ok wasnt to sure if this was for mobile development or hardware, but anyway
im looking for a robot controller board that will store and run a program that is written in c++ or assembly code, but it must also have a capacity to store data and handle inputs and outputs
so has anyone seen or heard of anything that can do this, i have looked at various ones like lego mindstorms and serializer but these have proven to primative or require a constant connection
so if anyone knows of anything thats affordable <£400

I'm trying to pick out a HDD to be used with Linux (Fedora Core 6). I've ruled out SATA because it doesn't reach the specs I need, and I'm trying to choose between SAS and SCSI. I'm leaning more towards SAS because SCSI is on its way out. However, SCSI is more reliable because it has been around much longer. My main question is if I go with SAS and decide to upgrade to a better SAS driver in the future, will I need to install a new driver? Otherwise, I might as well just go with SCSI for now because I'll have to install more stuff anyway.
If anyone has more information than what I've come up with or can answer my question, please help!

SAS is the current SCSI implementation. AFAIK the only differences between the old parallel and new serial interfaces are at the drive/controller chip level with identical interfaces looking towards the OS.

This doesn't make sense as written. Is one of the two "driver"'s here supposed to be a "drive"? The OS driver is from the controller company and completely independent of the diskdrive. You can upgrade the OS driver or add new drives without touching the other.

I am going to be running Fedora Core 6 and wasn't sure how compatible/reliable/supported (I'm not sure which word makes the most sense) SAS would be. My department had issues with SAS on Linux in the past, which is why I am doing this research. I don’t have the details of their problems, but I wanted to find out if this was common for SAS and Linux, or if it used to be a common problem and is now fixed. Right now, the research I have done leads me to believe that as far as performance, SAS isn’t really all that much better than SCSI right now. Buying SAS over SCSI doesn’t seem like it would be a huge improvement. Am I being misled here?

for linux stability issues you'd need to post to a linux forum. This is justa WAG, but my suspicion is that just like with IDE drives you'd only see a performance gain for burst mode IO with sustained transfers being limited to the mechanical speed of the drive components, scsi drives have higher sustained rates but IIRC they've also had higher bandwidth levels to match. IF the SAS drives have sufficiently higher platter densities than the ultra320's at equal RPMs you'd see a gain there but it wouldn't be bus related.

The best place for this question would be either FedoraForum[^] or the Fedora mailing list[^].
Anyway SAS is SCSI (SCSI over Serial) and Linux doesn't really care which type of physical wire connects the host adapter to the drive. Just pick a host adapter that has driver support in the "vanilla" kernel and everything should be OK.

Some type of malware is causing that. it can be installed on the pc (installed upon first internet connection) to remove it use some spyware remover or antivirus (spyware remover: lavasoft ad-aware or spybot search and destory, for antivirus look at avast) then to make sure that it doesnt come back use a good firewall, i perfer kerio, but something more simple would be zone alarm.
(note that the message is the malware or network attack, whatever you do don't download their software, its bad software posing to be good security software..)
Google the programs i named and you will find them...

It's a harmless message being received using the Network Messenger protocol, from the Messenger service. Go to the Services console in Control Panel, Administrative Tools and stop this service, then go to Properties for the service and disable it. The fact that the message is getting through shows you have no firewall - very dangerous - and the fact that the service is enabled indicates you are not running XP SP2, which means that you are not getting Microsoft's latest security updates. If you do not keep up to date and use a firewall, you run serious risk of your computer being compromised by one of the many attacks targetting remote code execution vulnerabilities in Windows and other software on your computer.
I recommend that when you reinstall your PC, if your Windows disc is XP SP1 or RTM, UNPLUG FROM THE INTERNET FIRST - physically unplug your modem or router from the phone line or other outgoing connection (saves accidents). Then, after setting up your internet connection, turn ON the XP firewall under the network connection's Properties page, Advanced tab. Only then should you reconnect your internet connection.
If you're not sure what version the Windows disc is, it doesn't hurt to do this anyway. If the disk is SP2, it will ask whether you want to enable Automatic Updates during the setup phase.
Then go to Control Panel, Internet Options and click Use Blank under Home Page. This ensures that if your default page contains anything dodgy (generally unlikely, but if you have a customised version of IE on your install discs it could do something).
As the very next thing you do, before doing anything else, go to Windows Update and download all the updates. Reboot when it tells you, keep doing this until XP SP2 and all the newer updates are installed. I normally opt-in to Microsoft Update so that Office, Visual Studio, SQL Server, etc are all kept up-to-date too.
You should ensure you're running up-to-date anti-virus software. I use AVG - the free edition[^] is available for non-commercial use.

Unless you have a hardware solution and drivers that supports this, there's no way to tell the difference. Not even at a low level with a mouse hook.

You've made the classic mistake of assuming that there is one. Most don't expose one. What you want isn't really possible. Media is media, be it magnetic, reflective, or silcon. The only way you're going to prevent unauthorized USE (you cannot prevent unauthorized copying!) is to use a hardware key dedicated to the purpose of protection. The USB drive is NOT that piece of hardware.

Ever since Windows Defrag ruined one of my disks I have been using O&O Defrag, which works a LOT faster (2 hours for a 80 GB partition on a SATA disk, filled with 79 GB of data) and does much better optimation.
Get a trial version of O&O Defrag (which is the only defragger I can recommend, sorry) and defrag your disk, THEN try again.
Also, you might want to create an image of your disk with a working, freshly installed Windows on it, so that you can get back to the "fast" state easily.
