Hi there,
You might want to check out the ContentEncoding and HeaderEncoding properties of the Response object, for more details see HttpResponse Members [^]. Normally, you can use the globalization setting entry in the web.config file to set for all web pages.

Server controls have a Visible property. If set to false they will not be rendered in the page. Use that.

Hi,
My application module has 3 reports: rptByName, rptByCity, rptByArea.
Each report has the same dataset; however, each report is sorted according to Name, City, or Area.
I have a "generate report" button that displays the report according to the user selection from a "Sort by:" listbox.
This is the code for the button_click event:
If sortOptionsList.SelectedValue = "Area" Then
ReportViewer2.LocalReport.ReportPath = rptByArea
ElseIf sortOptionsList.SelectedValue = "LastName" Then
ReportViewer2.LocalReport.ReportPath = rptByName
ElseIf sortOptionsList.SelectedValue = "City" Then
ReportViewer2.LocalReport.ReportPath = rptByCity
End If
ReportViewer2.LocalReport.Refresh()
However, once any report is opened, that report stays on the report viewer.
So, how can I fix this? Also, is there a way that I could use only one report but programatically change the sort value?
The reports are being run locally, BTW.
Thanks

Hello,
I have a master page where my form has the Runat="server".
The master page as a control place holder, named "cphContent".
Then in a page which inherits from the master page I added a custom control which I created.
This custom control is added to "cphContent" at runtime.
The custom control creates and adds 2 textboxes using CreateChildControls.
I am getting an error:
System.Web.HttpException: Control 'ctl00_cphContent_by27cf_tbName' of type 'TextBox' must be placed inside a form tag with runat=server.
I have no idea why do I get this error.
The form with Runat="server" is in the master page.
Anyway, can someone tell me how can I figure what is going on?
Thanks,
Miguel

The problem is that the dynamically created control is placed outside of the form. This happens in some situations, that's why you should place your dynamically created controls into a placeholder control.
Simply add that and ad the controls at runtime into the placeholder.

Hi
I have a webservice which is residing on my machine. I am trying to access it via a proxy method from my windows form.
SoapEnvelope en = base.SendRequestResponse("LogEntry", SoapEnvelope sen);
This line is throwing an exception InnerException {"The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized."} System.Exception {System.Net.WebException}.
Any ideas on why I am getting this error when the webservice is local to my machine?
Thanks
Minu

The Unlock User Program I have created works perfectly as a HTA. The only problem with this approach is that I have to install the scripts and the HTA on the office managers PC so that they are able to remotly unlock their employees. Is it possible to convert the HTA into an ASP.Net page that would run on our internal webserver so that the files could all be located on the server and not on the office managers PC?
Thanks,
Zach

Hi..
I am working with a programming team. We are trying to make a shopping cart for a big company.We want to use some kind of ID for each shopping cart (for each customer) We want this ID to be unique and to be as small as possible.For this reason We don't want to use GUID or even SessionID because they are 16,32(as I remember) byte long.So is there any other choice that has a small size of data?.Please help..Any suggestion could be helpful.

Why would the size really matter for an internal ID? I would use GUIDs to guarantee uniqueness with minimum processing. Your other options are DBs, but then you might have concurrency issues.

Thank you for responding to me...
You said :"Your other options are DBs"
May you explain to me What do you mean and how?
Hope to continue this conversation with you and our friends in the forum who like to help.

just as a way of doing it, you can create a database table with one identity coloumn, and another column to hold the sessionid. When a cart is created, add a record to the table, and retrieve the newly created ID. Everytime the the database is updated, you will get a new id.
You may want to also create a service that will remove the dead items where a session is terminated.

Hi
I currently have a web application that presents a user with a username and password box (text boxes) - once the user registers their password is encrypted and stored in a database.
My question is this - the password is sent from their machine to the server in plain text. Is there a simple way of encrypting the form without using javascript to make it more difficult for their password to be seen across the internet/network
Also are there basic security issues i should look into or does any one have any resources/links that will help me make a secure site.
Thanks and sorry for the general nature of the problem
Dan.

There are methods to encrypt strings in .Net. Use the following article as base,

Try using MD5 as the encryption on the client side. You can change the password using the javascript code at http://pajhome.org.uk/crypt/md5/">http://pajhome.org.uk/crypt/md5.
The tricky part is to use a unique "salt" value that is created when the page is created and used as part of the submit process. The stored password is encrypted with the same salt value on the server side and the value is compared with the calculated value from the client. I have used a date stamp like yymmddHHmmssfff or something like that to calc the salt value.
Hope this helps.

I developped an ASP.net application using MODI (Microsoft Office Document Imaging) componenet. In this application I use OCR function from MODI to OCR a tif file. It worked fine in the development environment.
I installed Office 2003 in the web server, I added ASPNet account to the Common files folder and Microsoft Office folder. It still gives me the following error whn the application tried to OCR the tif file
"System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: File is empty or corrupted"
Any body with similar experience?
Please help!

Are you sure the exception is access? It may be another type of exception where the directory doesn't have write permissions, etc.

On Button Postback an Aspx Page runs the following onclick C# event handler:
{
..
// dr[“Content”] - DataRow Item type byte[] where is a song in mp3 format
ar = dr[“Content”];
Response.ContentType=“audio/mpeg”;
Response.Clear();
Response.BufferOutput = true;
Response.BinaryWrite(ar);
Response.Flush();
}
I received error in Response.Flush() – The remote host closed the connection.(HttpException).
If I use Response.End() in place of Response.Flush() receive WMPlayer(on the Client) error about there is not codecs for playing sending stream. It possible that sending stream from ASP.Net Page is wrong because on client PC mp3 codecs are installed.
I try to use Response.WriteFile(filename) instead of Response.BinaryWrite(ar) and received the same errors.
Note : I see after Response.BinaryWrite(ar) line , in debugger, Response.OutputStream.Length property is showing a SystemNotSupportedException.
My question:
Can Asp.Net Page send audio to client as other binary content “application/pdf”,”image/gif”, i.e ?
Please help me,
Thanks

The global.asax file in Web App is:
<%@ Application Language="C#" %>
public void Session_Start(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
// Code that runs when a new session is started
}
public void Session_End(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
// Code that runs when a session ends.
}
and mode attribute is set to InProc for SessionState element in Web.config file, and State Management configuration for Asp.Net Site in IIS 6.0 is mode = IProc and Cookieless mode = UsesCookies. The Client is Internet Explorer 6.0.
The Session_Star fires but Session_End does not. Why?
