How about the password that administrator use with SYSKEY utility?

That password is used to derive an MD5 digest "System Key" which is used to protect the password encryption key. This password cannot be used for any other purpose, especially user login. You cannot "break into" the system using that password, nor can any account, service, application, or lock utility, use it to gain, or restrict, any kind of access to the system. So, it's not really the "Windows Startup Password".

i have to write output for ifconfig command ie. i have to collect the dns address ip address and ethernet details in a separate file like
ip adress ..................... 192.168.168.202
dns ...............................200.xxx.xxx.xxx
i am new to operating system. can anyone help me

Try ipconfig /all > Result.txt then open the file Result.txt you will find a result in this file. The general form of this command is command > filename.txt

I am accessing a website in IE,using a domain and localsystem account .
With the former account , things are fine;with the 'localsystem' account I get a warning message 'Javascript is not enabled for the website'.
Where can we view/modify user settings for IE.I m using IE6.0/7.0.

You already got your answer to this question. You can not modify any settings for a browser running under the LocalSystem account. There's simply nothing to modify. The LocalSystem account doesn't have a profile you can modify.
The only way you can do this is if you create a user account, login with the account, setup youe IE settings, then setup your service to use that account when it starts. The problem with that is you'll lose the Interact With Desktop ability. But, you don't have a choice here...

There's no reliable way to do that.
For example... If you're talking about only Windows machines, you can try to contact the WMI Service on that machine, IF it'll let you connect to it at all, then ask WMI what the O/S is. Not every machine has a WMI Service running on it though, so it's not a reliable method.
The only other way to even attempt to do this is to probe the ports that the machine has listening and try to analyze the measly pieces of information you get from there. Again, a problem arises because of the multitude of firewalls that are now running on all kinds of machines, blocking the very information you need!
Add into the mix Linux machines, Macs, ...
Basically, what you want to do can't be done...

The Send To menu is built from the SendTo directory in your profile dir. Just drop a shortcut into that dir.

I was just wondering if any of you networking gurus can help me figure out why my computer has established a couple of connections to itself. I ran a netstat on my machine for slow internet connectivity and saw, among other things, that my computer had connected to:

TCP mypc:3279 localhost:3280 ESTABLISHED<br />
TCP mypc:3280 localhost:3279 ESTABLISHED<br />
There's also about 25 other weird connections in there that I have no idea where they're coming from (browsers and MediaPlayer I guess), but this one has got me worried. Should I be concerned, or is it something that's normal and harmless?

If on XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 SP1 or R2, or Vista, run netstat -b to indicate which process has these open.
I know that Firefox uses TCP sockets for inter-thread communication. This is to substitute for the lack of UNIX-domain sockets, the use of which comes from its roots on Unix.

I would suggest trying a website like Linux Forums, there you'll have better luck getting an answer.

I also has the same comment of the previous reply to you that this is the Microsoft forum. But anyway, I still give you some idea relate to your issue.
Whether using linux, windows or any other operating system, and you want to install the driver for your hardware. You should know the hardware manufacturer and its model number. Try to check the manufacturer website and drive to find the driver section and if they provide the driver relate to your operating system, then you can download from their website.
Your question is too broad but based on my above comment, I hope you will be able to find the driver to resolve the problem. Good luck!!!

Download and install APT and Synaptec these are Redhat Package Management tools and should get you going.

I have 2 computers connected through a router (local network). One of them (mine, a desktop, connected by cable) used to be called \\hintroom (by this time, I was running XP SP2), but then I installed vista and the computer is no longer called by that name. The other one (a notebook, connects to the router through wireless) and is running XP SP2.
The problem is: when trying to install some applications I get an error message "can't access \\hintroom\documentos p\Bruno - Os meus docs\As minhas imagens"
The thing is:
- There never existed such path at my computer (the desktop) but there are some things that make sense in it:
- "documentos p" stands for "shared documents"
- "Bruno" is the user name for the notebook (the one that has the problem)
- "Os meus docs" stands for "My docs"
- "As minhas imagens" stands for "My Pictures"/"My Images"
I don't know if this is of any relevance, but both setups that caused this (yes, they where only two, so far) where graphic applications (a program for building digital albuns, from Hoffmann, and a Corel plugin, I think)
If you guys could please help I would be greatly apreciated

I didn't install vista yet so I do not know any improvement in communication/networking feature in windows vista. But I'm expereince while install windows xp sp2 and it has some obstacle for me communicate with the other user on the network. This because of the new feature need to be configure its setting to match your networking environment.
My suggestion from here you should read about networking feature of windows vista. It might probably have some feature that improve its security feature and make you difficult to communicate with the other client on the network. I think with a proper condition, you will be able to make your windows vista and xp could be able to communicate with each other.

Ups =S my mistake !! I'm not trying to install the applications on my computer (WinVista), I'm trying to install them in the notebook (WinXP), that's the one throwing the error.

- Corel Update (downloads automatically, but then can't run it) and
- Hofmann Digital Album (download too)

Try to check windows firewall in your computer. Make sure that you configure windows firewall properly on your computer.
