Typically, as long as it has compatible speeds and timings, you should be fine. Even in systems with generic memory modules, however, you get some dud chips or modules - where the data written isn't stored correctly - which the manufacturer's tests don't always pick up when they're tested in isolation.
After installing new RAM, I therefore normally run a RAM test. You can use memtest86[^], memtest86+[^], or Microsoft's Windows Memory Diagnostic[^]. Run them for as long as you think necessary, but probably for at least an hour (a couple of passes). Leaving it overnight will probably be enough for any problems to show up - I had to limit our DC testing to an hour because it needed to go back into service, but since this is your laptop, you can probably spare more time.

Thank you very much for your comment. Which tool is better to use. In my opinion, I prefer Windows Memory Diagnostic. If an error found, could this tool solve the problem for me or just identify the problem only.

They're all good for testing RAM. All they do is excersize memory, using various patterns and methods, over and over again, making sure that what was read from each location was what was written to it. None of them are any better or any worse than the others.
If a problem is found, the only thing you can do is replace the bad RAM module. No piece of software can ever fix a failed piece of hardware like that.

There is one thing that should be mentioned in this thread:
None of the Software-RAM-Tests is 100% accurate. That is mainly because the modules are not "either working or not working" but also sometimes "kinda working" and there is no way to tell that by a fast check.
There is dedicated RAM-Test-Hardware for professional use, but that comes at a (very) high price (up to several million $US). A test in one of these stations is definitely more reliable, but still there is no guarantee on accuracy more than 99.999%.
Depending on the tool you are using (software or hardware) and the size of the memory module you are testing, a complete cycle for one module might take up to a week to complete.
There is one other thing you need to be aware of, if you are testing your module with a software-tester: You should reset your BIOS-settings to "fail-safe" or the lowest possible setting, or you might accidentally create "false positives", i.e. determine a module to be faulty when it is, in fact, OK.

I have check the Microsoft Website[^] for Windows Memory Dioanostic tool and I found in the Sample run time section that 1Gb RAM just spend around 8 Minute. But why you mention to leave it over night?

I figure that the longer you run the tests, the more times any given byte is written to, the more likely it is that any errors will show up. It is also more likely to show up any problems which occur when the system is fully up to normal running temperature.

I have 30 email addresses from the same business domain. The only change is the word infront of the @.
I would like to still receive them all in my same inbox BUT when I reply to them the email address they get sent from matches the acount it was sent by me. So if I sent the email to my client doodle@doodle.net and they reply, doodle@doodle.net would show under accounts in outlook express.
What I need to do is when I click reply to then the email addres that the email is being sent from is doodle@doodle.net
At present it replies to one of the 20 email addresses that I sent the email from which is proving to be a real pain.
I would be eternally grateful for assistance.

Does anyone know what is the error message given by the Windows Installer in the case that the version of Installer on the system is too old for the MSI package you are trying to install?

Just a dialog with the above or a similar message the message can vary depending upon what utility was used to create the MSI or if the message was customized.

It doesn't vary to often but there were some differences in various versions of the authoring utilities. You probably would not see this unless you compared older MSI's with some newer ones and you actually had an error. I guess if you are getting an error this might be an older MSI, Oh well nuff said on this topic

Anyone else run into this situation?
Developing apps in VS 2005 using ClickOnce Deployment.
PCs have Proventia software installed (Firewall, virus program) which
is preventing the apps from installing. My co-worker tried to install by using the setup.exe program and by .msi program but to no avail.
This app is preventing ClickOnce from executing the Install program to run to completion.
Any work arounds or solutions?

In my opinion, you should check the configuration on Proventia software.

You are correct, its just that our Deployment Department is handling the testing of this software and they will have to configure the software accordingly. They are aware of the issue with ClickOnce, they will have to come up will solutions or work-arounds.
I was just curious if anyone else had the same issue.

Are you asking how to log the server back in with a specific account automatically??
You can learn more about setting up automatic logon with a little Googling - "windows server 2003 automatic logon[^]".
And noone here is going to write the script for you. This isn't Rent-A-Coder...

Error : Log onto incoming mail Server (pop3) Unable to logon to the incoming mail server (POP3) please verify the settings in the user Name, Password and Email fields. [:wft: I've given the right username and password but why it doesn't work?]

I already *Enabled* pop feature for my account in www.gmail.com!!

Oops, one error is solved. actually I didn't click on "Save settings" in gmail after I enabled POP.
But still I'm not able to send a test mail. It simply says,

Btw, I'm able to receive mails.

Hi all =)
I've got windows XP pro but now it won't boot. Better, the system boots, but nothing works. I get a gray screen an can only run applications through the process manager. Explorer.exe won't start, i've run norton internet security (fully updated) but it finds nothing (although it's highly likely it is a virus), i've tryied restoring the system but nothing happned..
Any sugestions ?
