The .NET Redistributable package, can be installed on any machine in which you want to *run-only* any .NET application.
When you said, you just wanted to copy certain dlls, I understood that you do not want to install the entire .NET framework but looking for a minimal version, only to run the applications (and not really for any development on the server). For this purpose, you can use the .NET Redistributable package (found in MS website) and install it on the server rather than trying to copy some dlls.

I have a project here which demands somekind of interop(sesion information) between asp and asp.net.
I understand from the .net documentation that this thing is not supported.
I would like to know how do you do this using some other technique.
Thanks

Hi,
I found this great program : http://www.mental.co.nz/cms/
But I want it to work within an ASP page as an include, but somehow it's not working maybe mecause it's built out of frames...
Anyway how can I remove the frames and make it work without them.
Here's the code that I don't know how to change:
Is there anyway of doing this differntly, without frames?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've read\viewed some articles about ASP\ASP.NET and I want to learn something about it.
I have WinXP Professional with IIS on my machine. I'm connected to Internet via LAN (linux).
Should I have any software beside VS.Net. I heard that there are some problems when the server is under Linux control. I only want to write and test ASP apps on my computer.

You don't have to be even connected to Internet if you want to develop ASP/ASP.NET. Your computer will be a server by itself, with domain name "localhost". So it is doesn't matter how you are connected to Internet.

Whats the general synopsis on the tabular data control...?
I believe it uses the ADO activeX control to process and bind the data to the HTML elements, but I feel if-fy using it for a client...they ain't paying me enough to do it in Perl (only pl scripts are allowed to run on there server)
it's not really required to have the data processed server side then sent back to the browser. Really I want just a quick fix and the TDC sounds comfy...but I wanna know where this control stands in the near future...?
I'm not up for storing a large client side array w/ JScript and adding searching/sorting this way either...maybe it would be more cross borwser compatible, but I think NS has a plugin that allows TDC to work it's magic.
Anyways...whats your opinion on the TDC considering the above...?

There are plenty of people here that can and are willing to help with an issue, but you have to be more specific. For instance, how are you broadcasting messages right now?
Generally with chat programs you know the users that are in the room. Instead of sending a message to all the users, just single one out. That's about all I can say until you give more details.

In my Access database, i have a field called REVIEW. It contains many characters and sentences. What I wanted to do is to only display x amount of characters. Well, that would result in cutting half of a word if 150 characters happen to stop at said a word called "insurance". anyway, whats a better way to do this??? Can I only display the first sentence, when it stop at the mintue they see the "." (period)?? thanks

Try using this function...
Function TruncWithChar (data, length, char)
' if we don't find the char, just return the string
If Not InStr(Left(data, length), char) > 0 Then
TruncWithChar = Trim(Left(data, length))
Exit Function
End If
' check for the char
If Mid(data, length, 1) = char Then
TruncWithChar = Trim(Left(data, length))
Else
' it's not, find the last position
x = InStrRev(Left(data, length), char)
TruncWithChar = Trim(Left(data, x))
End IF
End Function
Here's an example call you can use with the sentence situation...
TruncWithChar("Let me tell ya story 'bout a man named Jed. Poor mountaineer", 50, ".")

Chaps,
I have this ActiveX control that we use rather extensively on our intranet to display test results, is it possible to use ActiveX controls on ASP.NET or would I have to make it into some kind of web service?
Thanks for any response

I have not test it but I know at least you can use HTML code in ASP.NET,so you can use OBJECT tag.

Hi,
I have developed a set of .aspx pages that interact with a database. I have put the same database connection string into every page, but this isn't ideal for obvious reasons. Is there any way I can specify the database connection string outside of the .aspx pages or somwhere that all pages can access it from?
Cheers.
Dave.

I have developed a web application that will only allow users to view pages once they have logged in. When I create a .aspx page I can call this will give me the current User or ID that is logged in:
Dim ClientID As String = User.Identity.Name
This works fine when I try and call the same line within a (.ascx) control page I get an error. Why can I not call the logged in user from a .ascx control or can I?
I also save a cookie at the login page but I also don’t know how to retrieve the data from within a (.ascx) page.
Response.Cookies("ClientID").Value = ClientId

I almost have the forums working, all except for a pesky little problem:
Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3'
Server.CreateObject Failed
/forum/includes/forum.inc, line 65
Invalid ProgID. For additional information specific to this message please visit the Microsoft Online Support site located at: http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.
I troubleshot it down to:
set m_Ax = Server.CreateObject("AspForum.Forum2.1")
any ideas?

I need to merge data in a database and have the application print out and look exactly like the current paper version. I have looking into generating a pdf file using XMLPDF, but to layout the entire app in xml might be too time comsuming. Does anyone know of any other solutions out there for creating a printable doc that is as good as the original paper app?

We have used an ActiveX product from Data Dynamics called Active Reports which allows the user to print the report from the web. This component also allows you to create PDF's. One of the great features from this company is they have a royalty free plug in for the end user to download. This is great when comparing licensing prices from companies like Crystal Reports. Hope this helps.

When submitting a form...how can your compare the server time with the client time. If there is a restriction of 48hours.
The form must be submitted where as the people on the other side have time to set the request up...there needs to be a minimum of 48 hours. If the form is submited under that 48 hours...how can you return false or alert user...insufficent amount of time, please resubmit and adjust your time.

A couple things come to mind:
1) You could cookie them when they first get the form. Stick the server time and date into a cookie, then when they submit the form you can check cookie, compare it to the current time on the server and take any actions you need.
2) Use a database to record time / date of the user's first visit, then when they try to submit the form, check how much time has passed.
I'd go with option 2) I think, since it's not dependent on the browser accepting your cookie. Unfortunately you will need to identify the person filling out the form before you send it to them the first time.
Best,
Bill
