Hello everybody, I plan to get Micrsoft Certisfied Support Desktop Technician (MCDST) in 2006. Does anybody has an experience about taking this exam? If so, please provide some experience during the time that you try to obtain this certificate. What point should I do and don't in order to get the certificate successfully.

MCDST is a certification, not an exam. It consists of two exams, 70-271 and 70-272.

If you have actual experience with supporting Windows desktop environments, the exams should not be a problem, nor should the order in which you sit for them.

Used to be a desktop support for user around six month. After that I work as a database developer and now i work as system analyst. Whether i work closely with programming language, but i still love to research about windows operating system and others like linux or unix. Currently i have MCP on windows 2000.
In your opinion, my above background could help me to take MCDST successfully or not?

At my company (financial software shop in NYC) most developers are non-american. It's hard nowadays to get working visas, they run out early so it will take a year or so from that you have a job offer to when you can start working. You usually have to come to US to look for jobs and do interviews, you can't do that from abroad. Your English must be much better than it is now. Also, you say you have many years of programming experience, but companies normally only count the time you worked as programmer after university and then you only have one year of programming experience, which is little short to be able to land a visa.
I had 5 years of professional programming experience and it was still tough to get a job here. However, the jobmarket in NYC is great for C++ programmers, specially if you have some financial background also. Good luck

About programming experience... Someone told me about that before. Well, if I ought to wait I will wait
Anyway, I wanna add C# and other .NET stuff in my resume

hello...i'm thinking about getting MS certified. i wanted to start off with the MCAD and move towards the MCSD after. but with the new certifications i don't know if i should do that.
what do you guys think is the best/easiest option?
get the old MCAD/MCSD and upgrade to the new certs, or just get new certs from the start?

Take whatever exams you are capable of passing. Get experience with those you are not. The certifications will fall into place naturally.

Old or New, MCSD is the same. Concepts are the same. Based on your application area, means based the skill what is required in your work, choose one of that. I have completed MCAD recently.

but passing theory is not an issue

Hi,
these are the details for the MS exams.
if u clearing one paper that is called MCP.
if u clearing 3 paper that is called MCAD.
if u finishing all the 5 papers that is called
MCSD.
so choice the exam for the first paper(MCP)

Hello All,
I was just wondering if there was anybody out there (particularly hiring managers or others with a hand in interviewing and hiring) with an opinion on this:
With all else (other qualifications, experience, salary, etc.) being equal, do hiring managers prefer prospective applicants to have an advanced degree (Masters or higher), or a MS Certification in the relative field?
I realize that this is a wide open question, but I'm just looking to get a feel for the general opinions out there.

Agreed. I have jsut started a new job (software QA) and it will take a eyar to define the role to my satisfaction. Noone else can really do that for me.

I'm looking for someone to create a compilable, runnable version of mplayer[^] from the source code and codecs that they provide.
Basically, I don't have the patience to do this. The end result should be a complete and accurate set of instructions on how to build the application and a complete snapshot of the directories, tools, etc., properly configured, for building the program. The goal is that with the directory snapshot, I should be able to replicate the build environment on my workstation and with the documentation, build the exe. Actually, the snapshot and documentation should be checked in to a repository on my CVS server.
