Hi,
I have created a webpage which contains two gridviews. The first gridview contains the list of orders made a company. The second gridview displays the details of the order. I also have a dropdownlist so that they can select particular year and view the list of orders for that year. The user can click on individual orders in the left side grid and it will display the order details on the right side grid. I am using callbacks to display the details. If I didn't select any year and it is defaulted to all the years, the performance of the page is really slow. If I select a particular year and click on orders the performance is better. So I thought that if we didn't select any year the view state will be big(that is why the performance is slow) and if we select particular year the viewstate will be less(better performance). But when I checked the viewstate in both the cases it is same. It has same number of characters. So I am not sure which is hurting the performance. Please let me know your views.

How about:
* The amount of data the query returns to the browser.
* The length of time it takes to perform the query that returns the larger result set.
* The amount of additional disk access the unfiltered query needs to retrieve the data.

Hi,
When I run the query in the QueryAnalyzer it returns the data instant. And the amount of data is the same for all the requests. What I didn't understand is the following...
If I select the year (2007) in the dropdownlist then the number of orders for that year is around 12. so the left side grid which is the list of orders has 12 records and the right side grid has the details for the last order for that year. And when I click on another order on the left side grid, it returns the details in 1 or 2 seconds. But I didn't select the year and if the left side grid has like 1000 records, it is taking like 6 - 10 seconds. The number of records in the details grid will be exactly same. I thought that it might be with the viewstate. But I read that callbacks doesn't update viewstate. so I am not understanding why there is a performance difference. Am I missing something?

Are you using AJAX, or are you using ATLAS to gain AJAX ? ATLAS does a full postback of your entire page. It's not very efficient.

OK, they call it that now, do they ? That would be ATLAS then.
It's more efficient to write your own code, although if you tinker with ATLAS, I think you can make it run better than the default ( which involves a full page lifecycle for any AJAX call )

Hi,
I changed the IE LAN Proxy server settings to point back to my PC. When I run the following aspx application code through debug the "redirect" is performed, but it always comes back with the "Unauthorized Access to ". Is there a way to redirect using the Proxy Server Settings? This seems like a simple way to do custom filtering and that is what I'm trying to accomplish. Any ideas?

I would guess this is happening since you are inserting your script into the middle of the response. It would be a better idea to use registerstartupscript, then it shouldn't affect your control text and position.

I have 4 RequiredFieldValidators control that property ControlToValidate I have set to 4 textboxes.Noe I want error message should display in Validation Summary Control. I have given error message in every requiredField Validator control's in text property.
Plz help how to dispaly errors using ValidationSummary Control.

Hi,
I have 2 pages in my website.
First Page will have some checkboxes.
There is also a link which will take to the second page.
Assume if I am in second Page(after clicking the link), and Press the BackButton from the IE toolbar,
the checkboxes in the First page remains checked.
Is there any way to make the Page_Load event triggered
on Pressing Back Button?
And there should not be any code in the link_click event.

Hi,
I have a webservice in ASP.NET that has one exposed WebMethod that lets the outerworld send us some data and we return a response back after processing that data.
We have a restriction though, our clients use a different develpment environment, and they do not use web services as we normally do.
They will be using 'HTTP Post' to call the web method exposed by the web service in the following manner:
http://mydomain.com/Webservice.asmx/ProcessData?=Parameter = Some Data
And the response that they get back is as follows
<string xmlns="http://mydomain.com/">Response As a String
Is there anyway that I can return only the response back to the client without the XML tags?
My client is being really adamant about getting only the response back and we already have a running webservice that would be really hard to convert to any other format.

I have done this with an aspx page, so it might be similar with a web service. With an aspx page you make sure you just have a page with only the
<@Page header infomation. No tag or anything like that. Then in the page load you do processing based off the request you get. Then you take the Response object call the clear method and then do a Response.BinaryWrite
You will need to convert your string into an array of bytes to pass into the binarywrite.
Anyway, I haven't tried it with a web service yet, but I am pretty sure it would work.

Hi
I need a code, the service needs to visit a webpage ( http://secondlife.com/events/ ) and extract the list of "events" by storing the data in strings.
example:
string1 = "10:00PM"
string2 = "event description"
string3 = "event hoster"
string4 = link_to_full_description (ex. http://secondlife.com/events/event.php?id=543559&date=1177164000)
I know this can be easily done but I havent done any web data extraction till now, so I thought I ask here for help
