Hi, I am trying to set the attributes for an entire tree for subfolders using VB 6.0, like it’s done in Explorer if you select “Apply changes to this folder, subfolder”.
The only way I can do this so far is to loop at each level. The following script is just getting me two levels down.
Does anyone a trick in changing the attributes on a folder that would replicate down to all levels of children? I have not found any posting where this was ever accomplished. So it would take a very smart person to figure this one out. ;- )
Thanks for sharing my problem and thinking about it.
Function File_Check()
'Test if the folders are read-Only
Dim objFSO, objFolder, colFiles, objFile, objSub, colSub, objFSO2, objFolder2, colSub2, objSub2, colFiles2, objFile2, colFiles1, bypass As Integer
Const ReadOnly = 1
Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objFolder = objFSO.GetFolder("G:\Internal")
Set colSub = objFolder.SubFolders
Set colFiles = objFolder.Files
For Each objFile In colFiles
If objFile.Attributes And ReadOnly Then
objFile.Attributes = objFile.Attributes Xor ReadOnly
End If
Next
For Each objSub In colSub
Set colFiles1 = objSub.Files
For Each objFile In colFiles1
If objFile.Attributes And ReadOnly Then
objFile.Attributes = objFile.Attributes Xor ReadOnly
End If
Next
'Repeat one layer down.
Set colSub2 = objSub.SubFolders
For Each objSub2 In colSub2
Set colFiles2 = objSub2.Files
For Each objFile2 In colFiles2
If objFile2.Attributes And ReadOnly Then
objFile2.Attributes = objFile2.Attributes Xor ReadOnly
End If
Next
Next
Next
End If
End Function

hello there, I am new to programing
I have a problem, I imported the file Authentication.dll and it's under Reference in the solution window.
However, when I try to use it as a funtion I get this blue line with message the Authentication is namespace and it's not valid. I tried puting imports statement as you can see below, but it still didn't work. The authentication.dll suppose to check if name and password are good and return true/false.
Imports Authentication
Public Class Login_Control
Inherits System.Windows.Forms.UserControl
Public Event allowed()
Public Event Denied()
Private Sub btnLogin_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnLogin.Click
Dim name, password As String
name = txtUserName.Text
password = txtPassWord.Text
If Authentication("name", "password") = True Then
End If
End Sub

Hi there,

it looks like that u are using the namespace's name as a method

O,K
so authentication is namespece. So what I need to write to single VB.NET that I want to use the function authentication.dll?
thank you for responding so fast

I am sorry but I just don't understand.
the function and the dll are both called Authentication, how can I call it without writing it?
Can you give me an example?

Since I dont know much about VB.NET , but generally to use a dll, just simply follow these steps
did u have Authentication.dll ?
if so...
- create a project
- add a reference to that dll
- in ur project call dll's functions

This is exactly what I did, and I still getting this blue line, that tell the my function name isn't a method.
Can you send me a simple code example, so I can see what I do wrong?
thank for your help

Currenyly, I have no any code here ;(. So u might google a bit
Let's check again, in the Authentication.dll, how many functions there?
and fucntions's name? And remember that u have to call a method (using method's name) not namespace's name.
I assume that there is a function named "test(...)" in the Authentication.dll
in ur app, just call test(...)

Unfortunately, he can't show you any code that is going to help. What you have to do/type in depends heavily on your .DLL. You can glean some information from the Object Browser (View menu in Visual Studio). Since you already have a reference to the .DLL, it's namespace and objects will show up in the browser. Since the Imports line doesn't error out, you apparently have the namespace right, or the top level name at least. You could also try hitting period after you type Authentication so the Intellisense list pops up.

I am not a .NET programmer, but have years of VB1-6. Can you reference the DLL explicitly so you don't get a clash with the routine name??
as an example ADODB.Connection as oppossed to Connection

I have a windows application with two forms. Both forms work and will pass information and button clicks between them. The problem is a none update of Form2 until after Form1 completes all of its task.
Form1 is the one doing all the work. Form 2 has a Progress Bar and a large TextBox that I want to use like a console/debug window.
When the begin button is clicked on Form1, The “Outline Only” of Form2 displays. It says that way until Form1 finishes all of its work. Then the TextBox displays all of the messages sent to it and completes the display.
How can you make Form2 complete its display and show the messages and progress bar as Form1 is performing the updates.

I think you'll need to use Application.DoEvents()a good place to put it would be right after data is sent to Form2. Also you could call Form2.Invalidate to force it to redraw.

i have this data and i want to use regular expression to get particular sets so as to put it into an array, then to excell. For now am stack at how to use regex method or any regular xpression method to get the the first occuranse of the double zeros, the the subsequent zeros separtely.
5 188631 004 TUMUSHABE BENSON -357,609 00 00 00 20901 0.00
5 446478 003 BAGONZA LYNETTE -261,350 00 00 00 20901 60,000.00
5 420413 019 MAGALA STEPHEN -128,019 00 00 00 20901 40,000.00
5 199311 001 LUBEGA BOBBY MICHEAL -10,000 19 06 19 20901 0.00
i need2capture the first '00', 2nd '00' and so on up to the last 0.00. by the way these values can change eg '00' --> '16' etc
using the string split() method may not work as "5 188631 004" is to be taken as one number. So are the names. after that every space inbetween the numbers is indiacates a new column.
Some one please help

why go through all of that? it appears that values are separated by a space (" ") so try using split():
dim vArray as Variant
dim sLineIn as string
vArray = Split(sLineIn, " ")
'creates a 0-based array separating the input string by spaces
'in the case of your first sample line
'vArray(7) is your first set of "00"
'in foruth sample you are missing a space after "-"
'this is still no problem as you can count back from UBound(vArray)
'vArray(UBound(vArray)-4) is the first set of "00"
'just build logic around recognizing which array elements are actually "00"
for i = 0 to Ubound(vArray)
if vArray(i) = "00" then
'here is where you start
else
'something
end if
next i

How can I change the foreground color of a disabled textbox to black?

I already test in vb6 application. Just change the ForeColor property in the code if you know the Name of the text box. Example:
Text1.ForeColor = vbBlack

Does anybody know how to get the location of a file from only the filename?
E.g. Filename = "test.txt" and then I need to return the whole path (e.g "C:\Test\test.txt")
Thanks in advance

Do you not have any other information about the location of this file? Would it noramlly be in the application folder, or "My Documents" or something. Presuming you do know the directory then the fullpath is just a string so use string manipulation:
filepart = "test.txt"
folder = "c:\test"
fullpath = folder & "\" & filepart
