If your batch file starts an interactive process, it's looking for user input, you'll never see it in the default configuration for a Windows Service. All Windows Services, by default, run under a seperate (non-visible) desktop. In order for a service to be able to interact with the visible desktop, you have to go into the Services manager (Start/Run SERVICES.MSC), find your service, get properties on it, then go to the LogOn tab and enable the "Local System account" login, then enable "Allow service to interact with the desktop".

I am using Windows XP SP2, and working on MS VS .NET 2005.
My application was working fine till I installed few windows updates. Now on compilation I get an error message - ""LC.exe" exited with code -1073741819."
Someone told me that this could OS bit problem. I checked in My Computer->properties ->advanced->environment variables ->system variables->Processor_Architecture which states x86 over there.
I am not able to compile my applications due to this problem. The application was working normaly. I think the software updates caused this problem, I even uninstalled the updates but then nothing helped. I am stuck on this.
Someone please help. Highly urgent.
…
Thanks,
RajKat

The best thing to do when you get a 'highly urgent' problem is to use google, especially a problem like this where you can google the error text.
Does your app have a lic.text file ?

Hey Chris,
I found resolution to the problem, it was not any license expiry issue. It was actually a spyware named Hexadoor which came into my machine from somewhere and that spyware actually does not let .NET to compile.
Anyone facing this problem may run antispyware - lavasoft ad-aware or pandasoftware to detect and remove it.
Thanks,

help....
I have a reporting aspect to my online application and I'm trying to set it up so that I make an asychronous call to a GetData type subroutine, and paste the data returned by this into a datagridview. Ive defined a report class which goes off getting tabulated data, which I have also defined in a class, and it works when i call the routine and wait for a return, but using asynchronous methods I keep getting the message that i cannot parent a control to a thread it was not created on...
i don't understand why this is. The data class is not a control, my datagrid is on the calling thread, but when I try to paste data into it from another thread it seems to cause problems. Am I barking up the wrong tree completely? Is there a workaround for this or will i have to stick to a crappy, non-responsive UI while the report runs?
Really sweating this. Rolling out in a couple of days, and it needs to be good!!!

|
|
|
If you use the BackgroundWorker class, you can pass data back to the main thread.
But, how will it be more responsive ? If it's a web page, it's waiting for a refresh anyhow, right ?

Sorry mate, misuse of the word Online there. I come from a mainframe background, and I still use some of thse legacy terms, e.g. Online as opposed to batch processing.
The problem I have is that, well, since yesterday when I posted I've managed to get the control updating to the screen, but it becomes unresponsive, when i click it the entire app just hangs, in Task manager, it waits for about 5 secs then generates another process sing the applicatin's title, but running EXPLORER.EXE. All of this suggests to me that I'm screwing with something fundamental. I may roll back to an earlier version which didn't (try to) implement multithreading....

I created a Windows Controls Library project so that I could create my own modified version of a combobox. When I began the new project VB starts you out with a region to put your controls in. I drop a combobox in there and resized the region to be the same size as the combobox. When I tried using it in a new Windows project the right side of the combo is cut off. If I make that region a little bigger it shows up as being part of the combobox. Can you make this region invisible or keep it from interfering?
|
|
|
|
|
Try using the DockStyle property of the combobox control. You can either set it in the properties window of your custom control or do it in code (e.g. Combobox1.DockStyle = DockStyle.Top )
|
|
|
|
|
Thanks. That worked. But also, while in the designer, if I click on the combobox I frequently cause VB to abnormally shut down. Why does this happen?

I'm not sure, it could be a bug in your copy of VS or perhaps your machine is screwing up somehow, or it may even be (tho I doubt it) your code.
Quite honestly, I have no idea.

Something else to consider: if you're only using a single combo box for your control, you should look into inheriting the Windows.Forms.ComboBox. This will solve your display issues. You can get started very easily by pasting this class declaration into a new Class file, overwriting the default text:
Public Class MyCustomCombo<br />
Inherits System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox<br />
<br />
End Class
Mind you, programming an inherited control can be tricky, but the rewards are worth it.

You read my mind but I was thinking it might be a bit too tricky for him considering he's still getting to grips with custom control authoring.

I agree, but I wanted to throw it out there. It's certainly worth spending a half hour with google over.

Save the number with the date where your app can access it (textfile, registry, app.config, etc.), convert it to integer and then add 1 to it. When the app starts it compares the date and value from the stored value & increments.

Hi,
You can actually create a windows service with filesystemwatcher, which keeps watching the creation of any new text files.
The code within the windows service looks something similar to the below:
Protected Overrides Sub OnStart(ByVal args() As String)
InitializeEventLog()
InitializeFileWatcher()
InitializeMailServer()
End Sub
In the InitializeFileWatcher, specify the ftp folder path and add an event handler,
Private Sub InitializeFileWatcher()
fsWatcher = New FileSystemWatcher
fsWatcher.Path = "\\FTP\Folder\*.txt"
fsWatcher.NotifyFilter = (NotifyFilters.DirectoryName Or NotifyFilters.FileName)
fsWatcher.IncludeSubdirectories = True
'watcher.NotifyFilter = NotifyFilters.FileName
'watcher.NotifyFilter = NotifyFilters.DirectoryName
' Only watch text files.
fsWatcher.Filter = "*.txt"
' Add event handlers.
AddHandler fsWatcher.Created, AddressOf OnTextFileCreated
' Begin watching.
fsWatcher.EnableRaisingEvents = True
End Sub
so, in the OnTextFileCreated sub procedure, load the data from text file to the local server
Private Sub OnTextFileCreated(ByVal source As Object, ByVal e As FileSystemEventArgs)
'Code for loading text data to local server-database
End Sub
So, whenever there are new text files created in the specified FTP folder, the event is raised and the text file data is loaded to the server.

hi
i want to copy data of one table to another table
and get backup from database
my database is access
i dont find any sample about it
please help me
|
|
|
|
|
Do you want to copy data to another table inside the existing database or back it up to a separate database? Are you simply going to append the data to a table whose structure has been defined in a prebuilt database or do you need to create the database and it's tables from scratch?
More info needed before we can help.
