I'm using VB.NET in Microsoft Visual Studio.NET 2003.
I have an application which is linked to a database. The Database is very simple, only 3 fields, which are Date, Task, duration.
I am using Crystal Reports to create summary reports of the data.
The report looks something like below (Example):
Date Task Duration
18/03/06 Meeting 01:00:59
19/03/06 Lecture 01:01:56
19/03/06 Lab 02:02:01
At the bottom of the report, under the Duration field I want to have the Total Duration. I can't seem to do this. Can anybody help please?
Thanks

Hi
I wrote my project using VB.NET with VS 2005. I added xml comments to every class/method/variable etc. I am using NDoc to create an help file based on these comments. The problem is NDoc is declaring that some of the components are missing comments allthough i have checked and the comments are there but from some reason NDoc was unable to read them.
How can i fix it.
Thank you for your help.

First make sure that your comments really are correct. Build the project, then look in the Task List if you have any warnings about missing comments.

How this is done would depend HEAVILY on the type of server that your uploading a file to. This would be some kind of file server with a mapped network drive, FTP server, TFTP, web server, ...
min13 wrote: it also can shutdown the computer
The REMOTE computer?? First, you'll need admin rights to the remote machine. Next, you'll have to call InitiateSystemShutdown[^] with the remote machine name, and various other parameters.

I have an easy question, I am new to programming with VB.NET but I have been programming extensibly in borland delphi.
is there a namespace with modem functions.
I need to be able to dial and establish connection with another computer over the modem.
All the help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried searching on MSDN?
My guess would be System.Web, but I am not familiar with web interaction with .NET at the moment.

There is no class for modem command support. All you need is a class that handles serial communication. Starting with .NET 2.0, check out the System.Io.Ports namespace. You'll find one there. For .NET 1.0 and 1.1, there are examples of writing your own SerialPort class all over the place. All you have to Google for ".NET 1.1 Serial class"[^].
You'll have to write your own class to handle communication using the modems command set.

What report card?!?
As for the access, look at some ADO.NET tutorials...

I can get this source code to work on my laptop just fine but not on my desktop computer which has an NVIDIA FX 5700 video card, OpenGL won't render on the form, however, I can run other OpenGL applications so I know my OpenGL system files are ok, and source code samples in other programming languages work.
The code was done in VB.NET Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite Edition, can anyone else get it too work?

hi,
i want to prevent my application from raising events before it is fully loaded
my problem is that for ex. the TextBox1_TextChanged is raised during InitializeComponent() which is not necessary, so it just adds to the application loading time
the ideal solution would be something like application.dontDoEvents, but i guess it's not that simple
thanks

You do not want to disable program events before the program initializes, because your program initializing is making hundreds of events. Your best bet would be to just ignore it, unless it is taking five extra minutes to load your program. The other option would be to selectively choose which events should not be run through the WndProc.

You disable raising events anyway, so it's a moot question.
If you want to improve your app's startup time, then you can read this[^] list of guidelines.
If you're trying not to do something during startup in a TextChanged event, then set a flag in your apps's Startup (before Application.Run() is called) or in the startup Form's Load event that says your app is starting up. THen, in each of the event handlers you don't want code to run in, check this flag first and run the code depending on that flag.
Better yet, your event handler code should be written to check for minimum requirements before executing the real "meat" of the event handler.

Hi,
Declare a private boolean variable and set it to false (which is by default) before the InitializeComponent() and set the same boolean variable to true after the InitializeComponent()
Then in the TextBox1_TextChanged event check with the variable Boolean Variable, Such that the code is executed only if the condition is true.
-------------------------
m_IsInitializing = True
InitializeComponent()
m_IsInitializing = False
Private Sub txtBetween1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtBetween1.TextChanged
If Not m_IsInitializing Then
'ur code
End If
End Sub
---------------------------
Hope that this has solved ur problem;
Cheers

i've done that, but i thought there was a more elegant way of doing it rather that cheching if a variable is true everytime such an event is raised
oh well..
thanks anyway![Smile | :)](https://codeproject.freetls.fastly.net/script/Forums/Images/smiley_smile.gif)

You are trying to read the user name from web.config. Have you put a value in web.config? What does your web.config file look like?
