OK. The code you posted is old VB6 stuff. But, in either case, Shell isn't a blocking call, so... There's something else that's hanging up your app. Is it possible that the app you launched is taking up 100% of the CPU??

The app probably would be using most of the cpu time. I came across the process.start which seems to help. Would this be the best thing to use.

Yep. Launching a new process automatically give it it's own thread. It's not dependant on the threads of your app, so launching another thread won't help.

Using Textbox.MaxLength

My textbox is bound to a datatable field. The field length is 50. I set the maxlength of the textbox to 50 also. When I run the form I cannot modify the textbox until I delete the trailing spaces. Can the trailing spaces automatically be removed so the user does not have to do it when modifing the textbox?

If you are able, you should tackle the root cause.

If you use a varchar in the database instead of a char then you won't get trailing spaces in the first place and you'll probably make more efficient use of your database.

In general you should only use char for interaction with legacy code that doesn't understand variable length columns or if you know that the data in the column will always be a fixed length.

Hi all,

Please help!

I have created a program which i am deploying with clickonce from a file share on our server,

it installed on 2 clients no problem, but on the third a got the error:

Unable to connect to the remote server
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond

and on the forth machine a got the error:

Unable to connect to the remote server
No connection good be made because the target machine actively refused it

On the forth machine i copied the installation folder to the desktop and started it from there without any problem.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

I need to send these amalgamated WAV files to a third party software which expects some demographics information at the end of each WAV file.

Thanks Dave for link but it wasnt helpful in this case as I know the basic file I/O all I need is to know how to write proper header information in the WAV file along with the proper byte count which includes the actual WAV file and newly appended text at the end.

But in this example the program amalgamates 2 WAV files as in my case its 1 WAV file + 1 text file = 1 WAV file with all information in it.

That's not what you originally asked.

That's about the only article I know of that demonstrates who to manipulate the headers of a WAV file.

You'll need a 3rd party library just to get started. Something like WinPcap[^]. Get the latest Development Pack, under the Development tab on the left, and it'll come with the documentation for the library.

i think u can try it by just using try-catch and query like

select * from tablename

if u end up in catch then u are sure table not present else table may be present.

Yes, you can programmatically find out whether the table exists or not, but, you need to provide more details:
what type of database?

I start programming by VB.NET 2005.
I create a project by vb.net and build it to exe and moved the file(windows application1.exe)to another computer that not installed Visual studio 2005 on it.sofar my program not running in this computer.
i want understand that i must completly installing Microsoft Framework.net 2.

yes you need to install .net 2.0 framework for any .net appln to run there is no other way to escape

You must install the .NET Framework 2.0 in order for your app to work. You do NOT have to install Visual Studio .NET, just the .NET Framework. You can download the redistributable from here[^].
