hi there,
I've posted this already a week ago in the Web-Development board but didn't get an answer. I'm sorry for crossposting but I really need help on this one:
I'm using iis 5 to run an asp application. I have custom error pages defines for the http errors 500 through 502 with an url value of /status_500.asp. The file exists for sure. i then created a testpage which does nothing more then a division by zero, hoping the error-page (there is just a response.write on it) will show up. whatever i do, i always get the standard runtime error page instead of my status_500.asp.
does anyone know this problem? any help is greatly appreceated!

ASP I am not sure, but if it is ASP.NET then you can configure this type of errors in web.config file. I think IIS won't handle this.

Firstofall, thanks for your reply.
I'm sorry. I didn't mention that this is an asp application, so no web.config available (in a asp.net application running on the same server and using the web.config settings it works fine).
But for this asp application I used the IIS->Virtual Directory->Properties->Custom Errors Tab to configure the custom error pages.
Can it be that, if you have .net installed, IIS ignores custom error settings because it believes, people will handle this in the web.config?
Thanks again for your time.

I think it is not like that. Upto my knowledge, IIS will generate 500 error when it doesn't have any specific information about what the error happened. But in your case you are getting divided by zero exception. So it will throw the exception details to the response. I think that is happening in your case. ? What do you say ?

I don't really have any IIS admin experience, so I could be totally wrong here, but I think that could be your problem. As far as I know you have to configure the web site/virtual directory to be explicitly non-.NET otherwise the request will be passed through the ASP.NET ISAPI filter. How you do this and whether it really has any effect I'm not sure.

How can display 10 rows in a datagrid with no values if record is not present
|
|
|
|

Hi,
Check if your datasource has more than zero rows.
If no then add 10 rows manually to the datasource with blank data and then bind your datagrid to the datasource.
Thanks and Regards,

I presume that you are binding the datagrid using a datatable. If no data is present in the datatable, add 10 rows manually and bind that to grid.

There is no easy way to do this as the server cannot push data to the browser. You would have to either refresh a page often to check if an event is coming up or use Ajax to check. Of course all this depends on the user having the browser open (and you can't force to browser to take focus on the desktop).

Why don't you show us some code where you are having a problem and then we can help more.

What about writing a small app, that displays a pop-up reminder, that subscribes to a web service?

Hi
In my application, I need to find the average data transfer rate over the network to show the progress bar, If any one know how to retrieve it in asp.net, kindly reply.
Thanks in Advance

Theres no reliable way to get this information short of testing the connection. Obviously you'll get a different answer every time so you'd have to get an average some how. In short, its tricky and if its just for a progress bar don't bother (I don't see any way you could get it to work in this scenario anyway)

I have quite a complicated problem with the above. I will do my best to explain, although I have a word doc (size 149KB) with the problem explained full with screen shots if any kind person would like me to email this link too I can do...
My Grid View consists of 4 cols:-
1 - ItemTemplate (checkbox)
2 - imageField
3 - ItemTemplate (linkbutton)
4 - ImageField
The data that Im binding too consist of nearly 1000 items and I have paging switched on Pagesize = 200.
Once a user selects an item from the grid, this info is passed to another page.
There are 3 ways in which a user can do this:-
1 -The user clicks col 3 (linkbutton) then col 1 (check box) becomes automatically ticked and the details are passed to another page. This is working fine
2 - The user clicks two checkboxes (col 1) and then clicks col 3 (linkbutton) , but because two other check boxes are already selected and the user has clicked the ‘Col 3’ of one of those items selected, the details of BOTH selected items are passed to another page. This is working fine
3 - This is where I need help If a user clicks on Col 3 (linkButton) and 'other checkboxes' have been ticked (but of different rows to the one which the LinkButton is one) I need to unselect all of the selected check boxes & then auto select the checkbox associated with the clicked linkbutton, then details of this single selected row are then passed to another page. My problem is that some of the checkboxes I have to unselect maybe on different page
If anyone actually understands what I’m trying to do ?! Any help would be most appreciated.
Many thanks,
Janet

Hi,
You should loop through all the rows of Gridview and find checkbox inside it and uncheck that checkbox in your code.
foreach ( GridViewRow r in gv.Rows )
{
CheckBox chk = ( CheckBox )r.FindControl( "chkid" );
if ( chk.Checked )
{
chk.Checked = false;
}
}
Now the question comes of the checkboxes on the different page of gridview.
That I think u dont need to worry about if u r not maintaining their values during postback.
If u r doing so then you shoul remove all the values from there except the one which u want to keep.
I hope this will help u.
Thanks and Regards,

if you want popup window on button click event
then,
put this code to Page_Load event
Button1.Attributes["OnClick"] = "javascript:window.open('aspzxpage.aspx','anytext','scrollbars=yes,width=550,height=375,titlebar=yes,toolbar=no,status=no,alwaysLowered=yes,directories=no,hotkeys=no,menubar=no,toolbar=no,resizable=no')";
