I am working on windows forms project and ran into a problem. I created 2 groupboxes on top of each other, A and B. When the page is loaded for the first time, A will be visible and B is invisible. Then when I click a button in A, A will be invisible and B will be visible. The problem is that B will not be visible after I click the button ( I have already set B.visible = true). I think A treats B as its child, so when A is invisible B is also invisible. The two group boxes need to be on top of each other, so the button will act like "Back" button in web browser.
Can anyone help me please ?

You might want to try calling the GroupBox B .BringToFront() method to get it to appear on top of A.

also ya if groupbox2 is a child of group 1 it will not work. try doing this
place groupbox1on the form place all the controls on it. then place groupbox2 on the form some where else place the controls on it. move it over the groupbox 1.
now in groupbox1 button write this
groupbox1.visible=false
groupbox2.visible=true
and in groupbox2 button write this
groupbox1.visible=true
groupbox2.visible=false
hopefully it will work

I have a main page shows all the results in the datagrid. and there is an Add button to pop up another form to add data to it. when I finish adding data and close the form, the main form database doesn't update the data has been added or edited. How can I ask the main form to reload the lastest data when the database has been changed? Is there any way to do it? Thanks!

You can add a "Reload" button or menu option and then write the code to query the database and reload your datagrid.

is the reload button has to be in the same form as the datagrid? can I ask the other form when the Add buton click, then to reload main form's datagrid? what's the code for the datagrid reload? is it datagril.reload()?

Sorry, I don't know that much about datagrids but I assume that when the datagrid first appears it is populated with the info from database as it is at that moment.
You didn't say whether you are using VB or VB.NET. For VB.NET if you want the updated information, you have to clear and fill the dataSet again in order for the new information to show up in the datagrid. Whether it would work from another form, you'll have to try it and see.
For VB I assume you would do whatever you did to populate the datagrid originally.

Hi all,
I'm posting on behalf of a colleague who's a bit stuck at the moment.
Working in VBA/VB.Net, he's saving an image with alpha info to a PNG via the Export function.
Problem is that the resulting PNG is still a bit big, and the Adobe SVG Viewer does not display it properly.
The solution is to have the PNG indexed with the transparency kept (it works from Photoshop). But he can't find a way of doing it in VB! And the frustrating part is that PowerPoint does it well with the 'save image as...' function.
Would anybody know how to do that, or where to look?

The last I heard, Indexed images were not support in the .NET Framework 1.0 and 1.1. This could be different in 2.0 though...

How do I remove a hyphen from a text?
I'm retrieving the value from a textbox. The value, for example is 567-343, how do I get rid of the hyphen? The trim("-") function doesn't work on this value.

Trim only removs the specific char from start and end of the string.In order to remove the char inbetween the string you can use split method or regular expression.I think in your case split method should be good enough.you can refer this code segment
Dim FinalString as String
Dim ActualString as String ="567-343"
Dim splitString() as String=ActualString.split
'this returns an array of String
Dim i as integer
For i=0 to SplitString.length-1
if not(SplitString(i)="-") then

Hi all!
I´m newbie using Vbasic. I need to make a macro for Excel, which
shows a form asking for a numeric value in a Textbox.
I convert the Textbox content to long with CLng() function.

longval=CLng(TheTextBox.Text)<br />
But this function crashes if the content of the textbox is alphanumeric.
How can I check that the value entered is only numeric?
Is there any function like "IsDigit" or something?
or
Is there any Textbox property to force only numeric content?

How can we go about creating a sleek GUI like those of Apple iTune player, QuickTIme Player, Media Player, RealPlayer etc with custom buttons, background shade etc ?
I certainly hope thats possible in VB6.

Possible, but not easy. You essentially have to create all the forms and custom controls from scratch, ownerdrawing nearly everything. Something VB6 doesn't lend itself to easily and you'll find less and less help for this project on the web.
It would be much easier to do in C++, C#, VB.NET, ...
