I honestly don't really know what has gone wrong here but when I do a search on the help system from within .NET, the hits that come back are all titled 'a'.
Is there a command or something that can rebuild the help system or do I have to reinstall the 1.7GB again
Regards,
Geoff Davis

Don't know the answer, but did you found the installation process went smooth and easy, working from the first time ?

Hi Chaps
Little problem but its simple:-
Is there a way of deploying and creating web services without being a local administrator because our ITS department are a bit of a control freaks
and hey are 'unhappy' about us being local admins of our own pcs?
Is there anyone else out there who has to put up with this or is it just our company that contains these types of people?

I hope anybody here can help me out.
I've just installed visual studio.Net on my Window 2000 Pro computer. VS.Net launched fine. However, when I tried to new a asp.Net web application, the IDE can create the project but without any .aspx or .cs files. It came up with the error message - "Automation sever can't create object". The same error message came up wherenever I tried to create a web form, web service, class, component class, dataform wizard, data set or web user control. However, it could create static HTML page, XML file, style sheet etc. It seems that some OLE objects did not function properly. I don't know how to fix it.
Could anybody help me please?
My system configuration: visual studio.Net Enterprise Architech, Win2K Professional SP2
Hardware: PIII 1G, 512MB
Thank you.
David

Besides, I have removed VS.NET and reinstalled it twice but the problem doesn't go away.
Thanks first.

Is it possible that an antivirus app is blocking a script from running?

Hi,
I've heard rumors about how if you install the .NET Framework on a computer running a production website, it will overwrite ADO 2.6 with 2.7, and existing COM apps that use databases on that computer will break.
Even worse, I've heard that if you install the .NET Framework on a development computer, you can no longer compile ADO 2.6 based COM software that will run on a computer with ADO 2.6.
Is there any truth to these rumors (or some parts of them)? Are there any workarounds to these problems?
Thanks.

I also heard you can catch things from doorknobs.
I have installed .NET Framework on three systems so far and haven't found any problems. Although it is possible for some apps to be broken after the install, it is more a case of poor coding rather than the Framework causing the problem.

I have had experienced something similiar. I have a VC6 app which uses #import on the ADO msado15.dll and msadox.dll. I installed VC7 on my machine. When I recompiled my app on VC6 and ran it on machines that didn't have MDAC 2.7 installed, the app failed.
Installing MDAC 2.7 resolved the problem. It did catch me by surprise and had to spend a couple of hours installing MDAC 2.7 on people's machines.
It wasn't a big problem for me as I could install 2.7, I can see it might haved caused issues if I'd had a stricter IT manager.

Hi all,
I program in C++/MFC and I am used to making programs and people simply take them and run them on their machines. I heard about the .NET and how things are different and I heard also about the Visual Studio .NET and the .NET framework but I don't know exactly how this these both are related to each other. Do we install the framework on clients? Does anything go on the servers for stuff that we write for .NET to work. I am all confused and I did not see any article so far that tells me what I want;) .
Please help me. Also, when we buy the VS .NET, does it come with VB, VC++ and C#? or do we have to buy the languages separatly?
Thanks a lot in advance ...
Fathi

If you use C++/MFC you don't need to do that, but if you use C# or VB.NET you have to do it.

If you buy 'Enterprise Architect' edition, then you have all of those language. VS.NET means all of them.

Thanks Mazy,
How big of an installation is the Framework?
Can it go on all windows platforms? 98,NT,Y2k and XP.
Is there any software that we need to go on the servers, I mean something that we need to put with
the IIS for things to work.
Thanks again

Yes,but on win98 you can't develope applications..you can only run your softwares.

No,IIS is enough for it.
