Netscape 4 does support CSS and DHTML, but many of the styles (and in fact the entire DOM) that you are used to working with in IE are not present. Most of the basic styles such as font-face and font-size are present, so you can certainly use these in Netscape. Use trial and error and be careful - Netscape is very unforgiving if you make any errors!

I'm building an app in which I am dynamically creating a bunch of SPAN elements. I'm doing this by creating an object, which makes its own DIV element in which these SPAN will live (a menu app in case you haven't guessed).
The SPANs are made in a method of the menu object. Here's the wierdness:
I can set properties with ease: SPANelement.text = sometext
But when I try to set the onmouseover or any other event, the eventhandler only stays in scope (rather the assignment of said eventhandler) within the method. Once my menu object has finished creating the SPANs, the eventhandlers are "forgotten."
here's a snippet of what I've done.
funciton addItem(itemName, otherStuff)
{
itemText = "";
menu.innerHTML += itemText;
newItem = eval(itemName);
newItem.text = "Hiya";
newItem.otherProperty = "Interesting info";
newItem.onmouseover = itemOver; // itemOver is my handler
newItem.onmouseout = itemOut; // itemOut is also mine
}
menu1.addItem("item1", otherStuff);
any thoughts?

All of the examples I can find look in an Access DB to check a username and password to give access to the page or another DB. What I'm trying to find is a way to use the username and password in the string to open the DB along with a "if username is not correct then...".
Ex.
1. User is prompted to enter username and password on a page in text fields username and password.
2. When the user submits the page with the username and password entered, the values are stored in strUsername and strPassword.
3. A ADODB Connection is made [Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")] and then the DB is about to be opened.
4. The path the DB is located in is set to strDatabasePath. Then the string to open the database is put together.
"DBQ=" & strDatabasePath & ";DefaultDir=;UID=" & strUsername & ";PWD=" & strPassword & ";"
5. When the string above is executed to open the database, I want the user to be promted to re-enter the username and password if the username and/or password is incorrect.
I've tried to be as descriptive as possible and hopefully not confusing.

Hi, I want to use ASP pages as web interface for one existing APP. I have added a COM Automation interface with some methods to the app, and I can access it throught a Win32 COM client app. But I can´t do that with ASP pages, because every page starts a new instance of this APP. The awkward is that this happens only in IIS or PWD installed in Windows NT or 2000, in Windows 98 this does not happen. Instead, it works as I expected, calling the methods of the APP that´s already running. I´m wondering that´s a IIS configuration problem, but I coundn´t find anything about it. Any help will be welcome.
Thanks a lot,
Alexandre

If I make hyperlink with HREF="C:\MYAPP.EXE" as the address, when the link is clicked the IE will obviously ask if you wish to download it etc. Is there a way to execute the app instead, eg run the app (will be from a local not internet address) when the link is clicked.
Thanks for any help
Jerry

I am writing some CGI programs that use MFC. If I link statically, everything works fine, but if I link dynamically, the CGI program does not run. Because of a weird library I am using, I must link one of the program dynamically.
I am using someone else as an ISP so I don't have access to the server. Also, I have no way of knowing what DLL is not being found, or even if that is the problem because all I get is a web page that says the CGI program did not return the proper headers.
The server is IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000. How come Win2K does not include all the standard DLLs? How do I solve this problem?
Don't even think about telling me to use ISAPI! That has enough problems of it's own.
|
|
|
|
|
The DLL's the CGI needs are:
MFC42D.DLL
MFCN42D.DLL
MFCO42D.DLL
MSVCRTD.DLL
If it works let me know..

1. If value of $num was 21, what would be the following:
a) Here is $num."
b) "\\$num is my favorite."
c) "Insert \$num here."
2. Define the following:
subscript
Thanks, your help is greatly appreciated.
|
|
|
|
|
1.
a) >Here is 21.
b) >\21 is my favorite.
c) >Insert $num here.
2.
Whatever you think about, a sub function is defined as following:
sub MySub()
{
$arg1 = $_[0];
$arg2 = $_[1];
#etc
return "A little text";
}
and called:
print &MySub("Hello");
---
Pseudocode is code to demonstrate a concept, not designed to be run.
Like certain Microsoft software.

Hi
I'm programming for internet applications (JScript, ASP mainly)
Up until now i've been programming on explorer 5.01 (and some 5.5)
now i need to make a new ( \ compatible ? ) version for netscape (4.7 and later).
I need to know what are the main differences (or where can i find the information) in these subjects:
1. positioning objects
2. Microsoft VML (is there a netscape counterpart ? )
3. XML compatability (activeX objects ? ) server and client side
4. any other major differences
Thanks in advance
Lior

Does anyone know of a way to run an .asp page on another server and have it returned to your own .asp page on your server for inclusion. ie I own both pages, one would be on a shared server (news) and I'd like to pull news content into another page (NOT a frameset, I know you can do it with a frameset) as part of a table layout. Is there anyway to do this (I know .NET and webs services will help in the future but I need a solution now) using current asp techniques. Many thanks

The best way to get content from another site would be to use an HTTP control. I wouldn't suggest WinInet however since it has serious threading problems. Controls such as Ultimate TCP/IP from Dundas Softare (www.dundas.com) will work just fine.
Using ASP you can retrieve the extra content from the other HTTP server and paste it in however you see fit.
|
|
|
|
|
If you control both servers, you can also set up a virtual directory on your second server that points to the appropriate directory on your news server. Then you can treat the news page as if it were on the same web and use it in a #include statement.

Thanks for that idea, I do control both for our customer sites at least so that would work.
