if u want mount ur drive automatically during boot then u have to mount it in
vi /etc/fstab file here u can write mount point of it

Does anyone know how to stop windows xp from attempting to get all the attributes and a screenshot of a video file when I click on one? This is fine normally, but my old desktop/server is getting old and I want to be able to open videos without the whole machine lagging (running lots of other services in the background).
Google was no help  and going back to classic explorer view didn't change anything either (no more screen shot but it still sucks all the stats off the file).

One thing you could try is to set the directory type to "list". This should at least stop the previews. Other then that you can turn "Thumbnail Cache" off "Tools->folder options->View->[]Do not cache Thumbnail", but that might actually slow you down.

Yeah already did that. Thanks though. I guess the best thing I can do is use a media manager instead of windows explorer.

How do I automatically execute a program(in linux) when a usb pen drive is plugged into the PC. I cannot install any software on the machine before plugging in the usb drive.

You need to change the udev[^] scripts that take care of mounting the USB drive. You need root privileges and you must do it before plugging in the pen drive.

# vi etc/fstab & first mount that USB drive permanantly so u need not to mount that drive again & again

Carbon is one of Mac OS X's core API sets. You don't need to obtain anything other than the development tools.
