Hi
I have a ASP .NET 2.0 website so it has no namespaces etc like 1.x used to and all my classes are in different folders under the App_Code folder.
If i wanted to access these from another project in the solution how do i refer to them as I have no idea what name space they are under!
thanks.

Good question raised. I have the same problem.
thanks in advance. Much appreciated.

You may consider refactoring this code into a shared library so that you can reuse in multiple projects as the App_Code folder should only serves the current project.

Hi all,
I am doing my Master's in Computing and Information Science. For my MS I need to do two projects. One related to web as a course so I am planning to do a project in ASP.NET 2.0 using C# or VB.net and other singletone C# or VB.net as Masters project. But I am thinking either to implement one means if I created web using C# then my master's project will be in VB.net or vice versa. I am new to the .net technology but I do have enough time to learn the technology and to code. About creating web site requirements are like database backend, high performance and not regarding online shopping as all other students did that. And for Masters req. project I am free to choose any topic. So I was just wondering can anyone please help me to finalizing the project topics specially for Masters. I dont want the code but a good project topic so that I can learn .net as well as it will be a good impression on my resume to get a job. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank You.

Hi, I am fairly new to asp.net. I am trying to design a web page in asp.net to run on a corporate intranet that will check for the existance of several files on a clients machine. I dont need to copy / delete / move the file - just check if they are present or not. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for a solution to this problem ?

If this is the intranet application, you may consider using the FileSystemObject[^] with the FileExists method. It also may requires you to configure the security level in the client browser to avoid the security error.
|
|
|
|
|
you can use javascript FileSystemObject or C# code using System.IO check file use File.Exists(filePath) method,but you must let client browser allow ,you can set client browser add you websit into trustiness websit list.
it's simple settings.

Hi,
Can any one help me to hide and unhide data in a column(ItemTemplate or BoundColumn). I know how to hide (using style, overflow, hidden process). I would need solution, specifically, to unhide data that has been hidden with the above way.
For example, I have 200 characters length data that need to be displayed in a column. I am displaying only 10 characters by hiding the rest in one situation. In another situation, I need to display all 200 character long data.
Any soon help would be great.
Thanks for your help...

IMO, the simple way is to cut off the string with the SubString method whenever you want to display data in short.

I'm pretty new to asp and was asked this question:
Is it mroe efficient to declare variables in asp?
Anyone able to shed a bit of light on the subject please
|
|
|
|
|
How are you declaring them?
Also I have a question to add, I want to declare (and set values to) a bunch of variables in a separate file. I use "Imports classname" and in the class I declare them using "Public Shared variable" and "variable = value". Anyone have a better idea/way?

Problem is, this is comming from an exam question, so I do not know how they are being declared. Plus, I'm comming from a C++ environment and have never really used asp before now.

Hi everyone!
I'm fairly new in ASP.NET and I'm having trouble understanding how to set up forms authentication in my ASP.NET 2.0 web-application using user information from an existing database.
There's nothing wrong with the current forms authentication using the default SQL database aspnetdb.mdf , but since this application is already using another SQL database with the company staff information (among other stuff) which is updated continuously, i.e., creating/deleting "users", it would be redundant.
From what I got to understand so far, that is possible, though I don't understand if I:
- can reuse the existing login/authentication controls/pages;
- can set up the application to use the DB without using the aspnet_regsql.exe tool;
- should make changes to machine.config or web.config , and what changes to make, etc;
Though I searched the web, I couldn't find the answers.
Your assistance would be appreciated.

+ If you want to simply reuse the default db schema used by the default ASP.NET providers in your existing Db, you can run the aspnet_regsql tool against your database.
+ If you want to use your own custom db schema with the supported services like membership ..., you will need to implement custom providers, then configure in the web.config file, and you can use the built-in controls such as Login controls as well as the other services.
For more information, see ASP.NET Provider Model[^]

Hi, I am the new member of this site. Here is my question.
How to set the time for the images that are displayed on the AdRotator.
Madhavi

Hi there. The AdRotator control doesn't really work that way - it selects a picture to display from your advertisements.xml file and doesn't apply a timer. A refresh on the page from the browser would allow AdRotator to potentially select a different, random picture.
But I suppose if you really needed a timer-based swap of images, you could use an AdRotator in an Atlas UpdatePanel. Atlas is Microsoft's AJAX implementation for ASP.NET.

I'm using DetailsView and ObjectDataSource, and I'm very happy with this combination. But I have one problem... Let's say what my BLL object has a method called Insert, and this method thrown on Exception (like duplicate keys, etc). How I get this error in my Asp.Net page? Who call the Insert method is the Asp.Net via reflection, and give not chance to me protect inside a try-catch... has no event handlers like "OnError" neither in DetailsView, neither in ObjectDataSource ....
Then, what the method recommended? Someone has a idea?

You can create a handler for the Inserted event of the ObjectDataSource and check the e.Exception of the event data (ObjectDataSourceStatusEventArgs ) to see if there is any exception thrown by the insert method. You can do the same thing with the ItemInserted of the DetailsView control.

Nice! Thank you very much!

Just one observation: This isn't intuitive... the Inserted event, in theory, is raised only if one item was inserted, i.e., has not exceptions...
Appears a bad design from Microsoft
