Thank U
As I 'm a C# developer I just tried it in C# and got the solution ,just posted it
Any way language is not a constraint, logic is important!

Yes, you have right "logic is important" but most important is to give exact solution by exact languge.

I am using Crystal Report in a VB.NET application. The report size that I have used is A4. The report is getting printed properly on a A4 size paper. But some users they want to print the same report on paper size smaller than A4 size (because the printer is a small printer). The problem is that when they want to print it in a small size paper, a part of the report is getting printed. I want the report/printing area to be adjusted based on Printer Selected.
Is there any way to do so. Please help.

Dear Friends,
I am using in my VB6 Project so many times SQL Query 'Like' Operator. But really I am confused about the use of % and *. some time when I uses like '%Str%' it works fine and sometime it doesn't. It means I have to check every like operator query twice. once with % and once with *.
My database is Access and front end is VB6.
Your quick response will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

These are called wild card characters in Sqlserver
When u use * it fetches all the attributes from the table
when u use % it selects the fields that contains the data inside %'test'%
But don't use * in ur select statements even u are retrieving all the columns from the table

But he's not useing SQL Server, he is using Access.

Other databases, like SQL Server and MySQL, uses % for wildcard. Access uses either * or %, at least in most cases, and at least some versions of Access.
It sounds a bit strange if the same version of Access handles this differently in certain queries, but strange is not really surprising when it comes to Access... Have you noticed any patterns in the behaviour, like a difference between using Text and Memo fields?

Are you mixing DAO and ADO code?
Normally access uses * as a wildcard but if you use ADO to access it you need to use %.
So a query in the Query designer in access will always be * but 'normally' (you should be using ADO really) in code it will be %. The exception is DAO which is an older access method is closely tied to jet and is in some case much faster and better for dealing with access databases will use * as it is so closely linked to the Jet engine.

I have a web control which is a dropdown list box (created & populated in VB.NET) - I want to be able to manipulate the selected value of this dropdown box based on text entered elsewhere (in another control - a textbox).
For this I'd like to use the onkeyup or onkeypress methods and trigger a Javascript function which will select a particular value in the dropdown box. My dropdown box is not a typical HTML options box, but it's a VB dropdown web control.
Such being the case how do I do this in Javascript? I found some code elsewhere (which I'm listing below) but this will not apply (I think) in my case - do I use some other getElement* method to get to the first item populated in the dropdown box?
function searchDropdown(searchStr,ddObj) {
var index = ddObj.getElementsByTagName("option");
for(var i = 0; i < index.length; i++) {
if(index[i].firstChild.nodeValue.toLowerCase().substring(0,searchStr.length) == searchStr.toLowerCase()) {
index[i].selected = true;
break;
}
}
}

That code is really ugly...
It is designed to go trough all the options in all the selectobxes on the form.
But when it finds the first item that match it breaks from searching leaving other potential mathing options (in other selectboxes) un-selected.
What you should do is write a function that will take two arguments. One is search string, and the other is the ID of your select box.
This function should only go trough the options of that selectbox.
Then you simply add the onkeydown event and call your function from there.

I need to create a grid thats a logarithmic scale for plotting curves. I've heard I'll have to use GDI+ to achieve this, and I'm using ZedGraph at the moment, but I have NO idea how to create a grid that is a base 10 logarithmic scale for an axis.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would like to get assistance on the following:
1) I am using an "Explorer Form" which should show on the left side a tree view of specific paths, for example:
- root (mapped to c:\tmp; or mapped to whatever specific path I would like)
- subdira (c:\tmp\dir1)
- subdirb (c:\tmp\dir2)
The form should allow me to add/remove/modify these nodes as I wish... Like I could add a subdirc, subdird, etc... And also remove them; however these should not be removed if there any files besides the descriptive "Desktop.ini" I am explaining later. When creating each, a modifiable "Desktop.ini" file would be created under each that needs to contain the folder's description, so that if I highlight the folder, a description will automatically pop-up, and if I need to go and change such description I could do so too. In essence, I can create a folder, add a description for it, it can contain certain types of files (example image files: jpeg/jpg, gif, bmp, etc), or whichever types I decide to be able to add to it.
2) However, this is where the subdirectory creation should end, by that I mean there should be no more ramifications under these newly created directories. No subdira\sub-subdira (c:\tmp\dir1\whatever; it should end at c:\tmp\dir1).
3) In doing so, I would also like to be able to view the contents of the folders on the right pane, just like Windows explorer does. However, these should be only represented as small icons (or thumbnails for images), and if double clicked on a particular image, it can be sized to larger size that will fit most if not all of the right pane (not open another program, but just enlarge to fit on the right pane).
Any suggestions or known links that already request such structure?
Thanks!

Hello to everyone. for my project i need to display some data in a datagridview. these data are contained in an Adodb.recordset object, that is given from an external class they gave me (and i am _forced_ to use adodb.recordsets).
the problem is, i can't set the datasource for the datagridview to be the recordset. i'll give you an example:
Dim dy As New ADODB.Recordset
Dim query As String = "SELECT * FROM table1"
''MyConn is an instance of the class i must use
MyConn.OpenRecordset(dy, query)
at this point i would write:
DataGridView1.DataSource = dy
it doesn't give me an error, but it doesn't work either, my datagridview remains empty.
is there any way to work on it without using datasets? i sadly have to use recordsets...
thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english.

Since the ADODB.Recordset class doesn't support the required Interfaces, you can't use it to bind to a DataGridView. You'll have to translate it into a DataSet object to use the data.
If you're writing the code, why on earth do you HAVE to use the older classes???? I see no point to it.

i HAVE to use the older classes because i work in a place full of quiche-eaters, who programmed in vb 6 until two days ago, and they suddenly decided to go VB.NET. so they hired me (and i am a c# programmer, who programmed serial interfaces with no experiences on databases, not even a vb.net one) and they gave me their old classes, just automatically converted. and of course, they forbid me to rewrite the class from scratch, because otherwise they would not be able to use it. this is my unlucky story...
however this morning i found a way, i use an OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter and with the method Fill i convert the recordset to a datatable. thanks anyways for having listened to my rant! ^__^
