Hello. I have a homework assignment where we have a status bar which value comes from a percentage of "done" work. Don't worry, you're not doing the assignment for me. Already got the formula set up and it works, but would like to have a percentage along with the progress bar's value. This isn't part of the assignment, but I would like to add it to make a little more professional. I noticed there is a property .text. No text actually shows up. Is this possible?

Hello!
To show the current value of progress bar you can use the property VALUE of progress bar like,
Var=ProgressBar1.Value
Now you can add up a Timer and on each timer tick, update the status bar with the variable 'Var'.

Not with the intrinsic Progress Bar control.
You can create your own progress bar that you fill in and draw the text using your own painting algorithm.
This was easy in VB6, in VB.NET, not so much.

You'll have to creat your own ProgressBar class, inheriting from ProgressBar. Then you'll override the OnPaint event and draw the progressbar and text yourself.
But, if you go through this, consider that you might go too far and your prof will suspect you didn't write the code. Have you even come close to covering inheriting from other classes? Have you covered overrides? Have you covered drawing your own controls?
Yeah, this stuff might get you extra credit, but it's a bunch of work for a little credit.
I only say this, because in a class I took, I got accused of not writing the code myself. It turned into a huge mess with accusations of plagerism. I was able to wiggle my way out of it by having the prof give me a different assignment and I wrote it right in front of him.

Ok, not just wanting to do it for extra points. It would be nice if I could get it done in time to do so. It's actually an application I could use in everyday stuff and would like to have it for that too. But I'll give it the good old try and if I don't get it, oh well. Thanks!

Hmm....
I cant find any property of progress bar to display text...
but you can place the progress bar in a separate form and place a label on top of it and update the label text on timer tick with the desired text...
Remember you should explicitly update the text...

Without seeing any of your code, it's impossible to tell you what you'r doing wrong. The description you've given is too vague to be of any use in troubleshooting your problem.
How are you trying to transfer this file? How is this connection being made? What does the client code for this look like? The server code?

embed a office workstations map when everytime they log in. It will show the id name of that workstations or agent id...I'm trying to create an ActiveX Control connect to SQL server...

Since Windows doesn't track who logs in to what workstation and each Windows user can login, or I should say connect, to many Windows machines at the same time, this will be an inaccurate map.
But, for the most part, people only login to the workstation and attach to a few servers. You would have to have a component (Windows Service) running on every workstation to record login and logout events and what the user ID is. This service would have to report to a center server component that maintains a database of currently logged in users and what machine they're on. This is the easy part.
The hard part is showing the map and maintaining the datastore behind it. You'll need to write a small control that represents a workstation and displays its status, name and user ID that's logged in. There will also have to be a manager application that shows your map, creates and places controls for each workstation, and communicates with the central server to get each workstations status. The server could also log each change in status to another table in its database.
It would probably be a good idea to impliment a subscription service on the server that this manager application uses to get notifications of status changes from the server instead of the manager polling the server every some-odd seconds to get every workstation status. This is because logins/logouts don't occur often and constantly polling a server for things that don't change much is just a waste of resources and bandwidth.

I'm designing in VB 6.0 a program specifically intended to be placed on PDA's in the future. I think I need to use AppForge to make this easy but I haven't even installed AppForge on my PC yet, so maybe you AppForge users will know another approach to this... Anyway, I need some ideas on ways to implement an activation key or some sort of registration that will prohibit the end user of the software from being able to simply make a copy or 'beam' it to another PDA. I've got a EULA at the beginning which makes a registry entry if the user doesn't want to see it again (after he agrees to it first). Is there a simple solution there that I'm not thinking of?

Nope. Welcome to the world of copy protection. There is no easy solution to this at all. No matter what you, there will be a way around it.
You just have to make the copy protection so elaborate as to not make it obvious where the key is stored, either in the registry or diguised in a file somewhere.
The problem is, there are utilities out there that make it easy to trace what's going on in the File System and Registry.

The registry in not transferred over, but there's nothing stopping the user from just searching the Registry and exporting your key to a file, copying that over to the new PDA and importing it into the Registry.

Hello
I have a problem with the imagelist control, when the number of images it contains, becomes too much. I have a ListView control bound to it. The number of the items in the ListView (and thus, the ImageList) control, may become thounsands. But exactly when I have more than 1000 items in the ImageList, my program crashes: "This program has performed an illegal operation"
Is the problem exactly related to ImageList and putting too many images in that?
I really need your help.

It doesn't look like there's a know problem like that. How are you loading up the ImageList?

It's in vb6.
It is in a function that gets FilePath and adds it's icon to the ImageList.
