Hello,
I’m working on a window application with visual studio 2005. Get the following error message.
Unable to copy file "obj\Debug\MyProject.exe" to "bin\Debug\ MyProject.exe". The process cannot access the file 'bin\Debug\ MyProject.exe' because it is being used by another process.
What I did is:
1. I just copied some staffs from another project. When I build it, the above message is displayed.
2. I restarted my computer and rebuild the project, the error disappears
3. I add more code on my project and build it, the error comes again
If you can give me any good suggestion, I will really appreciate it.

Seems it does not have any thing to do with ASP.NET, but you might want to use the SysInternal tool to see which process holds the file.

Newbie question !!
I have a placeholder on a standard aspx page. In page_load i create a treeview and fill it .. "phDirList" is the placeholder. ListDirectories adds a new node per directory and calls itself again for any subdirectories, it also returns a list of the directories for my use later.

I then have Node_Change defined as ...

The tree looks fine to start with but then the problems begin ... problem is two fold ...
1. The event handler never fires. I have read bits on other posts about setting the SelectionAction to Select for items that should call the SelectedNodeChanged handler, and also that setting NavigationURL to an emtpy string forces the node into selection mode rather than navigation .... but the event handler still does not fire.
2. After clicking a node, the tree disappears !!!
Any help that can be offered is most appreciated.

You have to reinsert dynamic controls as the ASP.NET does not persist that for you, that said you shouldn't put your code to create the dynamic control in the if(!Page.IsPostBack) statement.

I made a GirdView and fill it with data from database. In this GirdView
i have five columns. First column is Name of item that is represented
in this grid. I want to make items in this column url addresses so when
i click on item name it opens another page to edit the item on which I
clicked.
Can this be done? And if can, how?

Have you checked MSDN at all ? The answer is that you can define your columns, and you can define them to be hyperlinks, if you want to, and specify a URL which includes data items of your choice on the querystring.

Hi all.
I put my swf file in asp.net ( visual studio 2003 ) using this code :

and then I run my program. the program has no errors and runs but there is nothing to show in browser ( ie )
why ??
the page has no swf in it .
what shoul I do ? I just use the code above . no other things...
please help me.

That looks like a working example to me. It's obviously meant to go in the aspx file.

I mostly added that for some kind of completeness...
Why do you ask in the ASP.NET forum if you want to know about database sessions? It has nothing to do with web development, you should have better luck asking in a forum that handles databases or the forum specific for the programming language that you are using.
You should also specify what kind of database you are using, and a bit more specifically what you want to know about database sessions.

Hi frndz,
Can anybody explain me in detail what is the purpose of creating user controls, as there are default controls in .net toolbox?? I really don't get an idea why we use user controls as often this question comes in my mind!!

They are basically the same as includes in ASP. You can use them throughout multiple pages without recreating them.

The purpose of creating user controls is so that you don't have to have the same code written in a bunch of places. For example, one user control I use in all my projects is a calendar textbox. The control has a text box along with a calendar icon that calls a popup calendar. The reason it is in a user control is two fold. Throughout the entire application it functions the same and the code is one place.

You create user control just one time but use it for many times ... with a simple drag into your form ... !

Great question!!.. I struggled with this question for quite sometime and could not understand why User Control were needed. Many senior developers answered my question by saying "It's the same as the #include file in classic ASP". Nonetheless, I never learnt or wrote classic ASP since during my Undergrad I was taught ASP.Net. Basically, the sole purpose of a user control is re-usability. The best explanantion would be that of the calendar as described in one of your previous response. A user control, for example is a login page, hence if a user needs to be logged-in to access a certain page on your site you can place the login (user) control on that page instead of re-writing that code on every page you need it on. In effect you write the code once and you can place it on as many pages as you like. It can be place in a table, placeholder or the page itself. This is done either programmatically using the @register directive or simply by dragging and dropping it on the page.

If I can I would like to piggy back a question to yours. I would like to know, I am certain that it possible but unsure of how it is done, if the is a way a user control from a different project be imported into a current project which I am working. If so, would I use the namespace attribute of @register directive or do I need to use the @import directives. In the past the only way I have used a control from a different project was if I added it to the server toolbox. However I do not want to added to the toolbox content. All, I want to do is import the control and use it direct on the page. It this possible?

For custom controls, just add a reference to the built dll of the control project.
For user controls (.ascx) you need to copy the files to your new project. If your not using 2.0, then the easiest way is to assign this control to the namespace of the page you want to use it on. 2.0 has no namespaces (you can use them, but there's no need to)
