bi-lin just means using linear interpolation in two dimensions.

I'm trying to find out if my mouse position is on a specific line. I've tried using the slopes of the line and of the mouse position from the starting point but this doesn't work because when you get close to the starting point and the line is almost horizontal the slopes vary greatly.

Has anyone done this sort of thing before?

I did this c. 30 years ago using Fortran, but I can't remember how we did it! and I still have the source code!

The last time I did it I cheated and use PtInRect, I assume the mouse could be X pixels away from the line? If so then just create a bounding rectange and check if the mouse position is within the rectangle or if it must be on the line just make a 1 pixel rectangle.

You will need to 'cheat' slightly the docs state "A point on the right or bottom side is considered outside the rectangle." so make the rectangle 1 pixel too big on these axis.

If the line is curved, you need to know the rate of curve. otherwise, it's basic trigonometry.

I have an MFC Winapp that runs fine on dev machine, but when I deploy to target machine (XP Pro and WinNT) the pMainFrame->LoadFrame(IDR_MAINFRAME) fails. I have a menu, icon and string associated with the resource ID IDR_MAINFRAME.

I have had a heck of a time trying to determine the difference between the dev machine besides the obvious (ie development studio).

Using IDE 2003, unmanaged project.

Any advice or help is much appreciated.

Something gets wrong and I end up with the following call stack:

Which, of course leads to those ugly access violations and terminates my application.

Question:

Is anyone of you aware of some circumstances where it could be unsafe to throw exception during processing windows messages? Maybe I throw away some window handle where the associated WindowProc still tries to send messages to that window? Or something similar? Or something completely different?

I'm really really clueless Confused | :confused:

Hi,
I need some simple text to speech code and
installed MS speech SDK5.1.
I can hardcode like: hr = pVoice->Speak(L"I am glad to speak", 0, NULL);
How can I replace "I am glad to speak" with a char* text?
What does L stand for here? probably XML staff?

L"text" -> The L implies Unicode text. (wchar)

Just remove the L and you should be fine.

NO!!!!!!

Don't use T2BSTR. First off, it will leak a BSTR as you used it. MS strongly suggests that you use CComBSTR for conversions to and from BSTR.

Also, I think the API routine uses a const WCHAR *. Thus creating a BSTR not only means you are using the wrong data type, but you are also wasting computer resources creating the BSTR.

Another thing worth mentioning with these string conversion macros, is that they are potentially dangerous in loops, as they allocate memory on the stack, and not on the heap.

That isn't true for 7.0 and greater. The conversion macros became first class objects and avoid the whole loop issue.

From my atlconv.h (atl7/vs.net 2k3):

Quick answer: Use the string conversion macros in atlconv.h:

However, there are some errors occur:
1. using the following order
#include <atlconv.h>
#include <stdafx.h>
#include <sapi.h>

it gives error C2065: 'A2W' : undeclared identifier

2. if #include <stdafx.h>
#include <sapi.h>
#include <atlconv.h>

It gives 14 errors with first one as:
d:\program files\microsoft visual studio\vc98\atl\include\atlconv.h(48) : error C2065: '_ASSERTE' : undeclared identifier.

Please check the Do not treat <'s as HTML tags checkbox and use <pre> tags so your includes show up properly.

I don't know which libraries you're using. Including atlconv.h will Just Work for MFC and ATL projects.

A problem with creating a scrollbar

OK, my problem for some of you may seem silly but I'm a rookie at Windows API.
I've written a program - a simple database (it stores student's names and their marks). All of this information is contained in Edit controls. It all works fine but when I add more students to the list some of them aren't shown. So I have to make a vertical scrollbar. But I don't have any idea how to do it. I've found some description about SCROLLINFO structure but I don't know how to use it. I've added WM_VSCROLL to my window class, but it just shows up and do nothing. I would be very grateful if someone could help me.
I'm using Dev C++ if it matters.

And some info about this program - the number of students is indicated by a global variable int a. It is increased by a function void new_student(). Each control is 30 high + 10 of space. At the top of that list there are static controls which name the columns - they're the same size as Edits...

Edit: If you know some easier way to do the scrolling (by hitting some keys or something like that) please write it too Smile | :)

Use Ctrl+Left/Right to switch messages, Ctrl+Up/Down to switch threads, Ctrl+Shift+Left/Right to switch pages.
