Seems that the big panic may have simply been the market catching its breath. Latest news I heard is that the market is shooting back up again.

The simple rules of trading are to buy before a stock goes up, and sell before it goes down.

I'd like to go on Record as saying the NASDAQ will plumet real bigtime during the next 18 months, And thats when I intend to pick up my preselected stocks.
Many tech stocks I consider worthless already.
Thus its important to analyse where you place your money.
As there are some real winners on the NASDAQ that will fall,
getting caught up when the traders yell Sell SELL !!
I know I'll get some flak for saying this, about the NASDAQ diving. But its my two cents.
Note: I sold out in DEC 86 and bought in NOV 87.

Well Chris, it appears that your old comrades over at Codeguru must be feeling the heat. Wow, their stock has fallen from a high of nearly $70, to just $9 (or even less). Maybe the news got out that you stopped helping them
There's also some news that maybe they're running out of cash too...

God Forbid.....CodeGuru is a lovely resource, and I hope that it continues to be available.....its just a pity that they haven't kept up with new samples lately...

I don't care about the EarthWeb, but I hope CodeGuru will survive. I need both sites - CodeGuru and CodeProject - to exist. It is healthy - competition is fair and I like them both..

i think earthweb get what they deserve. codeguru was the best and then they ruined it. all they care about is money and not us developers. if they cared about codeguru they would have made it cool like this site. i think its funny that as soon as chris got this site off the ground suddenyl codeguru comes back online after 3 months and then when chris does all this stuff they start promising more and more but all they care about are hitcount

That's kind of harsh. Codeguru is still a valuable resource and Tom is doing his best to keep it current. I'm sure Earthweb are doing what they think is best. You don't go and buy a site for several million if you aren't going to look after it..

Well, I don't know. Although I'm not quite as strong on the point as boris, I tend to agree with him. I think CodeGuru really did rest on their butts, the servers were up and down, the URL was broken not for hours, but seemingly for weeks.
It seems to me that they did in-fact spend $$$ on the site only to let it languish. It also appears to me that they are way more focussed on their job placement thing than on making CG's content nice.
I think Tom's a nice guy, don't get me wrong, but it seems to me that CodeGuru is being totally reactive to what you're doing here.
I hope that with these new excellent forums, people find CP a vibrant place to have discussions, and that you are rewarded for your hard work with lots and lots of viewers.
FWIW I'll certainly be doing what I can to support CodeProject.
I'm also really anxious to see the code that drives these forums! I'd love to put them into some of the sites I work on

I'm sorry, but in all my thinking, I can't come up with a benign explanation of what Earthweb did with Codeguru. If they perceived Codeguru as competition, they could easily justify buying it only to let it die a slow death. That's one explanation. Another is managerial incompetence bordering on the criminal. Either way, its hard to feel much sympathy for them

The market is just being realistic about present valuations. Much of the potential is still there for huge growth but these dot.com companies need to start making some money

The market has recovered slightly in the last day or so as many said - but is it the case of the proverbial dead cat bouncing (what a horrible analogy they came up with for that one) or is it a case of short memory?
I spent an hour trying to explain to my father why a company that is making huge losses, has no potential for making money, and has no track record can be worth millions. In the end I realised that I couldn't even convince myself :
