I think the title says it all. I have been very successful playing around with an ajax sample to get it to retrieve a string from a web service, but i cant seem to figure out how to pass a variable to the web service, which would obviously limit it's usefulness.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Browse to the web service, and it should show you an example of how the input should look like. At least if it was developed using .NET.

If you're using pure Javascript, then it ain't no fun...you'll need to look at the WSDL to see what parameters etc are used.
There is somewhere on CP a js class that abstracts out the difficult bits, and just allows you to call a asmx from JS without much difficulty. Can't remember where though!

Hi
I have been asked to monitor what websites employees in my company visit during work hours.
I had a program that I found from The Code Project, but it no longer seems to be working when used on one of the PCs, I need to be able to view the results as a web page.
Can anyone suggest anything that could work?

Hi.
I have a web service that needs to replace files. However, when I do this an Unauthorized exception is thrown.
I can't figure out how to do this. I'm running the client program and the service on the same computer.

Here is a small test for all those hardcore JavaScript programmers. Is it possible to drag'n'drop a text/image element (eg. A or IMG tag) from one (I)FRAME to another (I)FRAME. This is easy & possible with IE's proprietary ondrag events. However the question is, is there a work-around using standard W3C/Firefox onmousedown, onmouseup, etc. events only?

Have you used Google's personalized homepage? You can drag and drop on that page to move around your modules as ou wish. I've always meant to View Source and see if they used javascript or what...you might check it out and see how they did it...

So it's official, Mozilla Firefox cannot and will never be able to do drag'n'drop across (I)FRAMEs - just like MS IE. Drag'n'drop ability is a must for Web Applications that want to be similar to native Windows Applications based on Multiple-Document Interface and letting users drag'n'drop from one child window to another.

I bet this can happen with AJAX. I haven't devled into the AJAX world yet but I plan too soon. As far as I can tell, AJAX allows desktop-like interfaces in web applications.

I have a calendar and when i click the week number the whole week should be selected and also when i click the month the whole month should be selected and the month scheduler should come up while the day and the week scheduler greys out.Any one at a time like the google calendar.

Hi!
I'm calling a personal web service from a c# app and when the web service tries to save a file I get this exception:
'System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException' at system.web.services.dll
Additional info: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The server can't process the request. ---> System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access denied to the path.
The path that it tells me actually exists as is. I've tried to move it, change things in web.config (tried the "imperonate" option) but I can't make it work.
I'm actually accessing the web service on localhost and still crashes.
Need help, please.

It sounds like you have a permission issue.
Try giving a write permission to your ASPNET account (or whatever account you're running your web service as) on the folder you want to save the file to.

If you're using Windows as your OS you can open Windows Explorer, right-click on the folder you want to save the file and choose Properties. Go to the Security Tab, and then add ASPNET (or the account running your web service) and give it a Write permission.

If there's no security tab, under your Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options choose View Tab, and untick Use Simple File Sharing.
The Security Tab will then appear.

It is possible to simulate text input using Javascript.
You can use setTimeout('functionName()', timeInMillisecond); to introduce a delay in entering the text (call the function to write the text in a letter-by-letter basis, use counter).
To raise a button click event, you can use document.getElementById('buttonId').click();
If what you meant is to move the mouse cursor around then I don't think it can be done.

Well sorta...but not like you would in SDK...
You could in javascript, concatenate current text with the simulated character...
document.forms.myform.myinput.value+="a"
Something like that...as far as emulating an actual keystroke or sending a WM_KEYDOWN message to the window...I don't think so...
As for your other question...
Yes, Javascript has a click()
Something like:
document.forms.myform.mybutton.click()
This I eblieve fires the onclick handler for the given element
You could also submit a form using:
document.forms.myform.mybutton.submit()
This I believe fires the onsubmit() and sends the FORM to the URL set in the action attribute...
This code isn't tested and may be off (missing objects, etc) but you get the idea...

Hello
I have a webservice exposing various methods. I also have a win application (Click-once) that uses the webservice methods.
I would like to prevent any other access to the webservice so no other user\client can invoke the methods. I do not want to manualy check this on the server side but would more like to have a strong name signing between the webservice and the windows application.
Any one can help on this ?
