I was wondering if any of you could pass me a simple program for visual basic .NET, a very simple one, just using commands, like if, select case, strings, or cycles. I need desperate help with this, if any of you cold pass me a program send it to my email adress, lfpmx@msn.com. I would be grateful if you could help me with this, is very important. Why is that so very important?
I don't see how a program that doesn't do anything specific could be important for any real implementation. Is this a homework assignment that you are trying to make others do for you?
Anyway, expect replies in the forum, not to your email. The purpose of a forum is that people can cooperate to find an answer, and that other people than only you can benefit from it.
Also, try to write a subject that does anything towards distinguising the thread from other threads. Almost every thread in here is about someone who needs help, so that information is completely useless. Writing the subject in all capitals and appending it with a ridiculous amound of exclamation marks does not help.

What is it that you are specifically having trouble with?

Tell us how to help, we can't just pop a program out of mid air for you. If you have questions about statements, make a list and everyone will answere them, this should give you a good understanding, also if you have limewire or something similar, try downloading visual bas for dummies book/document, This will help a great deal.

What on earth are cycles ?
The point of a class is that it gives you the info you need to complete an assignment. Ask your class mates if they are able to do the work. If so, then consider doing some extra work to catch up, and paying attention in future, or consider dropping the class and taking up pottery or something instead.

And I always thought classes are used to group related variables and functions.

Hello,
I have a problem...i have a messenger like MSN in which when the user clicks the cross(close) sign on the main window after signing in, the application does not exit, but hides to the system tray. This works fine, on the "On closing" event, i canceled the closing process and hid the form with Me.hide or me.visible = false.
When the user opens a new chat window, and then presses the close sign, the main messenger form hides perfectly but it also hides the chat forms open! I want that the main form hides only adn the chat forms remain in view...how do i go abt doing that? The main messenger form opens the chat window...

The other windows close as the main window is their parent. The easiest solution is to make them siblings, I would think.

Is it possible to make sure that your form is alway's topmost?
I have a situation where a side-bar gets 'topmost' my form.

Set the TopMost property to true...

Then that window would be on top of yours, but still your form remains on top of other windows.
To make your form really ALWAYS on top, you sould check it periodically using a Timer ( Or maybe I guess OnPaint Event of your form).

I have an SQL Function, How can I excecute this function through vb.net???
This function takes a character value and retrieves a date value:
for example : when I excecute the function in the SQL:
select Function_Name('14/06/2007') from dual;
the result will be: 14-jun-2007
and so, plz if any one can tell me how to do this in vb.net, it will be veru helpfull to me.

Isn't that what he said?
To run a function in SQL you need to use a SELECT statment. To get one to run in your .NET application you need a SELECT statement.

REQUIREMENTS:
- The main part of the letter (Opening, Body and Closing) requires to be dynamically generated. That is the user is free to choose what format he wants. (Font Type, Font Size, Font Styles (Bold, Italic and Underlined), Alignments, Bullets, etc. I've develop a program for this.
- If the report has more than one pages, the rest of the pages(except page 1) should have a HEADING that is made up of the Recipients Name, Main Reference No, Date, Page No and a line, then print whatever is left from the previous page. See illustration.

Proprietary reporting tool such as crystal reports, if Im not mistaken, doesnt support this kind of reporting. Correct me if Im wrong coz Im a bit new to Crystal Reports and if it indeed does support that reporting, then its gud news, and Im very eager to know it. But since, I assumed its not possible with Crystal, I turned my attention to the printing classes provided by the .Net Framework.
I have read two articles from Microsoft Library's .Net Development Articles and Columns. The first one was discussing about and extended RichTextbox class inherited from the RichTextBox class of the .Net Framework. This control offers one very important feature, the Print Method, which directly prints the content of the RichTextBox, with all its formatting into the PrintDocument. Exactly what I needed for the first requirement.. On the other hand, the second article was again about an extended classes, this time, inherited from PrintDocument and PrintEventArguments classes. It provided functionalities like writing text into the document (using graphics.drawstring), tracking of X and Y coordinates of the imaginary cursor on the page, and added some events for purposeful tasks.
Thanks to the author of those articles.
COMBINING THE TWO IDEAS
.
After studying the two articles, I came up with an idea to combine them. What I wanted to achieve with this is that at the printpage_event where the actual printing of contents is done, I want to print a text on the page using the write function of the second extended class or simply using the graphics.drawstring method and then print the content of the RichTextBox keeping all the format made by the user, and again print another using the former to display database records with rows and columns and vice-versa.
THE PROBLEM
-The problem is, the texts I've written using either write or drawstring methods didnt appeared on the page. It seems the contents of RichTextBox that were also being printed have covered them. So I have to think for another idea.
I came up with putting all the contents of my report to the RichTextBox control and from their, do the formatting or layouting. But another problem is Im having difficulties aligning rows of records in tabular format and the HEADER Im talking about on the Requirements couldnt be printed with this approach.
Is there any way I can achieve the expected output? Im hoping and believing I can get solution from the ideas of good and experienced programmers/developers here. Im thanking you in advance for any ideas you can give and for the time you've alloted reading this long query. Many thanks.
