thanks for the reply, Mark.
No, I didn't set a Target when I used the Open() method. How do I do that? The syntax?
As you can see, my knowledge of JavaScript is close to zero - I usually work in C, C++, MFC etc. Suppose I'll have to buy yet another book and learn some!
I appreciate your help anyway.

Search MSDN, online or otherwise. There are plenty of sites out there for help with JavaScript.

Mark,
Thanks for your help - it's working fine now. I changed the toolbar from using plain buttons, with handlers for on_click, to Forms for each button so that I could use the Target, as you suggested.
I had the knowledge to do that all along but sometimes I just need a push in the right direction. It helps to get ideas from others sometimes.
Thanks again.

You can correct this by changing the settings manually.
1) open Windows Explore
2) Tools->Folder Options->File Types (tab)
3) Scroll down to (and select) ASPX - Web Form
4) Click 'Change...' button (bellow on dailogbox)
5) Select you program
Hopefully that solves you problem

I seem to be having a problem with editing datagrid columns. I have defined both ItemTemplate and EditItemTemplate for my Template columns in the datagrid.
The initial display looks good but when entering edit mode... The selected item is changed to textboxes for editing like I expected but items below the one selected are not drawn.
|
|
|
|
|
Found the problem. I was of course populating the DataGrid and the dropdown from a database. It appears that you can't use the same SqlConnection to do both. The datagrid is being populated with the normal items until it hits the item being edited. So when the connection is already open it fails to populate the remaining items.

Can do this with javascript???? please help me!
thanks.

If you mean to have a javascript popup displayed when you open html email in Outlook or similiar apps, I would say this is not possible, the security settings should block this.

I've constructed a website using the primitive (to the rest of you) plain vanilla HTML. There are about a dozen pages, all built on a single boilerplate design. The links, except one, act correctly. The one always opens a new browser window instead of replacing the current view! I thought at first that it was due to a nested table on the page, but I've since added another page with a nested table, and it works correctly. Any ideas?

Have you set the target correctly? Just a quick guess
|
|
|
|
|
On your suggestion I checked. I did once try using a target tag in the menu, and quickly discovered that it doesn't work unless the target is a frame. I tried naming TD, P, DIV, and SPAN elements and targeting them, but none worked. It so happens that on this particular page I had deleted my previous attempts to use target=, but I neglected to remove it from all the others! As a result, the problem page had no errors to find - it was all the others.
Thanks for the tip

Is it possible to have an asp.net web application that uses windows forms for dialog boxes and settings without requiring the client user to have the .net redistrubutable? Thanks.

Hi All,
I am using a datagrid on a page to show some data from my sql database.
I just need to know if you can use a regular expression to change a 1 into 'Male'?
If not how would I change something like that.
My SQL database is returning integers and I want to display them nicely.
Thanks,
Gavin

Use a template column such as:
<br />
public string MyFormat()<br />
{<br />
return MyFormatedString;<br />
}<br />
<br />
<asp:DataGrid ....<br />
<ItemTemplate><br />
<% =MyFormat() %><br />
Should be enough for you to fill in the blanks. Search MSDN for ItemTemplate or look at Dino Esposito's recent three part MSDN Mag series on build a Data Navigator control.

You can do that with an SQL statement
assume gender is the name of your column:
Select decode(gender, '0', 'Female', '1', 'Male') as gender from sometable
search for "sql decode" on google

I need to be able to create an image where I can specify a point (this one being the center) and a second point that is X° from the first point. I then need to be able to draw a straight line from point 1 to point 2. It would also be nice if I am able to label both points. The two points represent the direction or bearing from the first point (From) to the second point (To). This is for the web, so I thought that Office Web Components would be best. I will know the X° that the 2nd point is from the first. Does anyone have any ideas for this? Thanks in advance.

I believe that Microsoft licence the use Office Web Components only on a LAN. Because they believe that not all clients accessing the web server have valid offce licences. Check their web side for details. So if you are planning to use it on a public web server consider something else.

Is there any reason (security?) why the Service Controller.GetServices method returns nothing in an ASP .NET application on WIN 2000 running as Administrator? The same code running in a console app returns all the services on the machine.

Hello everyone I recently had to reformat my harddrive (lost everything ) Now when i create a web service and try to view it in Internet Explorer it prompts me to download the service and wont display it... If i just double click the file it opens into VS.NET code view . I do not know what is wrong, it used to work before I had to reformat my HD.
Can anyone here help me?

It may be obvious but you have reinstalled the .NET Framework? This of course sets up IIS so it can recognize ASP.NET files.

Well, I installed VS.NET (Visual C# .NET standard and Visual C++ .NET standard to be percise). The only thing I can think of is that I installed IIS after VS.NET, is that my problem?
