Following on from what Dave was getting at in the above thread, you could always just create a shortcut under the Explorer startup group to run the command line:

rundll32 user32.dll LockWorkStation

Grab a copy of TweakUI[^] and you should be able to automatically set which user you want windows to login as and theres an option to specify a password as well.

I've found some registry keys[^] to do just that (I suppose TweakUI uses them too), thanx for your fast reply Wink | ;-)

These are the keys:

Where was this mentioned???? No one said anything about this. You can't disable login passwords anyway, so I wondering where this came from.

Try this idea:

Refer to http://www.codeproject.com/script/comments/forums.asp?forumid=1644#xx1344036xx[^] create a shortcut to the startup folder. When your computer autologin, it will lock your computer immediately. But you have to configure your download manager first.

This script[^] is create the file shortcut to lock the desktop. You can customize it to lock the desktop only and configure this script as log on script. Then your computer will be locked immediately after it pass an auto login process. You don't need to wait for a screen saver and lock the system.

Are you asking how to write your own device drivers for this hardware?? You're best bet is Visual C++ and the Windows Device Driver Development Kit[^].

After that, building an Installer is a piece of cake with something like InstallSheild.

It just keeps displaying the shut down dialog box saying

"Saving your settings". Lol what setting is it saving.

How can I tweak this. Any registry tweak available.

It doesn't hang, just takes more time to shut down. This is not Win XP but Windows 2000 Pro

Have you tried booting to safe mode? If you can get to shut down properly in safe mode, I would assume that it's not a hardware problem, but a software problem. You can also try installing sp4.

Everthing is fine no hardware problem just a small glitch, nothing else.

There is no "registry tweak" for this. Windows is busy doing something. Perhaps you have a Service installed that isn't shutting down properly? Maybe a virus scan going on that won't quit immediately? Maybe you installed a driver to read SD cards? Camera driver? ...

There's thousands of reasons this may happen. The trick is figuring out what happened or was installed just before the problem starting occuring.

I installed Service Pack 4 and there started the problem. It doesn't hang. Before it used to take about 5 secs to shut down now it takes 2 mins to shutdown. Dead | X|

I have no idea. About the best source you're going to find is support.microsoft.com[^].

You may also want to check into the list of Post-SP4 Hotfixes here[^].
