Hi,

you will gain it with a .Net Framework implementation.
I suggest you Microsoft .Net 2.0 because of the more rich implementation of the standard (which has more things to be implemented yet).
By installing it, you will have csc.exe file in the framework folder Smile | :)

You can find it searching ".Net Framework" in MSDN download at msdn.microsoft.com

You may prefer for yourself Mono (implementation of the same standard for Linux, which proceed at a lesser peace of Microsoft's one), BSD implementation, and other few which I may have overlooked.
Each one has its own peace and support from the vendor or the community (Microsoft has both), and has gain its own per-cent of the whole standard implemented. You have to Google for Mono since I do not remember the address.

With Microsoft .Net 3.0, just released, you gain a larger implementation of the standard as well a few non-standard implementation Microsoft has decided to put on. This is not proper a new version of the platform, then, but a whole set of additional implementation (however so cool!).

Depending on wich kind of application you are looking for, there are some free and even Open Source IDE you may want to consider for gain a better experience that just the compiler itself.

If your system has .NET 2.0 then you probably will find csc.exe inside
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727

Simply download the .NET Framework SDK. By the way, there are no visual compilers. There are only IDEs that ease or should ease writing code and free you from specifying all necessary compiler options e.g. to reference assemblies.

I wrote some C# code to send an e-mail using System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient. This allows me to specify the sender, receiver, message, etc., and it works on one SMTP server perfectly. However, when I tried using AOL's SMTP server instead, I was getting authentication failures from their server. Using my regular e-mail program (Eudora), I CAN send to AOL's SMTP server.

The only apparent difference between the two programs is that Eudora does this:
EHLO name..
AUTH LOGIN..
<credentials>..

The program I wrote using SmtpClient does this:
EHLO name..
AUTH LOGIN <credentials>..

AOL's SMPT server rejects the latter, saying "501 INVALID SASL FORMAT OR LENGTH".

I don't know if what AOL's server is doing is breaking any rules or not, but that's kind of beside the point. Is there any way to adjust the SmtpClient object to be more "friendly" to AOL? If not, is there another class I can use?

I cannot say who is breaing standard, and it's a beside point as you say.

You can try to redefine behavior of SmtpClient, which is not sealed, by wrapping or ovveriding SmtpClient.Credentials.GetCredentials method which is a method of ICredentialsByHost interface.

You have to some tests, i'm not sure: this is just a hint Smile | :)

You can also try to find a way to interact with the underlying soket, using a string-manipulation approach to patch the problem.

The easiest and fastest way is to fill a DataTable with your data and bind that to the DataSource property of a DataGridView Control.

Here's what I recommend you do instead:

put all the objects in a System.Collections.ArrayList. Serialize the array list. When you go to deserialize, deserialize the file to ArrayList, and from there you can extract each serialized element.

Invoking function from out of process DLL

Hi all,
I am new in C# World and working on C# project which uses reflection.

Problem:
I am calling a function from a DLL say ServerDLL (C#)which is loaded by an C# application say MyApp.

I want to invoke some funcition say (SomeFunction)of Class Class1 from another DLL say ClientDLL.

For this I am using following.

This works fine, but I found these very expensive and taking too much time. Seems that MyObj.GetType() is loading everytime.
I have googled and come to know that these is heavy operation (see reference)

I have changed the code to work to load it once,

The point should be where you catch the Object Reference: may be MyObj isn't what you expect to. Try to verify which class you have referred to. Having a null result mean that signature cannot be detected in the class (you may have optionally an exception to be raised instead of null return using a BindingFlag if i'm not joked by my memory).

As long as MyObj is ServerDLL.Class1 your code should work, it seems to me. If you do not come to a point, please write a little demo for us to be tested against. I'm probably not able to come forth with a solution without playing a little with the child.

I have tried simple check

Hi, sorry for get you answeret a bit late. I was heavily involved with a few thing here and there.

Having you defined MyObj as object, it's not surprising Type is Sustem.Object.
With that test we are also testing against any possible derived class instanced and handled by Object. So definitely we can say the object you are handling is not ServerDLL.Class1, and therefore the answer to your first question should be: "you get null because no such a method exist in the instance".

I asked you to write a little demo for me to play with, just to be sure of running same condition you have (even if no logic is to be included in the demo: just a Console.Writeline "Method xxx called" would work: i'm not interested in spying what you are doing Smile | :)

).

In my opinion, may be the instance you are handling is still Class1 type, but masquerade by the object declaration. Try to verify this with your IDE, putting a break point on the first line of your test, than putting MyObj under watch and drilling the tree (expanding '+') looking for some that can tell you: there's a Class1 under the cover; otherwise to estabilish which instance have you taken from memory.
I'm not sure what you are getting since I'm not aware of the complexity of your application.

If you can say either you handle or not a Class1 instance, you can say some on the first line of your snippet, that is: obtaining the instance.
From there you can see if it is a matter of member protection (public, private, protected), or some modifier than can prevent you from accessing that memeber.

If still is plumbing, consider to split you code-line to examine each step and its result.
If you are not able to have a MemberInfo Instance of the nethod you want to invoke, invocation will never be possibile: consider splitting the problem in prerequisite and action, so to say Smile | :)

I can show you a couple of way to instancing a class by reflection, but no other to obtaining a reference to an istance: I think either is correct and the problem is elsewhere, or it is not fully correct.

Is SomeFunction a public function? If not, you'll need to specify an additional BindingFlag, something like
MyObj.GetType().GetMethod("SomeFunction", BindingFlags.InvokeMethod | BindingFlags.NonPublic);
