The iframe does not load the source file. MS Explorer works fine. The issue seems to be that I am trying to provide a path that points to another computer on my local network.. in this case the name of the computer is "someWindowsComputer". I have tried file://someWindowsComputer/..... as well. Both versions work in Explorer. These types of URLs do not work anywhere where a src field can be used, like in image tags, on firefox however they work everywhere in Explorer. Is there another syntax that can be used on FF?

Is there any way that one can reffer to a new page with an URL and at the same time define how the window should look (eks: no toolbars, size etc).

I don't know if you mean pop-ups or just the next page. If you are looking to change a pop up, take a look at chapter seven of http://www.javascriptworld.com/scripts/index.html.
If you want to change the appearance of the next page depending on what you click on, you could do that on the back end with ASP or something like that. The script would then generate custom CSS based on what the link asked for. For example:

vs.
/page.asp?layout=2
In your asp code, you would have something like:

You can do this:
window.statusbar.visible = false;
window.toolbar.visible = false;
The only problem is that this script will only work with Netscape 4+. IE doesn't have a window object for either the status bar or the tool bar.

I have a user control, which mimics a keyboard. When the user control is closed, the text entered (textmode = password) is copied to a textbox (textmode = password) on the parent. I receive no errors, but the data is not copied.
This works ok if the parent textbox is not a password field.
Is there a restriction on copying text to a password field, is there an alternative way of doing this?

You can't copy from a password field. That is disabled for security reasons.

I have created a div with a position:absolute; attribute. Here is the declaration:

border-bottom: solid 5px black;

}
Below this one, I've created another div, which should vertically start immediately below the above div top: 300px;. Problem is, IE displays the border inside the 300px height whereas IE seems to add the border to the height. The result is, the lower div overlaps the upper one by exactly 10px.
Is there a hack to it?

The correct way accordning to standard is to add the border outside the specified size.
If you use a doctype on your page IE will work in Standards Mode, and at least make an effort to follow the standards.

There is no read only property for the select element.
You can set the disabled property to true, which is similar to read only. The field will not be included when you post the form, though.

Thanks Guffa but I don't want to remove them, depending on a radio button choice, I want to hide the first two elements. If the user select another radio button I want to show these 2 elements,

There is no way of hiding options. If you don't want them to apperar in the list you have to remove them from the options collection, and then add them again if needed.

Hi there, perhaps a good Samarathan out there could please help me to create the proper HTML code to force a cab file containing an ActiveX web component to download to the visitor's pc each and every time he/she visits the page.
I thus do not just want the cab to download if there are version changes or no prev. installation. I want it to download everytime. The reason for this behaviour is to prevent tampering/replacement of the ocx file that is transported in thecab file to the user. I need to be sure that everytime he visits the site, he gets a fresh copy of the cab file.
If this has to be done in PHP instead of regular HTML, it would also be fine.

In what way does it behave differently?
Make sure that you have a doctype on the page. Otherwise the browsers will actually make an effort to behave as differently as possible.
You are using non-standard properties like bgcolor and bordercolor. That won't work in all browsers. Use css for setting the appearence.
