Does FireFox have a built in VB.NET interpreter?!

Noone cares. If it was that urgent, you'd be Googling it 'till your fingers bled.
And what does this have to do with VB.NET?

Got me on that one

I am creating a remoting application which should be avaliable from IIS to different clients.
Now the problem is that when i choose HTTP channel then i have to stop IIS as remoting permits only one process to access port 80
Second when i tried using TCP channel it gave me socket exception while trying to access object from internet
How can i make sure that my objects are avaliable remotely over HTTP or TCP without stopping IIS.

The only solution you have is a Web Service. It runs as a website on HTTP, port 80, or whatever other port you want.

You might be right but then on CodeProject and Microsoft I have seen that a dll is transferring data through remoting over using HTTP over IIS.
I am trying the same but not been able to sucessfully implement it.
Also there are pilot project going on which are using remoting to transfer data.
one such project is CABANA

Considering you can't have two different processes (IIS and a remote object) listening on the same port... good luck! A Web Service is a form of remoting, over HTTP.

i want to drag and drop a user control to a program out of my application.
how?
|

That's not really going to work. You may be able to inject the control itself onto a form, but it's not going to be stable, or integrated to the form.
Why would you want to do this ?

I'm having some trouble when opening files, .txt files open fine, but when the program trys opening anything else it will only open a few characters, if anything at all. Opening the file and saving it as .txt causes it to open fine, but just renaming the file does not. The code is as follows...
Public Function ReadStream() As String
Dim Stream As IO.FileStream = New IO.FileStream(OpenDialog.FileName, IO.FileMode.Open)
Dim Reader As IO.StreamReader = New IO.StreamReader(Stream, System.Text.Encoding.Default)
Dim value = Reader.ReadToEnd()
Reader.Close()
Stream.Close()
Return value
End Function
|
|
|
|
|
It's not working because your code is treating all files as text files, which won't work, as you found out, with binary files.
This[^] should help clear things up a little bit...

Okay everything loads properly into a Char() Array, but when converting it to a string certain characters are left out. New code is...
Public Function ReadStream() As Char()
Dim Stream As IO.FileStream = New IO.FileStream(OpenDialog.FileName, IO.FileMode.Open, IO.FileAccess.Read)
Dim Reader As IO.BinaryReader = New IO.BinaryReader(Stream)
Dim Size = New IO.FileInfo(OpenDialog.FileName).Length
Dim Buffer(Size) As Char
Buffer = Reader.ReadChars(Size)
Reader.Close()
Stream.Close()
Return Buffer
End Function
|
|
|
|
|
That's the whole point, you can't convert a binary file into a string.

So why are you asking on a vb.net forum? Ask on an asp forum.

As has been said, this is the wrong place. The web dev forum seems best, but google is even better, there are tons of the things out there for download.

Can sayme, please if possible work with the parallel port in Windows 98 and Visual Basic 6 generating interruptions (like MSComm in serial port do) when a pin of parallel port change your voltage or your value is e.g. 5 Volt ?
I'm not wish pooling the parallel port.
Best regards,
Edgar Steffen.

Your code can't generate the interrupt, no. You'll need a driver that fires events, not interrupts, that your VB6 code can handle and respond to. Without a driver that exposes this, your VB code is limited to polling for the status of various pins. This is CPU consuming and very ineffecient as you'll miss changes of state of various pins if they change and change back faster than your polling interval.

Yes, you can just run it over the network. It will, however, run on your local machine. You need to use some sort of remote desktop software to run it, on the machine it's on.

All,
I've wanted to complete my Ascii Art project in VB6 for my son before I tried to port it over and learn VB.Net in more detail. My son loves the end-result art work you can do by loading an image and having it come out as colored HTML. Instead of buying a program to do it, I wanted the challenge of doing it myself. This program will take an image file (gif, jpg, bmp) and convert it to ASCII and store it in a colored htm file. It uses a loop that replaces a pixel with a letter.
I've got the program working in VB6 funtionally; however, the output is not what is expected and after a couple weeks have no idea why. I was hoping I could post the program here or send it to someone who has time to review the programs code. It's approximately 270 lines of code. Small project with one form only.
I didn't see where I could attach a file to upload the code here. Suppose I could copy/paste it all here, but wanted to see who was interested first. Plus with the program, I'm sure it will be much easier to troubleshoot.
Sincerely,
Harold
