I used the "classic" Macs over 15 years ago and never really liked them. Recently I started playing with OS X and now have two Macs in the house. I bought a 15" MacBook Pro for my wife in December, and a Mac Mini w/ KVM for myself last week. I will continue to write Windows and .Net software, but the OS X platform will be receiving a fair amount of my attention in the near future. The development tools are just as good as what is available for Windows. Most .Net code works well on Mono. For those application where one would like to write a native Cocoa GUI on top of existing .Net code, the Mono framework can be embedded into any C/C++/ObjC program.
The waves of change are coming...

I agree, my personal computer will never run Vista...it's just not worth it, I would rather switch to Mac or Linux. At work however, I may be forced into it, just because company's that run Vista will still want custom software...

After reading that I will probably avoid it as long as possible; I’ll be looking for the law suits that may start flowing Microsoft’s way again shortly.
I have been fed up for years with the U.S. government taking more and more true freedoms away from us in the name of security and I do not need a company like Microsoft acting as big brother either.

I forwarded your link to several people - many of whom already did-the-deed. Still, it's not too late for them to undo it (alas, pride goeth before the fall).
One should always be cynical about MS UpDupes, and your post, along with the newly announced trashing of iPod devices, iTunes, and lots of other apps seem to just enhance lessons all should have learned with the tragic comedy known as the release of MS DOS 6.0 (disk compression, anyone?)
Somehow, the following analogy comes to mind:

My home PC is 5 years old and so it would be futile to install Vista on it. 5 years ago it was top of the range, now it is an antique.
So, when I can afford a new PC I'll get Vista. Currently the one I've spec'd from Dell ( plus 30inch Widescreen monitor) is around £5000. A little out of my price range yet, so SP1 will probably be out before I get my new PC.

they promised to release Vista Embedded within 3 months from the Vista desktop release... This should be a great improvements in our embedded devices, while I am still wondering if our hardware is capable of running it...

And still I see so many organizations and retail shops in Chennai sticking to Windows NT 4.0 and still Windows 98.

I'm actually planning to keep Windows 2003 around for a few more years (as my workstation computer). If I'm ever moving, it would be to a Linux system, and then port all my .NET code to Mono. I don't foresee any reason I'd move to Vista. It's bloated as ever (such as with DRM).
Force might be a good option to pick.

You actually can use GTK on Windows, as well as Windows-Forms on Linux.
But Windows forms is proprietary, and Microsoft can stop mono from supporting it (it can't with C#).
So GTK-Sharp would be the open way to go - but it looks different than Windows forms.

You can, but then why on earth would you want to? GTK on Windows sucks big time, and they *still* have not fixed repaint/resize issues that have plagued them for many years on the Win32 platform. Yech

I moved to 100% gentoo linux at home on both of my machines in the Summer of 2004 and I am very happy especially that I don't have to deal with antivirus software, popup blockers and spyware. There is also one added bonus. At home I do not have visual studio installed so I that prevents me from taking my work (at least my programming stuff) home with me as I did in the past. However since I have converted all my departments servers to gentoo as well I guess I do some remote administration at home...
