How can I write code in Visual Basic to send data using SNMP over the network to a network manager
|

I haven't seen any pure vb snmp trap code.
Most folks use a commercial snmp activex control.
But, here's some places to start if you realy want to build your own.
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a widely used protocol for monitoring the health and welfare of network equipment (eg. routers), computer equipment and even devices like UPSs. Net-SNMP is a suite of applications used to implement SNMP v1, SNMP v2c and SNMP v3 using both IPv4 and IPv6.

SNMP Packet Library
The SNMP Packet Library is a C++ library for encoding and decoding SNMP packets. Extremely easy to use. Create those useful SNMP applications without worrying about the underlying protocol details. Includes classes to support UDP tranmission and a Poller class with asynchronous callbacks

Jul 23, 2002 - Creating an SNMP Component
Ben Garcia sheds some light on the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). First he provides a history of SNMP, then he dives right into its architecture. Finally, he shows how to build a COM component that communicates with SNMP-enabled devices.

Sep 4, 2002 - Creating an SNMP Component - Part 2
In part two of this intriguing article series, Ben Garcia shows how to build an updated and improved SNMP component in VC++ AND VB, and he briefly explains why limitations in VB make VC++ a better language for developing this type of application.

Sorry Forgot one...
CSocketMaster & CSocketPlus Web Page
CSocketMaster class is a Winsock control substitute for Visual Basic that attempts to mimic it's behavior and interface to make it easy to implement. With CSocketPlus you can accomplish the same things CSocketMaster does plus you can create sockets at runtime.

I hope someone can help me with this strange error.
I created an install with a reference to the Excel 11 Object Library. Then I installed it on a test pc that has Excel 10 (2000) and the Excel 9 Object Library installed.
Now when I try to create a new instance of the object the error 'Error in loading Dll' is returned.
I have tried referencing the Excel 9, 10, and 11 Object Libraries to no avail. However when I do late binding it works fine.
Dim xlApp as Excel.Application<br />
<br />
set xlApp = New Excel.Application ' Error here
Dim xlApp as Object<br />
<br />
set xlApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application") ' Works
Yes, I am using an old VB6 project.
Any Ideas on this will be helpful. I have tried reinstalling Excel also.
Thanks,
Steve

I did something similar with Word and VB6.
If you want to early bind it, you have to bind to the earliest version possible i.e., Excel 9 Object.
Don't forget to copy and register the Excel 9 Dll to the user's PC (I don't quite remember which file it is).

I want something like this to be displayed

If you want two database fields just combine them in you SQL query.

Greetings,
I used different approach on data entry, I hope this helps, try this:
Dim conDBConnection As ADODB.Connection
Dim sDatabaseName As String
Set conDBConnection = New ADODB.Connection
sDatabaseName = "C:\Entry.mdb"
conDBConnection.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & sDatabaseName & ";Persist Security Info=False"
conDBConnection.Execute "INSERT INTO Name (Name) VALUES ('" & txtName.Text & "')"
conDBConnection.Close
Set conDBConnection = Nothing

I want to configure an environment where i can have a single .net server accessed by multiple developement system.
All the development system should be able to access server's GAC.
All the web project as well as window based projects should run on the server.
Can someone send me technical requirements for the server and if possiable some link to the design approach for the environment.

The only way to do this is to have all your users remote controlling the one machine. I dunno what OS's allow multiple users logged in at once, but it sounds like an incredibly bad idea to me.

I know that there are so many security concerns.
But what i want is a central .net server where all the custom built assemblies as well as projects are placed so that any developer can refers to it.
Can you suggest a better approach.

I guess you could try to make al your users worok via terminal services.
Eeekk... Hate to think of the type of bopx you would need to keep them productive in that environment though.

Get all developers to put them in sourcesafe. You ARE using source control, right ?

It all sounds like a mess to me. The only reason I can think for this is that you don't trust your developers.

If it seems like a mess to you thaen can you suggest a better design for managing multiple projects distributed to multiple teams yet maintain a common development core.

Sure - you create a project that contains your reusable library code, and you put it into sourcesafe ( I said this to you several posts ago ). Every developer can contribute to it, and can build/install it on their machine.
That's a whole lot better than having multiple projects and multiple teams, all fighting for CPU cycles on a single, solitary development box.

Of course we can use VSS and add reusable code. If we have to use tens of custom build assemblies in different then we have to map each assembly to its location which can be different system and the network policy will play a spoil sport and it's a bad idea to pick assemblies from different locations.
Instead if i want to use that code over multiple projects then i will have to refer that code from it's location so server will act as a central reserviour for that code where all the custom build assemblies will be placed and we can configure the network policy for that machine only.
And I never said that all developers will be working on the server. They will be working on their own local system. Central Server is for placing all the custom libraries and then refering then in different projects as and when required. Every one will be working on their own machine yet they can take the advantage of using custom assemblies and reduce the development time.
More over this will also act as a backup server for the custom assemblies and multiple teams can work on multiple projects at the same time without any one interfering team settings.
What do you think
|

It sounds like a mess to me. How will you deploy, if you can't even configure a machine to be able to run these components on the local, developer level ?

Why can't those assemblies be on the local machine ? I don't get it.
