Standard compliance is definitely a more obvious reason...
VC6 compiler is full of crap. but VC2005 is more sticking to the standard than 2003 though (if you could choose between one or other).

thell him that it is important to stick to the C++ standard, so he'd better switch to VS2005, or at least VS2003.
what didn't you understand in my answer ?
oh, BTW, VC6 support has been abandonned by Microsoft last year...

What exactly does remove support mean? Does it mean that any problems with the compiler will not be dealt with or that any product written in VC++ 6.0 will not be recognized by microsoft?
Thanks for your answers

remove support mean that if you have a problem with VC6 and want to ask microsoft for that problem, they won't answer you...

Hi, you should consider moving to VC++ 7.X/8.0 because those are more compatible with the futures offered by Windows 2000/XP. Personaly, I like the themes from Windows XP and I'm wroting only theme-enabled WIN32 applications. Other reasons would be a better IDE and a better/faster C++ compiler etc.

So you mean, code will compile faster in VC++ 7.0 than in VC++ 6.0? Is the VC++ 7.0 compiler better than the VC++ 6.0 compiler?
Thanks for your help!

we cannot say that

yes
and even better, VC8 compiler is better than VC7.x

Oops... Sorry seems like I got on your nerves....

Thanks!
But even after all these answers, I still haven't got any solid answer to give my boss when he asks me why we should move to VC++ 7.0 or higher...
Thanks anyways...

Hi all,
I hv designed a page in html.and Iam working in MFC
Iam using CDHTMLViewSpec class.
I have designed 2 links in thml as follows
<table width="100%">
<tr width="100%">
<td width = "100%"><font size="2" face="Tahoma">
<a id="Previous" class="Title" href="Previous.htm">Previous</a></font>
</td>
<td ><font size="2" face="Tahoma">
<a id="Next" href="Next.htm">Next</a></font></td>
</tr>
</table>
as u can see they are anchor tags I want to know how to enable or disable them at a perticular event. (Say when there is nothing in a list to show when user clicks Previous or Next).
Thank u all.

Hi,
The can we change the position of the tooltip that is shown for long text in the treectrl?
Currently the tooltip is clipped by the screen limits. Can we move the tooltip to left in this case?
Thank you.

I re-compiled one of my applications under VS .NET 2005 (with no code changes) and the .exe is now twice the size....
What have Microsoft done ? or do I need to turn off some setting that is new, like a "make large .exe to waste disk space" setting ?
Any idea's ?

Darka

are compiling in debug or release mode ?

Hi V2.0,
Release - exactly the same build in both versions of the compiler, .NET 2005 is always larger (in the 3-4 projects I have tried).

Hi, make sure that you use MFC as a static link-edited library
and please check your optimization settings of your project.

Hi,
I don't use MFC and all optimisations are for "small code", etc.

I want to enumerate all items under the special folder 'Programs' which is part of the 'StartMenu'.
I want to be able to enumerate through all items and their links, inside the 'Programs' folder.
Once i enumerate all 'Programs' items i want to get the name and path of each item, launch each of them and log the name and path details.
I have been trying without any success, i used the SHGetSpecialFolderLocation(), EnumObjects() Shell funcs.
btw: is there a function like SHGetDesktopFolder(), to retieve other special folders like 'Programs', 'StartMenu' etc.
Please suggest me a correct method to do this and also let me know if a sample code for this is available?
Awaiting a reply.
Thanks in advance,

I got a solution to this using SHGetSpecialFolderLocation and specifying CSIDL_PROGRAMS and CSIDL_COMMON_PROGRAMS since all items under 'Programs' are stored in the above two.
