This a good site
but can be improved some small problems i face

so easy way or link can be introduced.
2> When i have posed a qestion and then refresh to see
the answer all contents are refresh some time this
take more time , so we can just refresh the section
related to the question which will be more faster.
Might be there are technical constrains but i just wanted
to bring this to notice , its good if it is possible .

On the top right of every page, there are some navigation dropdowns. On the top of the 'Message Boards' dropdown, it says 'Visual C++'. Just to let you know...

Would it not be quite interesting/useful if there was a CP IRC channel? That is of course assuming that one does not already exist, and I have not been too stupid/blind/foolish to miss it.

Seriously... This has been suggested many times and rejected many times for good reasons. Mainly - Most people here really don't have the time to waste on IRC channels.
Also, people would abuse it. For example, many people here answer questions on the programming forums. I, personally, would not want to go through a chat with someone to answer their questions. When I answer a question I want the answer to be available to everyone, not just the person at the other end of the chat. If the answer is available to all then there is the chance that someone is not so lazy and will use the search function. If the answer is not available on CP then everybody loses.

Hi there,
I'm getting too old to be reminded of my own birthday, so I tried to remove it from my settings. However, it just kept reappearing, even after I saved and logged out.
I've now changed it to 2001  but does anyone know how I can just clear the field?
I've tried 0/0/0000 and 0 and blank. Nothing seems to work!

It's in "My Settings", like I said. There's a link to it on the right nav bar.

I know all that. If you don't like to be reminded of your birthday, why not just refrain from visiting the My Settings page? How often do you need to visit that page anyhow?

OK, let me rephrase my original question, without the niceties:
My profile says that my birthday is in 2001. I would like to empty this field if possible, but when I delete the date, it reappears.
Can anyone tell me how I can clear the field?

Often when I've posted a question and am frequently refreshing the forum I never go long enough without acccessing the page to trigger an automatic marked read and find myself seeing posts I read hours ago still marked as new.

I think that would just fill up with crap. Articles are good because it encourages people to tell the world what their application does. Typically, the artcle shows the snippet that is important to the example already. A snippet repository would just encourage people to dump blocks of code with no explanation. The noise to signal ratio would mean that it would quickly become useless.

What you say is true. I like the kind of control repository Code Project maintains. The articles (generally) are educational and practical. My suggestion was to have a repository similar to the control repository. Upon reflection however, the educational aspect may quickly be exhausted. OK. I retract my suggestion.

I don't think that there will ever be a way to stop people from posting items that don't belong in the Lounge - this is something that I can accept. What I don't like is when it turns into a 20 post thread about how it should be posted somewhere else. This wastes space, pushes down legitimate posts, and is just plain annoying.
There was an example today of how I think it should work where the poster was re-directed to the appropriate location with a single reply.

Is there any way to add a button on the the "Reply" page form that says something along the lines of "Not Appropriate for Lounge"? Clicking this button could pre-populate the reply with some stock text that has proven to be relatively effective in the past. Something like the following might work:
"This post belongs in a different forum - the Lounge is intended for discussion on non-programming related items only. You could try posting this in one of the programming forums[^].

The C++/CLI and Visual C++ forums seem to have a lot "wrong forum" replies.
C++/CLI would seem to be suggesting generic C++ ie including the STL and the command line interface and to be less MS orientated
Visual C++ all things WIMP/MS
Why then does the forum ATL/WTL/... (overtly Microsoft) then also have STL (which is inseparable from C++?) in its name? Sure it's a template library but it seems counter intuitive to mix it with the MS stuff 
Some respondents seem to have been a bit rude about their redirection suggestions which can also seem to be wrong!
I am clearly not the only noob confused by this.
Wouldnt C++/STL/CLI make more sense?

C++/CLI is a new ECMA standard that represents a binding between ISO C++ and the Common Language Infrastructure. It's essentially the .NET enabled version of C++ available in VC++ 2005.
