Thank You. My further query is that in my application code, the two memory buffers i.e the source buffer and destination buffer have some virtual addresses. To do DMA, I need the physical address of these buffers. How do I map virtual address to the physical address to initiate DMA?

You can create another application with a timer implemented to launch your program every 2 hours.

Well, that's slightly different than just running at startup.
For periodic scheduling, you will want to use the "Scheduled Tasks" in Control Panel.
Go to Control Panel, start scheduled tasks, add your application as a task, select to run it when your computer starts, Enter the credentials you want it to run as, choose "Open Advanced Properties for this task when I click finish", click the "Schedule" tab, check "Show Multiple schedules", click "New", click "Advanced", check "Repeat Task", and configure it for every X minutes, etc...

I'm not sure if I'm answering your question. I guess you might want what Weiye Chen suggested and create an application that uses a timer to run something every 2 hours.
To start this first app, put the path in the registry key mentioned earlier. you can set this key using your .msi or whatever installation technique you use when distributing you apps.

im making a scrolling text class and what i cant figure out is
::SetWindowPos(m_move.GetSafeHwnd(), wndTop, count, 15, (m_Stext.GetLength() * 6), 13, SWP_NOZORDER); i cant figure out how to get the handle for the control variable of the static text like m_move.GetSafeHwnd() and make it work in my class any and all help is needed. cuz im 
and i need to know how to find out how long the text is thats scrolling right now i use (m_Stext.GetLength() * 6) but the longer the text it the more extra space it adds at the end.

Your static control cannot have the id IDC_STATIC. Change that to whatever other value.

In the CDC class there is a GetTextExtent() metod you can use. To get the dc: CClientDC dc(this); and then dc.GetTextExtent(..)

I am wondering, if I use String.Substring does it extracts a portion of a string? Basicly, does visual C++ is supportString.Substring. I know we can use String::Substring but I am not sure about String.Substring . Does any one know?

Hi all,
i'm doing some test with VS2005 and I'm wondering if there's any control or view that permits to create a dialog with the look and feel like the windows explorer. I mean the left side blue menu that it's like (or it's) DHTML. I don't know if the only way to do that is with the CHtmlView / CHtmlCtrl but maybe the .Net has a control to do that.

hello I need to write a device driver for serial port, using which I want to handle the serial communication interrupt based and also wanna do serial hooking and get the simple text that is sent and received throught the serial port . but the problem is "I know nothing about system programming and device driver writing" have been studying alot searching on net and also msdn , but all that I know is that we have to write DriverEntry() and some other functions. sooooooooooo plzzzzzzzzzzz help me its an assignment given to me and I must do it but cant find how to do this

Driver development is complex and totally different to writing a user mode application. I suggest you get a good text book and start reading.

Here's an example:
void SetRect(CRect& rect);<br />
void SetRect(int top, int left, int bottom, int right);<br />
Adding this:
void SetRect(int top, int left, int width, int height);<br />
would be invalid, because a method with (int, int, int, int) already exists above.
Does that help at all?

Thanks, but I am still confuse. You mean I should only use the first line:
void SetRect(CRect& rect); and I can exclude the second line.
Could this be an example overloading:
int foo1(int number);
int foo2(int number);
if is not, how can I make it to be a method overloading type?

In my example, I overloaded the SetRect function to accept different types of parameters, but both methods accomplishes the same thing.
So you could use either method, depending on what you need to do.
CRect rc(10, 10, 100, 50);<br />
SetRect(rc);<br />
<br />
- or -<br />
<br />
SetRect(10, 10, 100, 50);
In your example, it is not overloading, since the function names are different (foo1 and foo2)
An example of overloading using your methods would be:
int foo1(int number);<br />
int foo1(float number);<br />
Another note: you CANNOT change the type of the return value.
int foo1(int number);<br />
float foo1(int number);
