't actually ever use the converted code of my projects (because it really cannot do 100%) and the best method is to create a new project and use the converted code just as a kind of help or reference to write your new vb.net code!

I try to write down a DataSet to XML.
In my dataset I have a row named fe_date (datetime) that sometimes is NULL.
When i write the XML file it skips that row if it have a NULL value. How can I force the writer to write the element for fe_date even if it doesn't have a value?
I've tried to use myDataSet.WriteXML() and with XmlSerializer() both with the same result.

I've never had to do this, but off the top of my head, it would probably require you supply custom serializer code in your object class to support this. Possibly adding an attribute to the tag. This same code would also supply the ability to interpret the XML and convert it back to an object.
Take a look at this[^] for the idea. AFAIK, there is no way to tell the standard serializer to output empty tags. NULL is not really defined in XML, so it's no surprise that it won't output an empty tag set.

wow - well, think about this. What do you need, to show the temperature in your office ? you need - a THERMOMETER. Yes, no web service in Timbuktu can give you the temperature where you are, you need to find a thermometer that feeds the temperature to a PC.

Evreything is possible in VB6 - just get C++ to do the real work, and use COM to get the values across to VB.
Why are you stuck with VB6 ? It's been unsupported for some time now.

Your question is not that clear but if I have understood you correctly, you should in the KeyPress event of the datagrid, check if the pressed key is enter (ascii code 13) and then use the value of the selected cell of datagrid to do whatever you like!

Hi, I have developer an application to import data from the other database file into my database application. I designed a form with a progress bar to let the user know the progress of importing the data. I set the form border style to none mean the form will have no title bar. Everything working fine but one thing that I need to change is when I hide the form title bar, the form will become flat. What I need is making the form 3d (with border) but no title bar. We can see when we install printer drive, we usally found a 3d form with no title bar display the progress of driver installation. This is what I need. I used vb.net 2005 standard edition and if anyone know how to do that please let me know.

You could fake it by putting a panel control on your form, set its BorderStyle property to 3d, and dock it in the middle of the form. Then set the form's FormBorderStyle property to none.

I was wondering if it is possible to detect any application such as Microsoft Word or Paint when it is trying to start up. I want the program I'm putting together to detect any program not just a specific one. I would greatly appreciate any help here, because I have been searching the internet for weeks with no results to show for it. I've posted here as a last resort to see if there is something I may not know about or may have overlooked. I just need to know how this can be done, if it can be done, I don't need to be shown, but thanks anyway. If I could get a reply that would be great as this is for my senior project that will be due near the end of the 2007-2008 school year.
I thank anyone who reads this in advance for at least taking the time to read this in the event they could possibly help.

As far as I know it is more or less possible, meaning that you can detect whether a certain application is running. If you just check frequently enough it will work just as well as catching its starting event. (I am not saying that it isn't possible to catch that somehow, but I just don't know how)
You are going to have to look into checking for processes and their windows' handles, class names and such.

Ok, I figured this one out myself with a little more digging. Processes can be detected through a ManagementEventWatcher. I hope this will help anyone with the same problem...

I recommend buying a book on VB.NET and working through it. To create a new form, just create an instance of it's class, and call ShowDialog() on it. But, as I said, if you didn't know this, you'd probably benefit from buying a book.
