Hi,
I made a bitmap image using graphics in vb.net and its format is Imaging.PixelFormat.Format32bppArgb and then save it as .png file
when i right click on it , it shows that its size on disk is 8kb.
So i want to reduce it up to only 1 kb.

There's a difference between the actual "file size" and the "size on disk" size. This is something you can do nothing about. The reason is because NTFS only allocates disk space in "blocks", not bytes. An allocation block on that disk is 8096 bytes long. So, on disk, even if the file was only a single bye in length, it's sitting in a block that's 8K in size. There's NOTHING you can do about this.

Thank for prompt reply, this will shutdown my mechine, actualy i wanted to capture shutdown/logoff events in my vb.net application. I am running an application for capturing user status. if user shutdown the mechine then application should update current datetime before shutdown

Hi,
I am a newbie to .NET. I have just begun working on .NET 1.1. I want to build a Windows Application (thru VB.NET) that would get connected to a Web site. The Web site creates certain text files at regular intervals which need to be downloaded.
How will my application come to know whether a new text file has been created. Will the Web browser control help me in this context?

If the webstie only supplies a single link, and no data on the file creation or update time, then no. There's no way to tell if the file has been updated without downloading it and comparing it to the last version that was downloaded.
If so, then you'll just have to parse out and store this data somewhere so you can use it in the next iteration to determine if the file has changed or not. How you get the information out of the page depends on how it's exposed by the site in question. But, if this data changes you can proceed to download the file.
Is the WebBrowser class useful in this situation?? Probably not, for two reasons. One, it doesn't exist in the .NET Framework 1.1, only 2.0 and above. And second, it's main use is for a user-inteeractive web session, not automation. HttpWebRequest[^] would be a better choice for getting web pages and parsing them.

If a file on a network drive is already opened by another user is there a way in VBA to determine the name of the user and report this back?
If so any help would be much appreciated.

Using purely VBA, no, it's not. You'd have to convert the C++ code in this[^] article to get this kind of functionality.
Standard Question #1 when confronted with a situation like this: Is this "feature" worth the cost in development? I doubt it.

No events get fired in your program when something happens outside your program, unless you have some sort of windows hook running.
You can most certainly write a program that causes some files and folders to be inaccessible, but it's not remotely secure, people will just find your program and turn it off. It would have to be a windows service.

I honestly think you need to refer to some beginner material for a while, you're obviously being provided with information that's beyond you.
Yes, a service could concievably hijack the way people interact with windows explorer with regard to opening files. I'd imagine it would be hard to make it foolproof ( for example, if you typed a path to a file or folder into the command window, I'm not sure how you'd stop that ), and it would be easily defeated. I still think you're wasting your time.
Having said that, there seem to be a number of commercial products that do exactly this, so I have no idea how comprehensive they are, but I'd guess that they do what this[^] talks about, and what I said to you earlier today - you can password protect files and folders by keeping them in a password protected zip.

How to use callbacks in VB 6.0. In other words, how to use pointer to functions in VB 6. My requirement is as follows

This is will take 2 arguments. first argument should be a pointer to another method which I have declared in my application.
for this, can anybody please give me the signature of the declarations and calling.

hi guys
The problem im having is datagridview rowindex matches the binding dataset.table index, as long as I don't click on one of the column headers to change the datagridview sort order. can anyone help me getting rowindex to be the same no matter if i sort the DGV or not.

Hi! All,
My Vb application is downloading files from a ftp site and while dowloading it hangs apparantly but it is dowloading the file in background. When I see in task manager it shows application 'not responding'. Please help me to come over this problem of application hang and tell me how to display status message (Which my application shows in normal status) in this condition when application is hang.

I don't know of any way of applying a password to a file or folder. I know you can password protect a zip.

I am pretty sure you've not understood me. A zip file is a specific file format, and the zip format requires a program to open it. This file format supports passwords, so you can create a file which is password protected. Actually, I suspect some Office files may support this also. But, you can't create a .txt file and put a password on it, or put a password on the folder where you keep your porno. The file system does not support it.
As Windows doesn't support creating password protected zips, I am certain you need a third party library to do it in code.
