Hello I was wondering if someone can please help me. I've written a vb.net program and have text displayed in a listview. The text is longer than my listview control but I don't want to drag out the box to make it bigger (I hope you all know what I'm trying to say). So my question: is there a way to scroll left to right in a listview to view the contents that may otherwise be longer than the size I have made my listview control? I've looked in the properties and could not find anything, for example for a listbox there is a property you can set it to scroll. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Sorry for the long question!!

There should be a listview property called 'Scrollable' that you can set to True.

Hello David, thanks for your advice. Unfortunately though, I've got that (the scrollable property) set to true and it still doesn't work. Thanks for responding though!

I have a listview that I'm using on a form and so far I've only needed to scroll left/right as my test database only have a few records in it. I ran a test and turned that property off and the scroll bar disappears..so that has to be at least part of it. What does your listview look like? If you'd like, post your listview properties and I can try to compare them to the one I'm using.

Hello-
I am trying to determine the index number of an item being hovered over in a combobox. So, as the
mouse moves over each item in the combobox, I determine that items index. Does anyone have a way of accomplishing this ?
I appreciate your help

Could you use the 'mouseover' event or the 'selectedindexchanged' event and then just make a variable = to the combobox.selectedindex?

I’m creating a network application which consists of a server and client-both windows applications, for each client that connects to the server the server will create a thread to handle that clients requests. One of the features will need to have very accurate and fast transfers between the client and server, which means that the server will need to run very efficiently, since I don’t want to restrict the server to run on dedicated hardware I was thinking of making the priority higher, which brings me to my question:
Should I set each thread that handles a client to a higher priority, or should I set the process from the server application to a higher priority. And will I achieve better performance if I set both to a higher priority or setting one to high is the same as setting both (in other words, does windows have 5 levels of priority or 25 (5x5) levels of priority? )
Answers to any part of this post will be greatly appreciated.

I think it would depend on what else is going happening on the server. if you don't have a lot of activity i would leave the priority where it is. i built an application that handles threads like you have for developers to "bounce" IIS when there is a vb6 dll that has to be replaced. I also through in IM and Chat for some extra features. I have never noticed any slowness no matter how much activity my server piece is getting and each response is close to immediate.

Hi,
I have a very large database and some rtf files near about 600MB all total.
Now I want to make setup in VB.Net. Setup completed successfully but it will take so much time at the time of installation at different positions like.
1. Preparing to Install ....... It takes a lot of time
2. After clicking Next Button .......... It takes a lot of time
If any one some idea or any third party tool, please reply me soon.
Thanks,

The setup files made with Visual Studio are always really slow. I would suggest using a stand alone install creator, like: Install Creator (simple) or NSIS (advanced). These are always faster and more customizable.

Hi!
i am using classic asp and access database to develop this few pages.
i have one form where user says registers and says ok send me the survey form after 1 month as an email. so i need to send an email that contains this survey form as an email.
when user fills the first form(i call it registration form) i am taking a time stamp when the survey was filled now i got in problem how to initialize sendmail object based on the timestamp+1month for each user.
please help just an idea will be great.
thanks

How does the timestamp relate to the sendmail object? Please explain...
|
|

To be honest this is what i have to do but i dont know how can i relate timestamp with sendmail object. Here is what i have to do and what i have done so far.
have a registration page where user enters their details and i capture details and store in access database. along with the details they enter i capture
1. date of the registration,
2. date of registration+1month,
3. date of registration+1month+1week
which are also going to the database. when the 2. in database for particular user reaches today's date, I need to send him an email which will have a link to survey page. for user ID 15 i will have sumthing like
www.mywebsite.com/survey.asp?ID=15 if user clicks this link i have to delete the value of No. 3 above so that user wont get this email again after 1 week.
If user clicks the link within 1 week then i dont have to send the link again after 1 week.
hope its all clear now i just need to find a way out how to send this email automatically via access database or have some trigger mechanism
please help

|
|

|
you can write a program and run it under a scheduled task checking the date in the record and if it matches today send an email.

I have a datatable which I would like to be able to set
properties for each column to display as a gridview. I
am creating a boundfield or checkboxfield etc.. for
each column. These fields are set to have have there
datafields from the datatable. Trouble is when i bind
the datatable to the gridview I end up with boundfield
version of the column and the original.
How can I only show the boundfields or whatever?
Hope this makes sense. I am still very new to asp.net
I will include my code incase it helps.
Public Function buildGrid(ByVal DS As DataSet, ByVal ChartDetails As DataTable, ByVal GridID As Integer, ByVal TableId As Integer) As GridView
Dim Grid As New GridView
Dim oTemp As Object
Dim oboundCol As BoundField
'Declare and fill dataview
Dim dv As DataView
dv = New DataView
dv.Table = ChartDetails
Dim ColumnID As Integer
Dim DataGrid As New DataTable
DataGrid = DS.Tables(TableId - 1).Copy
dv.Sort = "ColumnID ASC"
Dim ods As New ObjectDataSource
Dim ColCount As Integer = 0
While ColCount < DataGrid.Columns.Count
ColumnID = ColCount + 1
dv.RowFilter = "ColumnID = '" & ColumnID & "' AND GridID = '" & GridID & "'"
dv.RowStateFilter = DataViewRowState.CurrentRows
oboundCol = New BoundField
If dv.Count > 0 Then
oboundCol.DataField = DataGrid.Columns(ColCount).ColumnName.ToString
oTemp = New Object
oTemp = oboundCol
oTemp.HeaderText = dv.Item(0).Row.Item("Name")
oTemp.ItemStyle.HorizontalAlign = HorizontalAlign.Left
Else
oboundCol.DataField = DataGrid.Columns(ColCount).ColumnName.ToString
oTemp = oboundCol
End If
Grid.Columns.Add(oTemp)
ColCount = ColCount + 1
End While
Grid.DataSource = DataGrid
Grid.DataBind()
Return Grid
End Function

I am confused!
I went through the process of creating a query, using the "Build a Program Now!" book - step-by-step and it appeared to be accepted. However, it produced a NULL result, even though the data is there with the sessionID number or two that I tested.
My code:
SELECT wsName 'a String<br />
FROM WordSurvey 'the Table Name<br />
WHERE (sessionID=@sessionID) 'Int32 number<br />
I also get a warning:
"The new command text returns data with schema different from the schema of the main query. Check your query's command test if this is not desired."
And the SQL icon in the TableAdapter is not ticked like the "normal" one above it.
Why I am confused is that I loaded the "BAPN!" solution and tried generating a similar Select - and it worked fine!
I can only conclude that I am following the right process but there must be something wrong with the Table set-up. The Table seems to be OK and data is being accepted. The TableAdapter has been set up to provide the normal basic Fill/Get and that has worked for obtaining output. It is just this new query that is a problem.
Can anyone throw any clues, please?
All help gratefully received!

Are you connecting to a database which contains a table called WordSurvey ? And are you sure you're passing in a sessionID that is in the table ? I presume the table contains a column called wsName, which contains data ( it could be null )

Hi,
Thanks for your response.
Yes: the Table is WordSurvey.
Yes: sessionID column is in the same Table
Yes: wsName column is also in the same Table. Yes, it can be Null.
The test data I have entered is across two sessionID s and in the DataGrid, the above two coumns are there and populated. In fact, I have a Form with a ListBox that correctly lists all wsNames.
I want to list only the wsNames relating to one Session, so that they can be selected and displayed. Hence the SQL Query.
I hope that gives you more clues to assist me!

a splash screen or welcome screen should come up as the project is loading on running the EXE file.
experienced VB developers might know the solution to this in vb.net
